And that's our problem. We start so well against the "good" teams and we're slow out of the blocks against the poorer sides as we assume we're going to win easily. Doesn't work like that.
Wow. Very poor. Very poor indeed. That being said, if we don't pick up 3 points today we don't deserve to win anything this season. Regardless of how well they've played under Tony Pulis, Palace are a play offs-level Championship side at best. If Pulis keeps them up, he deserves to be named manager of the season. Their squad now is worse than it was last year when they were a second division side.
This is the sort of game you need pace and invention, so Salah and Schurrle either side of King Eden would be my choice. But we all know Jose will go for Oscar and Willian this week.
That's another excellent point. Luiz is almost too good a footballer not to play - and if he's in the midfield, at least there's the chance the team can recover from a misjudgement.
Starting to look like a bit of a player now, isn't he? Inconsistency is his biggest issue, but as Mourinho has said, he was always going to need a lot of time to adjust to the demands the manager is making of him. Well done Andre, well done.
Love love love love LOVE this guy in the pivot next to Matic. Fuck off do we need to spend £35 million on Witsel or some other "dynamic" box to box midfielder. This guy is class there. A far better option than Ramires (who is too inconsistent) and Lampard (who sadly is now too old to play consistently and/or on a regular basis).
Two assists from a midfield destroyer? Maybe his all-round competence is better than we (certainly I) give him credit for. He definitely plays better with Luiz next to him though. He doesn't have to be so defensively responsible, because unlike Ramires or Lampard, Luiz has the intelligence and the speed to recover from a forward run.
A fair point to make - but I'd counter that by saying we're more compact defensively with him in the team. But then again, as much as we like to see our forwards track back, they're there to contribute in an offensive sense aren't they? I suppose its based on what you want to see from your attackers - goals and glory, or guts and grit.
