Just want to add something about "why do you think Guardiola would magically work?" - He'd have the full trust of Abramovich. Di Matteo doesn't. Guardiola would choose the transfers. He would choose the tactics. He would choose so much more than RDM is allowed.

I've always said he isn't, and the main reason people defend him so much is due to sentiment (him being a past player of ours). If it was Paul Lambert managing us and everything was going exactly the same as they are now, would people be defending him so much? Probably not.

Not too impressed with him today so far. He's looking kind of like Cisse is at Newcastle United in his current form.

He's underrated and overrated by loads of people, but I think Leighton Baines would be a good option to buy if Cole leaves. Everton could use some extra cash, we could use a free-kick specialist(?), and I've liked having some English blood in our back line. I don't want to lose that whenever Terry can't play. Failing that, we could always go for the best left-back in La Liga - Filipe Luis of Atletico Madrid. If he played for Barcelona or Real Madrid he'd be widely hailed as one of the best left-backs in world football, no doubt. Finally, the only other very good and realistic all-rounded left-back I can think of is Nacho Monreal. Obviously there will be loads of fantastic gems in all the 'smaller' leagues who I don't know exist, but from the top leagues, I'm sure any one of these players mentioned would do the job well here.

From what I've seen, he'd be good enough for any club, but he'd need a very strong manager to mold him. He actually reminds me of a young Henry. I know that's a huge comparison to make, but he really does. He's just not blessed with the same finesse or exquisite technique.

As far as being a 'legend' goes, it would be sad to see him go. As for as being strictly a footballer goes, we'd be a better team without him. He simply doesn't play too well anymore and he's on astronomical wages when you take into consideration what he offers us these days on the pitch. Imagine the amount of top players we could bring in and spread Lamps' wages amongst (in theory). Sad but true.

I know this may sound ignorant from me considering the club has professional scouts etc. who are supposed to know what they're doing, but I'm positive that if he wasn't South American, we would have absolutely zero interest in him. I guess the club just feel like adding some potential future squad players or something especially considering the deal we got with Deco, but he really isn't a very good player from what I've seen and I don't see the potential.

Let's compare the form of the strikers who'll be lining up for each time. Oh. Actually let's not. It's depressing.
