Its a fair point but also at the same time, the same with more or less every player regardless of age. If a manaher trusts a player theyll use them. Prime examples Callum and Ruben here although they are actual academy graduates where as Gomez was bought from Charlton aged 18 after playing a full season there. For instance: Wan Bissaka arguably the stand out RB in the league this year only made regular appearances due to injuries last season. Raheen Sterling at Liverpool again injuries and lack of recruitment in that area meant Rodgers had to throw him in and deservedly so based on how his careers panned out. Harry Kane only played regularly at Spurs cause Soldado was shite and injured. Fair enough as I aluded to beforehand those guys have still improved under Klopp but it is the same with most of their team. PL top teams playing young players is such a rare sight, funnily enough United (Rashford, McTominay, Lingard, Pogba - moved of yes as Fergie didnt trust him but technically still counts 😂) and ourselves (Ruben, Callum and Andreas) used more actual academy players who had been there since under 18 than Liverpool and City although they finished miles ahead of us. This shows again that the solution isnt always playing youth, which many on here maybe think will make a difference in our league standings. Sometimes having 3 or 4 top top ready made players can make a huge difference. For me the PL is a poor enivornment for young homegrown players to play regularly though at most clubs, far too easy for teams to buy ready made or young players with 100-150 games experience than play their own youngsters. Scottish league might get slagges but I watch it very regularly and the likes of Lewis Ferguson, Jake Hastie, David Turnbull, Greg Taylor, Karakamo Dembele (be a lot more minutes for him next season after his debut last weekend), Michael Johnstone (again hasnt played a lot but was brilliant last weekend)... while they may have had various amounts of apperances and may never play at a top PL or even mid table PL level will all be the next wave of Scotland internationals playing in the top division of their nation. Sancho going to Germany was merely the first in a long list of youngsters who at these huge clubs will move if they value developing and playing regularly over playing 10 times a season in dead rubber cup games. Especially when the likes of Leipzig, Dortmund, Schalke, Hoffenheim in Germany are actively looking in England.

Again though Gomez was bought. Alexander Arnold is the only player through the Liverpool academy that Klopp has actually promoted. Likes of Kent and Wilson are out on loan and liable to be sold. Theres no doubting Klopp has developed players but again the same could be said of Pep but other than Foden they weren't academy players. Youth in the PL is fucked at most levels.

Walker Peters is never going to play regularly for Spurs and has had numerous chances to move, also he is 22 year olds and has only played 19 times for Spurs since 2015. Its same scenario as Bale not wanting to leave. Different reasons maybe but still sit and take the money at a top club or go elsewhere.
-
Tbf for the 17m a year when he clearly doesnt want to leave, unless Real Madrid dont register him which I severely doubt they would do to someone who can offer quality, its hardly bizarre. I mean even then look at Gary and Drinkwater here knew they wouldnt play but were happy to sit and collect their 100 or 120k a week or whatever despite not playing or being conaidered by their managers as important. Or look at other players of various levels at other clubs, the guy Kyle Walker-Peters at Spurs signed a new deal on decent wages for a 22 year old who plays maybe 10 times a season... its modern day football, nothing is suprising anymore. Clubs want players sign them up on huge deals offering huge sums of money all the time only for a manager to decide to chuck them. Look at Martial and Luke Shaw at United, Jose wanted to bin them and they eventually outlasted him. Theres every chance Bale outlasts Zidane at Real as he has a long contract on huge money.

Very few managers resign where we are concerned. I'm expecting him to stay on, but I can see next season being a horror as things stand (Hazard off, transfer ban, extension of squad players, etc). I wouldnt be surprised if 1) Juve wanted Sarri and 2) if Sarri takes the Juventus job. Plus, would anybody blame him? A large majority of our fans seem to have a huge dislike for him and regardless of what he thinks, at board level there must be some sort of realisation that there is a huge disconnection and dislike from a percentage of the fans. I think again, like when Conte was here, we would be the only club to get rid of 2 managers and see them potentially have the opportunity to walk into arguably better jobs - although nothing materialised with Conte regarding Real as he turned them down but still. Even then, footballing wise, Juventus are in a lot better structural shape than we are, would be very ideal working conditions for most managers to work there, proper footballing men running the show, great recruitment and the manager actually gets a chance to implement his way of working. Allegri was a unpopular choice to replace Conte all those years ago but when the season started Juve fans rallied behind him and he leaves now having been inducted into the Italian football hall of fame largely based on his achievements there, winning 5 leagues in a row and countless cup trophies. Good to see another huge summer for the club potentially going to be clouded with uncertainty regarding players and now the manager. Again......
