I think Hummels will be a terrible partner for Luiz. They are very similar, he's basically a worse David Luiz. I think he needs a partner who is physical and aerially dominant like JT. Someone who has the intelligence to cover for him while he anticipates passes and breaks up plays.
-
Oops, my bad. Still he's younger than Frank and Ash
-
I'd like to see Kevin as well, possibly in the number 10 role which he performed brilliantly well in during preseason. Give Oscar who flew halfway across the globe a rest. Mata/Willian on the right and Schurrle on the left.
-
I think that we'll likely move Frank and Ashley on, perhaps Cech given the Courtois situation, but JT is not that old, he's still 31 and if Frank was given an extension last season despite the rumors of Roman not being happy with him, I think JT will get a one year extension this season.
-
Yeah, of course we can't go into next season with only Luiz Cahill and Kalas. But I'm assuming we renew JT's contract as he's been one of our best players along side Oscar so far.

That is an unfortunately frequent misconception. There aren't two groups of players in a team one responsible for attack and the other for defense. When you have a proper system, you attack as a team and, perhaps more importantly, you defend as a team. Meaning every single one of the eleven players has a defensive duty. That's how you get the most out of your team. As for building a team around him, I think it is best that we build a team on a footballing philosophy rather than around a player. What happens if he gets a long-term injury or hands in a transfer request? A philosophy lasts for years and provides stability and consistency regardless of who comes and goes.
-
I think Ba starts for this one because of his good performance against Norwich and because he didn't have international duty and would be the freshers and also because, with Torres out, Jose would want to save eto'o for Schalke.
-
Well, not for me. Whenever I see him at fullback, I always see a CB playing out of position. A lot of positional mistakes and can't close down a cross for his life. And DD was a fullback when he was a teen while Iva made the "switch" when he was something like 24 and since then has never played exclusively at RB but still makes appearances at CB like last season when he played mostly at CB and only played at RB when we needed to rest Azpi. As for Henry, even when playing at ST, he's at his best when he drifts wide to receive the ball then cuts inside and runs at defenders. He never played as a conventional number 9.
-
Translation: Is there a problem for you at Chelsea?"No. It is the press who create a problem (laughs)." It's because we are worried for you, Kevin."That's not necessary. You're panicking for nothing. I have not made any comments about the club."
-
Jose, play a false 9? Not gonna happen! And before someone mentions the united match, No, he did not play a false 9, he just played Schurrle in the striker role.
-
Except Iva is originally a CB and was later moved to right back. Last season Luiz-Iva was our best CB pairing.
-
Yeah he was walking again, but when he went down he looked in a lot of pain and was stretchered off on that little car thing. In retrospective I think, he was just wasting time because his teamw as minutes away from getting the draw.
-
And due to the fact that last year we had a record number of matches...Not to mention that he was our main man last season in a 4-4-1-1, while this season we actually have a system built for the whole team and not just one player.

We have time. We should give Kalas and Omerue a chance before we go and buy a top defender..not that there are many of those in the market, atm.
-
Uh-oh. Smauel down injured for Cameroon and he's going to be stretchered off Looked like a calf injury, hope it's nothing serious.. EDIT: He was walking again after being stretchered off, so it's not as bad as it first looked.

Kerry, I think a trip to the specsavers' is in order Welcome Jake. Hope you stick around and join the discussion
-
Yes, but I'm not talking about his overall play, just the dribbling which has been near impossible in most of our games this season, especially in the league.
-
Because with us he is always double-marked, double-marked and triple-marked.
-
I was talking about the speed of execution as well. Some players don't rush moving the ball so they can have that extra fraction of a second to think of what exactly to do with it. And again there is a long list of world-class players that don't agree with you. I don't claim to know what Jose is thinking, but there are tactical reasons for team selection. Against Steaua, we did not Mikel in order to keep possession as they did not really fight for it, neither did they cause any major threat going forward so starting Frank to take advantage of his scoring abilities was the right call. For the same reason I expect Frank to start against Cardiff next weekend. Against Norwich, the game plan was to play long balls to Ba to exploit their CBs and keeper and so obviously Frank, being our best long ball passer, had to start. Jose himself said that Mikel has been playing great and doing an important job for the team after the Fulham game, I don't imagine that would have changed completely after only 45 minutes of football.

Best individual performance you've ever seen?

There's also his perfect hat-trick vs spuds. -
Takes a lot of technical ability

Hey! I have those exact same glasses

Are you kidding? That fourth goal was one of the best goals in history. Even the other goals were excellent goals that took great physical and technical skills. He was simply unplayable that day. -
You were saying that speed is a necessary part of technical ability, which just isn't true as evident by a very long list of world class "lazy" players. And trust me, Pirlo is by no means quick on the ball, even with his passing. Frank, to give an example, moves the ball much quicker than Pirlo, but obviously Pirlo's passing technique is on whole different level than Frank (and almost every football player on earth, for that matter). That is rather contradictory. All I was saying is that players don't have to be quick to have good technical ability. When did I ever say that we shouldn't buy a replacement for Mikel? I think we need at least one great pivot player in the next two transfer windows and this should be our priority. I'd love nothing more than for us to have 3-4 world class pivot players and Mikel being fifth in pecking order, but that's not the case atm and Mikel currently has an important role to play with the team. But the constant criticism of Obi when he's had a good start to the season is getting beyond tedious and ridiculous, imo.
