Also I think the mystery helps. They haven't seen him play and he is costing quite a bit of cash to bring in. The novelty of a mysterious expensive player makes for a lot of excitment and buzz.

I can understand why he doesn't like the German mentality and approach. I've met only a handful or Germans so this comes a bit of experience, not much but a bit. Germans are stereotypically very reserved and hardworking people. They are also boring, nice people, just very boring.
