  1. the sampling size here is a bit small to say the least? are we going to sign every manager who wins a game against us? 2 games? 3 does the trick then That sounds like a fantastic incentive to all aspiring managers! Win 3 matches against Chelsea and you will become a new millionaire Chelsea manager! 😃
  2. fair enough, so the clear step missing here is the mid-size club. And Chelsea was also the second big club for Tuchel. It usually makes a huge difference in the interaction with players as alluded so by others here. Anyway, it's done deal, so now just hope the gamble works to some degree.
  3. Sorry I don't think their resumes are comparable 2015–2017 Borussia Dortmund 2018–2020 Paris Saint-Germain 2021–2022 Chelsea
  4. Tuchel immediately saw the obvious: that this squad couldn't play as equals against the other big clubs esp in CL. So, he made the team "run like dogs" (not only Werner) so to be able to match up with the top sides who have more quality than us, esp up front. It's very difficult to keep running rich-entitled footballers into the ground. They eventually grow to dislike the person demanding sacrifices, the man in charge. This is not much different from what happened with Mourinho, for ex. I guess that is why Pep and Klopp are the top managers out there -- they keep players happy and engaged and still demand sacrifices. Unfortunately, I agree with Tuchel in that that's the only way this team could have won. Now, with the loss of key players and questionable replacements, I don't think this team can be competitive at all.... top 4 is the only "silverware" that is attainable -- maybe a cup? The new manager is a nobody... it used to take some level of success for managers to get a shot at a big club. That does not mean he will fail, but does make it a huge gamble.
  5. That's the crux of the matter right there and a downgrade any way you look at it.
  6. Ruthlessness is when we want to make harsh stupid decisions sound cool and edgy. Still makes no sense to upend work over and over again… sorry if you don’t see that then you don’t really know how “football” is made. the most successful clubs in the world simply do not roll that way. And that’s for a very good reason.
  7. This was a good one in the tuchel sacking article on bbc fuzzball: “I know Aubamayang is a disruptive influence, but that was quick!” good job Auba! 👏
  8. It's a win. Players will show everybody that "they were not the problem" for a couple/few games then return to their norm, which is not going to be good enough this season, I'm afraid.
  9. Not entirely true is it? the threshold at Chelsea seems to be unique amongst the big clubs in the PL. Liverpool understood Klopp when he lost VVD for a season and ended up chasing nothing. Reckon what happen at Chelsea was far worse than that considering it *also* included losing a key player.
  10. Hmm wasn't this about Tuchel not getting the results? Now we have many folks saying we will get a coach to build? Don't we have an all star team? If we do, then there is no need to build. We need a tactical expert and motivator to get results. If we don't, which I'm pretty sure of, this is going to be a long term deal and good results won't come right away. I'm with @Henrique -- it's just a billionaire showing off.
  11. That's far more plausible. 👍 Completely agree and it dangerously empowers players further.... good luck to the next manager. Very predictable due to the many ongoing things, including key players singing pre-contracts. Once again, things don't happen in a vacuum nor was it all down to the manager (who was more like a coach). Does anyone believe Rudiger was giving his 100% after signing a pre-contract with Madrid? I don't.
  12. Sure, but so now we decided to ignore everything that happened regarding the sale, half+ of the staff leaving, and the very late numerous signings in the window? And pretend it was all down to the manager, who has been more of a coach than manager from day one? Sorry, don't buy that.
  13. Confidence comes from good fitness and results. It's difficult to feel confident when you lose most 50/50s and the opposition is fitter. The team did not work hard enough and isn't prepared well enough and I have a good idea about the reasons for that. Sacking Tuchel was ridiculous to me.... is Pep or Klopp avail by chance?
  14. I really like Mount as a player -- prob my sec fav after Kante -- but he's no good unless he's 100% fit and driving the team forward. If he wants to play at this level he needs to be a CR9 in terms of dedication and fitness... that's the price. His slow start is expected, and even acceptable, from different type of players, not him.
  15. indeed. Players are a very united group who talk among themselves more than we think they do. A couple/few unhappy players will have an effect in the group. Sometimes the solution for that is actually competition, so that players trying to get minutes will give that extra 10% which can be contagious. And when I say 110%, I don't mean in games only but at practice too: that's where a manager have to spot when a player is not really engaged, so I agree that Tuchel can help himself there.
  16. Dude! it's easier to blame the manager ("eh sempre of tecnico!") 😉 We always love our players even when they suck. Seriously tho, of course it's weaker 🙂 and the results will corroborate that with or without Tuchel -- he can't fix this shit. @Blue ArmourTo your (and Sp Juan's) point, it does not take a full rebellion at this level: all it takes is a couple of players not giving that 100% and spaces will be found by the opposition. This is what players themself say: they have a lot of power. Plus, I hope folks are noticing that, but the PL is getting tougher by the minute and there are very few really small clubs left. Most mid table clubs have internationals playing for them. Except crystal palace and fucking saha -- they both suck.
  17. that's not what I said. I said it's down to a lot of things, not only the manager. That's why I disagree with the notion, "sack the manager because he was backed and could not build an elite side!" What we see on the pitch is always the result of many weeks' time. If that work happened late, poorly, or not at all, we will see that reflected on the pitch -- just as we do today. My point remains, the lack of proper work can be down to a number of reasons, and I do see evidence of those reasons being at play. While the manager isn't blameless, as he is part of the process, he's far from being the only responsible.
  18. That's hardly Tuchel's fault is it? He may ask for player X, but that player will always choose Madrid, City, or PSG. So, and then this season we did business, late for a number of reasons, and I don't think he got player Y either. That's exactly why IMO marquee signings aren't the answer for us. We need to be a hard team to beat with 11 players involved at all times. Play with stronger opposition as equals and we will lose more often than not. While Haaland was merely an example of the difficulties of the club to compete at this level, Jesus was a more down to earth and still a far better option than Abu IMO.
  19. I'm not saying he's blameless, but preparing a team is not only about the manager. Fitness is usually extremely important esp early season where the smaller clubs will be super fit pre-injuries. That list has one elite player: sterling. It was fairly lackluster IMO.
  20. top targets *are* snatched up early on. I thought was was an accepted fact: more potential targets will be available early on. I'm sure Tuchel said no to Haaland first, then no to Jesus second, and then chose Abu in the last day of the transfer window, because you know it makes total sense.
  21. Yes, because I don't have that information -- whether he's been backed or not. The mere *timing* of the deals tells me he wasn't. The top targets were snatched up early on.
  22. I agree with everything regarding the players, but I’m not sure how much this is down to tuchel himself. it’s difficult to know whether they were his first or second choices, or what the club told him was possible. plus there is the timing as most deals took place way too late and that affects the manager (not to mention fitness) ability to prep the squad. speaking of fitness, all teams we play against look fitter and I don’t think that’s down to the manager.
  23. my prediction: Tuchel out and a known clown (of your choice) in to make everyone here happy. Will change nothing of course, but changing managers is always popular.
  24. That has been my point all along. More experience maybe, but Chalobah looked fitter and far more mobile. Koulibally looks heavy to me still.... I hope he's still regaining fitness tho. I've been very worried about our transfer window moves and so far it is looking worse than I feared.
  25. It’s early season. Manager and coaches are selecting who are best fit to play based on that they see in training. Some may even be carrying an extra stone or two. Some of the new signings still don’t look the part, but I will refrain from passing judgement until they have a chance to get going as we did business fairly late in the window and that also affects the whole team… not to mention the manager.
