Long term solution? What exactly is the problem? He's not here to be the star, not now not in the future. He's here to be a squad player and very few teams can say they have a player of this quality for that role. I personally would NOT prefer a young player for this role. We have more than enough player "for the future". We need players with experience, and when it's someone who's already won things even with this very club. It's pretty damn smart signing by the club, imo. EDIT: Add to that the fact that he's coming on a free, so there is literally nothing to lose by signing him.

Great squad depth player. He's still quality as he showed last season and technically, I would MUCH rather have him on the bench than Frank. Plus, we've all been talking about the lack of leaders in the team, well there you go. A leader whos' been here before and knows the club as well as the older players. This signing is an almost ZERO risk one. I can't understand why anyone wouldn't want him here.

I think we were the most represented club at the World Cup with 16 players iirc. So I agree with Jason, it's very good that most got knocked out of the group stages or half our squad would have missed preseason and been exhausted and under-prepared at the start of the season.

It's not that he's used him badly, but that he does not have the players to bring the best out of him, especially that he's far from his best form due to his injuries. The other striker depends on the Lukaku situation, imo, which looks very complicated at the moment. But if Lukaku is sold, then I definitely think we need a third striker along with Costa and Torres, because I can't see either of Eto'o or Ba staying beyond the summer (although, if I had to choose one of them to stay it would probably be Ba). It's the French BeIN that are allegedly reporting this. I know little about them to say if they are reliable or not. But the Arabic BeIN are extremely reliable.

Jake is not reporting those wages, he's assuming them to say how much he'd cost on FFP.

I've had my doubts as well, and frankly it's more fear than doubts because of all that we've went through with striker in the past. I think it's only normal. But with looking so likley, I think the best thing is to be hopeful and supportive. Yeah, I think it's just bad timing to join the Spanish NT because as I said, I think they're going through some sort of identity struggle. I'm sure that he has his sentimental or otherwise reasons to join Spain, but purely technically speaking, Brazil would have been the much better fit for him, imo.
