Hazard was praising Alonso in the Belgian media. He says it's because of his hard defensive work that he can focus more on attacking now. He calls Alonso one of the main reasons of his good performances.

I found this post on Facebook about what happened to hazard last season.

"To me it's perfectly simple, and I never bought into the criticism of Hazard.
Jose ran him into the ground when the guy needed a rest, when he wasn't tip-top physically Jose played him and played him and played him and demanded the same as he does with all his wide players, that they run backwards almost as much as forwards, or even more.
The more he played the more his body suffered the more he put in poor performances the more he lost confidence the more Jose didn't have a clue how to manage him and just kept on running him into the ground, demanding even more effort.
A player knows his body better than anyone, and a player like Hazard, who runs at players and takes them on, needs to feel comfortable physically more than anyone, he needs to have that confidence to skip past players.
There was the game at Leicester, Jose's final game, where Jose wanted Hazard to carry on, he looked disgusted on the touchline, as if the fault lay with Hazard, as if Hazard had betrayed him, this was a player that had played and played and played. Jose wouldn't take him off so Hazard forced the issue, and quite rightly in my opinion. He was carrying god knows how many knocks and he couldn't carry on, and he had tried, he had tried throughout the whole season.
Guus, a calmer and more experienced head, gave Hazard six weeks off. Look what happened, he came back a different player, scored a brilliant goal at Anfield and came on for the second-half against Tottenham with us trailing 2-0. The rest as they say is history.
People said he should have done it earlier in the season and saved Jose. I had every sympathy for Hazard and none for Jose. A player needs understanding, and I'm afraid Jose showed none whatsoever."
And looking at how Mourinho is already looking for fighters in manutd to play through injury, alienating luke shaw, this is looking more true by the day.

The video below clearly demonstrates the positional attacks Conte is drilling into his side. Watch as we attack United with 5 players. Our main striker, the 2 wide forwards, and the 2 wingbacks.
When we have the ball in the opposition's half, Matic and Kante provide the screen in midfield, both being brilliant ball circulators.
Azpilicueta and Cahill are wide-centrebacks, slotting into the positions vacated by our two wing backs. Luiz is the sweeper. 2 of those 3 are extremely fast by centre-back standards, and Cahill is not slow either. A stark contrast to slowpoke days of Terry and Ivanovic. Teams are struggling to get in behind our pacy centre-backs now.
Our wingbacks are as wide and advanced as possible occupying the opposition fullbacks and Hazard and Pedro are narrow, creating an overload right through the middle. Azpilicueta sometimes even bombs forward, creating an additional overload on the right side, with Moses.
Teams are seriously struggling to deal with the overload here, especially with Eden in constant motion. In the past, they could just simply clog the centre, knowing full well that neither Ivanovic or Azpilicueta could truly hurt them down the side. Now, they won't dare try that with Moses and Alonso tearing down the wings, threatening all sorts of unpleasantries.
There's also this nice trianglulation I've noticed, (not in this clip necessarily) between Kante, Azpilicueta and Moses. The interchange between them is beautiful.
What's sad and funny to see is Jose being more negative than ever. Playing a 6-3-1 with Lingaard and Rashford as auxillary fullbacks. United completely hemmed in their own half,  in the words of Pellegrino, playing like a small club. The difference couldn't be more stark.

Just thought, Conte is actually covering the whole lineups weaknesses with this formation.
Luiz can now go on his runs without consequence knowing there is cover.
Cahill as limited as he is can perform in the right system and players protecting him, he's got that now.
Azpilicueta doesn't now play in a position were he has a lot responsibility going forward, he can solely focus on defense.
Alonso is an average left back, but with his endless stamina at wing back can get up and down and effectively act like two players.
Moses, average winger, but now in a position were athleticism and pace are a kote important aspect than decision making, which he is average at best at.
Kante can now get up and down like he did with Leicester, instead of holding.
Matic doesn't have to babysit Cesc anymore.
Pedro plays closer to goal and we see more of the movements and combinations we did at Barca, he no longer has to pick the balup deep and make things happen.
Costa, playing with Haz and Pedro close to him, less isolated, he doesn't need to try and dribble past players anymore instead has passing options.
Best till last Eden, more free role not confined to the left, due to Alonso covering the area of two players he doesn't have to defend as much anymore and its showing.
He's literally playing to the whole current lineups strength.

