The problem with this youth led strategy is that it’s not as easy for us to get UCL football every year as it used to be in the Roman era. We used to be able to just take it for granted. When you now legitimately have around 8-10 clubs that could realistically fight for a UCL place you need to supplement your squad with proven quality. Having a team of only kids whilst the other big clubs are buying finished products is just not going to take us where we want to be. The names were being linked with this summer tell us once again that this ownership is not yet ambitious about taking the club to title challenger status and are content with “achieving” 4th again next season.

Reijnders is more of a #8 I think. Cherki looks to be their Gibbs-White alternative.

Over and over these jokers are willing to pay silly money for unproven teenagers but when it comes to ready made, plug and play veterans we have to haggle and lowball. Won’t pay up for Osimhen, Gyokeres, Nico Williams, etc but are perfectly happy spending tens of millions on 60 different teenagers who may never play a minute for Chelsea.

Fabrizio has apparently reiterated that we’re currently negotiating for Gittens. Guess we should prepare ourselves for this to happen, then. Infinitely better than splashing any kind of money on bloody Garnacho but still super underwhelming. Just have to hope that we snag ourselves another Palmer and not another Madueke/Mudryk. From what I’m seeing reading around about Maignan is that he doesn’t make silly, catastrophic errors despite being known as a great ball playing keeper. That alone means he’d be a massive upgrade on Sánchez.

Could Maignan be one of those transfer sagas that comes out of nowhere and is sewn up in no time? Didn’t Pedro Neto happen like that last summer?

I’d have been over the moon with us going for Maignan a year or two ago. But from everything I’ve read he has taken a big step back recently. Guess the biggest shock though is that we may indeed be after a new keeper which is the last thing I expected.

I’d take Mbeumo a million times over Gittens or Garnacho.

I was fine with Sancho staying or going. But fuck sake, if we actually sign Gittens for £50m to replace him. A 15th placed, broke, club in absolute shambles Man United are going to have more ambitious targets than us after finishing in the UCL and winning a trophy. 🤦‍♂️

Have to agree unless we were to sign Nico Williams which looks highly unlikely. Think Mbuemo is going to thrive in all the games against the other big teams for United where you would assume they’ll have less of the ball and he can use his pace and aggression on counter attacks just like at Brentford. I wasn’t personally bothered whatsoever about them splashing on Cunha who is a good player. But Mbuemo I think will pretty scary if Amorim and their recruitment can nail this rebuild.

For sure there would be some of our fans underwhelmed if we signed him but not me. It’s not even mostly about his goals for me but about his playing style and mentality. He’s an animal on the pitch.

If they get a proper striker like Gyokeres then they’ll have a genuinely great attack. For a club that finished 15th and were a total embarrassment. Biggest thing they’re still missing though is a decent central midfield. They need a total rebuild in there. Unfortunately, it appears like United SHOULD take a big step forward next season instead of continuing to be a laughingstock like I had hoped. Having no European football and 1 game per week to focus on most of the season should massively help them fright for 4th.

Mbuemo to United, then. That’ll be an annoyingly good signing.

As others in here have mentioned, it’s probably never a good sign when the supporters of the club aren’t bothered at all if a player is sold. Dortmund fans seem perfectly happy to see Gittens sold. For me he feels like such a Spurs or Villa level signing where that sort of price is the highest they’ll go to and his level is all they can attract. Chelsea should be aiming much higher. All Gittens feels like he’d be here is expensive squad depth. And since that’s the case we may as well just keep Sancho for half the cost.

Can’t imagine it. He’s the complete opposite profile that this ownership goes after. Too old and WAY too high wages. He’ll probably be out on loan to some midtable club with City covering some of his wages until his contract runs out.