-
What was the point in hiring Sarri in the first place then? May as well have given Lampard the job last summer. Seriously this club is run by fucking idiots.
-
Selling Kante? Who will be our only world class player when Eden leaves? You all cannot be serious.
-
If Juventus want him and we let him go, jesus christ. I do not see us getting any top managers in unfortunately. For me theres no way we will get Allegri, no way he leaves Juventus and goes fuck it I will go to a club with so much uncertainty. He will have a better move in his mind surely if hes leaving Juventus.
-
That is rather less than a complete denial. SPOX’s editor-in-chief, Martin Volkmar, told Bild, “We stand by our story.” snip Van Bommel would be an interesting move for them but he would be in the same sort of category as Niko Kovac, hugely inexperienced at a top top European club as a manager. Allegri being available for nothing, having won leagues and cups with AC Milan and Juventus, two clubs with the sort of history and stature similar to Bayerns as well as having a respectful record in the CL, think a club as well run and organised as them would be daft to not consider him. Think Bayern would consider him more than Barca but you never know, Valverde was a bit of a less high profile appointment and Bilbao didnt exactly play incredibly similar to how Barca did so who knows.
-
Allegri will probably be considered for Barca and Bayern, who are both going to change their managers apparently even though both of them have won the league.
-
Talking of corners, our corners have been fucking shite for about the last 3 seasons. Hazard and Willian need to stop taking them.
-
Regardless to be a top team who wants to compete in multiple competitions we need to improve the squad, look at City had very good CBs already went and signed Laporte. Had Sterling, Sane, Silva already went and signed Mahrez. Thats what we used to be like, had Lampard, Mikel, Makalele, Essien already and then signed the likes of Ballack and Deco. Dont think we can guarantee the likes of CHO and RLC anything like okay you will play every week. Same with Andreas. If we signed a top level winger, top level midfielder and top level centre back it would not only improve the first 11 but the squad because we would shift some of the crap out.
-
I think youll be surprised how often he will play. He offers a slightly more physical approach than Benzema. Both are very rounded but Benzema for all his positives struggles with consistency. Suarez is still very capable of magic on his day and probably be first choice at Barca undoubtedly where as Jovic has more chance to get in ahead of Benzema 110%. Be harder to displace Suarez than Benzema.
-
Those 4 are wingers though. Jovic is a 9. Benzema is 30 odd, he needs a longterm replacement. Real wont care because they need to improve and in typical fashion they throw money at 5-10 players.
-
Would definitely take any of the 3 in all fairness. Dybala is still an absolutely incredible player, hasnt worked this season but I still think he has got another level or two to go to.
-
What a disaster. Fair enough the game was for a good cause but you need to prioritize things as a club. Having your best players fit when you have a cup final or playing a meaningless friendly (although it was for a good cause raised a lot of cash)....
-
He will get plenty time, Real are wanting to offload Mariano and Benzema needs real competition, has done since they sold off Higuain to Napoli years ago. Diaz and Rodrygo are wingers.
-
Apparently the rumours are he will go to Spain. So Barca or Real probably
-
Never had a chance. Was obvious Barca and Real would go for him. Whos gonna turn them down for us? Realisitically?
-
Lampard in? For how long 1 season when he cant get a decent finish with the shite that the board has accumulated in the last however many transfer windows? When will people see regardless of manager, a squad containing the likes of Morata, Bakayoko, Willian, Alonso, Luiz, Giroud, Drinkwater, Moses, Zappacosta, Barkley, Kovacic (Ive included who may or may not be here due to transfer ban and a change of coach could give them another chance so to speak)... simply arent that good to compete against the likes of City and Liverpool at the top end of the table which is where the club undoubtedly wants to be. If Sarri goes, we need a top top manager to come in and stop the rot. Not someone whos only managed one season (please nobody state Pep Guardiola never had more than one season before he was at Barca the guy is up there with Sir Alex as arguably the best managaer in history and probably the defining one in modern history). It would be even more riskier than Sarri, Di Matteo, Villas-Boas or whoever. The club needs to be sorted behind the scenes, throwing a guy with one seasons experience into the job, into a transfer banned team that either needs new signings or massive coaching improvements would be madness. I think people are being too sentimental to think Lampard is one, ready for the job and two, the right man for it. There is maybe a huge appeal maybe because he is playing loanee players from us in Tomori and Mount but again, Derby is Derby, in the championship.... and even then if were ever going to appoint a manager from the championship, Marcelo Bielsa is surely the only realistic one? Leeds would never let it happen but imagine what he could do with this group of players, even if they arent all great. His coaching at Leeds the difference is day and night to how theyve been in previous seasons. Fair enough Derby might win yet and go up which for Frank would be a good start for his managerial career but it doesnt mean he's ready in any capacity for us.