My lady, you have understood everything there is to understand to fully appreciate the joy of supporting Eden Hazard.
Although he has always been a wonderful prospect, has known glory and fan expectations (more than fulfilled) since the age of 18, has been labellised best belgian player ever, has known fame, recognition, and money... Eden Hazard has always been loyal to who he is, as a human being, not as a football star. Friendly, humble, joyful... That's why he will never reach Messi or Ronaldo's goals stats level imo, he doesn't have "that" mentality, that ego. You have to want to crush others to reach their level, and Eden is incapable of that. That's why I will always respect him more than Ronaldo and Messi.
Also his family is everything for him ; his close family more than everything of course, then his team (great teammate to have, that goes without saying...), but I really think he has a larger definition of "family" of which his fans are a large part.
With his fans he has always been great. Accessible, joyful, and most of all very respectful. He left our club the best way possible, doing everything he could to help the club perfectly knowing the whole season that he wouldn't be there for the next. Like a true professional. During his transfer saga, which lasted a whole freaking year, media pushed him to go to PSG. Every post-match itw, every itw in fact was 80% about future transfer, 20% about his present football, present club. He repeatedly said that he would not go to PSG because in France his club was Lille. And he kept his promise despite all the media pressure and the huge wages that PSG offered.
Even today, when he has an interview with a french media, the PSG comes up. Here is what he said to La Voix du Nord, two weeks ago : "If I come back to France, it will be Lille ! It is my club in Ligue 1, I can't see myself playing for another one. Coming back to Lille, I don't know if it will be possible, but in football you never know."
And contrary to a certain Lampard, we Lille fans know we can blindly trust him, we will not be disappointed. If he says that he won't play for PSG, we know he will keep his promise. As for playing back in Lille's jersey, I can't see that happening before he's 34 but I will be so happy if it happens !!
Also, it's amazing how he has never done anything wrong in his carreer. The two main "scandals" in his professional life is eating a burger and kicking a ball under a ballboy, without touching him, say it all
There are many things that disgust me in modern football. Eden Hazard is one the main things that keep me attached to this sport.

The whole comparison to Cristiano and Messi needs to stop though. He's not as outrageously talented as Messi, of course he's quite the talent himself, neither does he possess CR's ridiculous goal-sense. Not only did they achieve a lot more at Hazard's age, they went on to improve to a level people didn't think was possible (on a consistent basis). And that doesn't just go for Hazard but any new/hot talent. To be compared to them, you actually have to prove it by playing at that level for years like they have.
Completely disagree with the notion on him not being among Chelsea's best players this season. Are you kidding me? Everybody is allowed to have they're opinion, definitely. But if I say Kroos and Modric have been a lot better than Ronaldo this season, I don't sound right. I mean, be serious.
My memory with these kind of things is not the best, but in 22 starts, Hazard has had like what.. 3, maybe 4 bad games? 8-10 great games and 7-9 good games. He's been fantastic this season. Add a bunch of goals and assists to his game right now, and he's a top 5 player. Aguero is the only player above him in the league this season imo. You could argue for Cesc and Matic, or even Alexis. But Hazard has been the better player for me, Alexis just stands out more because of his underperforming team mates. He's been one of the better performers in the group stages of the CL as well.
Could he score more goals? Sure, and I still expect him to score around 15 goals from open play this season. But 9 goals in 22 starts is anything but a poor return. More assists from Eden? Definitely. This is a area he's been surprisingly ineffective in. A player of his calibre and his style of play should be providing more assists. But even though goals and assists are important, they don't define the quality of the performances. I'm convinced the likes Nedved and Figo would not receive half the praise they used to get by the majority of today.
The great thing about Hazard is how there's still plenty of room for improvement and I'm convinced he'll continue to raise his game. Looking at his time at Chelsea, you can see how he keeps progressing with every passing season. Becoming a superstar at this age is a rarity. Ibrahimovic, Rooney, Suarez, Robben, Ribery, Xavi, Iniesta, David Silva, Yaya Toure, Tevez, Schweinsteiger, Fabregas, Modric... you look at that list of players, which player was at Hazard's level at 23? Fabregas is probably the only one (you could argue for Iniesta and Rooney). That's amazing. And then think about how much they improved after 23. Eden can become some player.
It's time for a big moment though. Like a memorable performance in the quarter/semi finals of the CL. That's the one thing he lacks right now.

