As for the second part of your post - i agree mostly, and i did not have a problem with Mata on the bench the first few games. My problem was he didn't get a fair chance to prove his worth - he started 1 game against Villa after injury and no preseason, it wasn't a surprise he didn't play well. Then after that he was left on the bench for Man utd and Bayern. All of a sudden he's back in the team against Everton, but a long time after he had last played (international break also factored), and he had a so-so game. Now he's back in the team because he finally got some consistent minutes. He isn't going to play well every game, he didn't even do that last season when he was generally amazing, because some games are just too physical for him, but he will play well - for the most part - to 'earn' his place in the team.

Mata has proved for 2 seasons he's our best playmaker. Come end of the season if Oscar is playing at a level even remotely close to Mata in previous seasons, then i can entertain a different idea. Also Oscar's pass was intercepted, only for Hazard to steal the ball due to a bad touch. Nevertheless an assist on the counter is not the same as when the opposition have everyone back. Oscar is decent/good at this, Mata is at a level close to Master Ozil. So to say he isn't our best creator, because of 9 games this season where he's had an inconsistent run in the team is just jokes.

The defence was almost faultless till Mourinho switched to 3 def to try to win the game. Everything was comfortable for Luiz and JT, and i honestly didn't think Norwich would score... then somehow JT gets beat in the air, something that seldom ever happens. No complaints since he's been great all season, but if that was Luiz, Redknapp and co. would be crying about how he's a liability. Overall it was a good game, as usual we should have killed the game before they even got into it, but miss too many chances. Only this time, we were able to bring on 65m worth of (good) attacking talent to fix it.

I missed most of the 2nd half, but in the 1st, Mata was largely anonymous in attack but still created a clear cut chance for Ba. And the stat above said he created 3 in total. That is simply what he does better than anyone else on this team - if there's a game Mata plays and we manage to create less chances, then it's only going to be worse without him on the pitch.

Schurrle is not in this game, I expect him to come off soon for Willian or Hazard.
