For a left back we've been heavily linked with Luke Shaw, we do have a couple of left backs on loan like Bertrand(who Jose didn't seem to rate) and Patrick van Aanholt(who has been one of the best player for Vitesse) who could serve as back ups or compete with Shaw if we sign him.

Juan Mata made 135 appearances for Chelsea, only 19 of his appearances were as a sub; but he did come off in 66 matches. He had played a total of 7500 minutes for Chelsea in the EPL/CL which is about 83 full matches which pretty respectable considering the position he is playing in. He was involved in a goal every 125 minutes he was on the field with us in the CL/EPL by either scoring or assisting.

Realistically he is probably in the top 5 EPL Strikers for 2013 and seems to have continued his terrific form after coming back from his injury. Some of the skills he pulled off in the Everton match are truly exceptional: If keeps this form up for another year he would definitely be on equal footing with the likes of Kun; Suarez; Cavani etc I think the only thing they are head and shoulders above him is consistency over several years. Never really doubted his ability and he is living up to what I expected from him when he was still a Man City youth.

The two goals I've seen have been brilliant, obviously he needs to get a loan in a Prem team next season and replicate these type of finishes in the EPL for a few years if he wants to make it into our squad.

He got the start today and continued scoring. A few more seasons on loan we might sell him to some EPL club

Mata helped us on our way winning the biggest Trophy in Club Football that had eluded us a long time. He was integral in our win over Liverpool in the FA Cup providing one of the assists. Both assists in the Final against Benfica in the Europa League last season. He was voted as Player of the Season twice in a row and it was deserved. He has given this club plenty - he is a World Class player; a manager might feel that he needs to prove himself but that doesn't mean he needs to prove himself to the fans. It's going to be painful to see him in a red kit, but he remains a very likeable player who I will miss and not put down just because things didn't work out for him here. Do I think it would have been better for us as a club to keep him until we get someone outside of the EPL to sign him - surely. The club didn't feel the same way and sold him to United. Mata you're a Legend - I feel sad that you could not remain here but I won't hold it against you
