Nigeria had many injuries leading into the tournament. Onazi from Lazio is a starter and was very good at the ACN, but got injured less than a week before the game against Tahiti. Moses and Emenike are also starters but were also injured, so less experienced players were thrown in instead, which probably explains some of their weird play in the final third.

During the season people here said it's more likely for Falcao to flop than him, and i replied along the lines of - any player can flop etc etc. Cavani has shown for Uruguay he's not a 54m player (not just in the confederations cup), he lacks confidence, and misses chances a player of his calibre should be putting away. Now this is very very different from how he is at Napoli. So maybe it is the Serie A, or Napoli's system that suit him so well. Because he doesn't even play solely on the wings anymore, and still doesn't perform. I would love it if he came here and scored every week, but i just cringe at the thought of yet another big money striker failing here, it would simply be fucking disgusting. Hopefully Jose knows who's right for the team, and we actually have some luck signing a player in that position again.

His CB partner was not bad also, i can't remember Suarez getting the better of either of them like he normally does to PL defenders. Their problem is the fullbacks, the LB is pretty average and Ambrose is just slightly better than Bosingwa.

Do you consider Lampard a CDM? he still joins in the attack every time and scores his fair share of goals. Oscar can take over his role, and be the link between defence and attack. His passing is good, and work-rate excellent so i think he can do well there. It's surely better than having him on the wings or on the bench as backup to Mata.

Probably right, but on paper at least - Italy have one of the best midfield in international football, yet Japan were all over them. In the 2nd half of the game against Brazil, they just lacked any confidence or conviction - even when Brazil seemed to lose their way a bit.

If Japan played like that against Brazil, they would have won, easily.

You weren't on here when we were really linked with Neymar, but then i was 100% in support of signing him and believed all the hype. But his performances the past couple months (and at Copa America) have left a lot to be desired, so not really surprised to see many calling him overrated or ineffective etc. But he's done well so far in the confederations cup, and he will need to continue that at Barcelona to prove the doubters wrong.