That is the most important thing, his mentality. I mean, the kid has it all already, physically, technically, tactically. His mind just has to be set on the right mode at the particular moment of the game, and throughout its 90 minutes.
Him putting goals or not is really not the question as there are plenty other ways to weigh on a game, and when he's set on the right mode he will weigh on the game, and highly increase probabilities to win no matter he's scoring or not. And that's what's happening. You think Chelsea keeping on winning and Costa keeping on scoring is due to who ?

Eden's last few months average game :
He's gonna be constantly marked by two opponents, often requiring the attention of one other, creating space for his partners.
He's gonna provoke 6 corner kicks, be fouled 10 times most of them in dangerous areas... Hell maybe a penalty created out of anywhere also.
He's gonna succeed 10 times a dribble, creating space and confusion among the opponents' defense.
He's gonna endorse alternatively the roles of a winger and a playmaker, both with success, making him one of the most influential tempo maker of the team.
He's gonna use his masterous skills at link-up play or conservation of the ball in order to keep the ball in dangerous areas and create actions when Chelsea is laying siege while the opponents are parking the bus ('cause they can't get the ball of the f** feet of that damn belgian).
He's gonna succeed 3 key passes.
He's gonna track back a lot and help building Chelsea's game from very low in the pitch.
And most important, Chelsea is gonna win.
So yeah let's blame the guy for not being decisive enough !

What a player he is becoming, I wish he had scored his chances against United and Maribor to mark off his amazing form recently. What I am really happy about is that he is getting in those areas, not only cutting through the left flank like last season but coming in from left, right or middle of the park and being right on the edge of the 18 yard box. These are almost the areas where Messi is playing, (whereas Ronaldo plays almost like a centre forward so I'm not going to compare Hazard to him), but my point is that these are the areas where you can score from and just take a look at Messi's goals yesterday, Hazard should have scored two for us as well. And this is what is still dividing the Belgian from the likes of Messi and Ronaldo, because his overall form is undoubtedly up there. He could and should score more goals and he needs to work on that aspect of the game if he really wants to fulfill his ambitions of which he likes to discuss in his interviews.
The one big difference from which Eden is suffering is the fact that the team doesn't quite play on him like Barcelona and Real play for Messi and Ronaldo respectively. I believe that will change with time and we can see slight signs of this. Yesterday everyone were looking for Hazard and he was all over the pitch.
Long story short - Hazard is becoming a more mature player IMO, a hungrier professional and he can and should score more. Time will tell if he can get up there with the best but I personally, with my optimistic type of nature, believe he can. He is already a world class and our best player (something many of us can agree about), not an easy achievement to accomplish when you are playing in a star packed team like ours. A goal vs. Liverpool on Saturday and I will shut up

Haha, I remember when we first signed him and after a few months in I said that he really needs to work on his finishing and the '20 goals in Ligue 1 suggests different' talk came up. Glad people are starting to see that now it is something he has to explicitly work on.
3 main things Eden needs to continue to work on and he'll legitimately move up a level and be universally considered as one of the best players out there (or best in the BPL at least):
Finishing Killer instinct Off the ball movement The latter two are developing along nicely - no longer does Hazard sit around and wait for things to happen, he actually is finally using his ability to force results which is good to see. Off the ball movement has improved as well; even though he still has some work to do. His finishing however has actually seemed to regress. It's weird. He has the technique and everything, he knows how to dispatch a ball into the bottom corner, top corner, volleys etc. but it seems to be a confidence thing/mental block whenever he does seem to get in front of goal.
If Eden works on those three points and gets them to a high level (as said before the latter two are definitely evidently improving)... Boy are we in for a treat.