-
True but Madrid were shocking before Zizou came back in. Regarding Modric, he isnt a player who hugely relies on physical qualities either and hasnt showed any huge signs of slowing down so I think in a team where theres a Casemiro he will be fine. Maybe he will see his minutes reduced or his role changed like Xavi and Iniesta had at Barca too. If they sell Bale theyll definitely be going for another big attacker then as well, Mbappe perhaps? Would be a difficult move but theres no doubt they can pull it off. If they sell a few players off, like rumoured (Bale, Cellabos, Mariano, Llorente, Vazquez) on top of say 250 or 300m or whatever they will likely splash, they wont be overly fussed about FFP.
-
Regardless if some of those players leave Real, they will buy big replacements. Especially after the poor season they had after selling Ronaldo and not reinforcing properly. Hazard and Militao are only the first signings and I honestly wouldnt be surprised if they went to push the boat out for Mbappe as well although he would cost probably 300m and or possibly Pogba (strange move unless they can get him really consistent). And even the guys who are wrong side of 30s or near enough, Modric, Benzema, Bale, Ramos, Marcelo all those guys are top top players and much better than what we have here. They still have plenty to contribute in some capacity. Again though, theres plenty life in the likes of Modric, Kroos and even Bale if they keep them fit (or dont get rid of them). Benzema is very inconsistent but in terms of a link up striker he is very good and Eden will thrive playing in tandem with him. They will be a lot better next season, they are undoubtedly gonna drop some serious cash this summer. Eden will be more productive I would imagine but hes never gonna score 30 goals a season regardless which is what they need . They arent in good shape this season but they are still a better team than we are in terms of the quality they have in their squad and will probably sign much much better quality players than we will in the summer.
-
They are buying promising & potential trouble if rumours are to be believe. Going from Pedro & Willian to Lucas & Asensio isn't exactly a notable step up. Asensio, Bale, Isco, Benzema, Modric, Kroos, Casemiro, Ramos, Varane, Carjaval.... Lucas isnt a bad player either hes probably got better end product than Willian. The step up in players around him will be huge. Regardless.
-
Think Marca were reporting it and four four two mentioned it. Maybe not in the one deal but think the idea is Kova being sold to us for however much would ultimately lower Edens price by a bit. Seen something that we were demanding 140m€ and Real want to pay just over 100m.
-
Kovacic will be in the Hazard deal. Definitely. Higuain has disappointed but there has been times where hes shown his experience, sort of movement which youd expect for someone whos had the career hes had but hes been very very shite at holding the ball up at times and has not looked matchfit in most games for us. He also hasnt been ruthless enough with some chances. Can think of an amount of chances he would of scored prior in his career. I dont know where we go from here regarding a CF though, with the ban in place and even Giroud possibly leaving... its slim pickings from what we have on the books so I would imagine if the club has got the chance to get Higuain back again (rumours theres a season loan extention clause or buy out option but no idea what the ban will do in regards to that but surely the club expected it and put some sort of work around in) they will probably go for it. Unless Morata comes back maybe? Unfortunately or fortunately however that works out. I do think if he shed a bit of weight it would make a difference but hes at an age now where maybe hes not at his best but even if he were able to score between 12-17 goals a season, it would make a difference and I dont think he has forgotten how to score but his physical condition since arriving has been poor. I must admit I expected him to be in slightly better shape. Hes never been rapid but an extra yard of pace would make a massive difference. I dont think Tammy will be anything other than a back up here either. Thats if he even comes back and doesnt go back on loan. It will be a strange summer if the ban stays in place. Mount has been mentioned and talks of him getting a visa for our pre season trip to Japan I think it is. Reece James also back after his season at Wigan so theres 2 who could be fixtures of the 25 man squad next year. Tammy maybe?
