We should be using this fancy new scouting and football director system we have in place to find a new keeper that’s the next big thing rather than being forced to spend silly money on Onana. Surely there are some gems out there that we can get for €20-30m rather than the £50m or more Inter want or even more that Milan want for Maingan.
-
We were right on the verge of signing Ugarte (probably only hours away) and then after missing out on him we haven’t heard a peep about us moving on to the next target. Why haven’t we instantly advanced things with Caicedo, Lavia, or whoever else? We sitting back and waiting until Liverpool, Arse, and United snatch everyone up? Fabrizio tweeted last night that Liverpool are quickly moving on to sign 2 more quality midfielders having already sealed Mac Allister. They’ll be after some of the same targets we are. So what are we doing?
-
The Leeds keeper was outstanding in the ‘21/‘22 season but apparently was pretty poor this past one. Not sure how I’d feel about targeting him. Still very young so maybe can’t judge him accurately yet.
-
Spuds apparently going to sign Raya so that’s 1 keeper we’ve been linked to likely off the table. Tbh, I’m kinda glad because I don’t want another small keeper.
-
In theory, sending Casadei on loan to Brighton as part of a deal for Caicedo would be brilliant. They’re perhaps the best place in the PL for a young talent to develop. But that’s only if he actually plays meaningful and consistent minutes which would be a big question mark. Brighton are now in a position where they’re aiming way higher than they ever have in the past. They’re no longer thinking merely about PL survival but instead pushing for European football. Several of our highly rated youth players recently have gone on loan to places we thought would be brilliant for them and then they just didn’t really play. I’m not sure Brighton will want to replace hugely experienced midfielders like Mac Allister and Caicedo with a kid that’s still quite raw.
-
Best bet is to make him available for a dirt cheap price. If Inter decide they don’t want him any longer then someone will take a punt for £25-30m or something.
-
Yeah, my bad. Still, Liverpool were insane that season. Anyone hoping to finish above City will have to be a team capable of wining all huge numbers of games in a row and barely slip up at all.
-
The only real hope City’s domestic rivals have is that the eventual replacements for De Bruyne, Gündogan, Bernardo, Mahrez generation don’t work out as well. And more importantly that Pep gets burned out and retires. The only team that has bettered them in recent years had to be just about perfect. And they still barely squeaked it. All it takes in 1 bad month over a 38 game season and you see what happened with Arse this year. That’s how absurd their squad is.
-
I just can’t see who can top them domestically any time soon. They’ve just dominated and won the treble but will only get even stronger by adding to their squad. As long as Pep is there they’ll be strong favorites.
-
Unlike PSG I think it was inevitable that City would eventually win the UCL. Just annoying that they also win the treble in the same year. I had always assumed it would come in a year where they “gave up” on the PL and focused 100% on Europe. But their absurd depth makes it so that they can have an unbelievable XI on the pitch at all times with no drop off.
-
That’s that, then. 😔
-
Desperately want Inter to win. One, so we don’t have to hear everyone slobbering over them about the treble for years and two, so we as Chelsea fans can always laugh at them for not having the one major trophy that we have.
-
Appears Havertz to Madrid isn’t the sure thing it was assumed the other day. If he doesn’t go to Madrid or some other non-PL club we should not even entertain selling him to a rival. I’m perfectly fine keeping hold of him.
-
Imagine telling us Chelsea supporters just a year ago or 2 years ago after the UCL Final that ALL of Kante, Kova, Jorginho, and Mount would be moved on at essentially the same time. It’s crazy to think that all these massive players for the club will be gone. Add in Havertz & Mendy and that’s just about every player that was extremely instrumental to our win in Porto. But honestly, you would struggle to make a super convincing case that any should be kept. They’re all either aging or have stagnated badly.
-
The club were obviously trying hard to get Ugarte in early and were in the verge of doing so, so it’s strange that following that failure we haven’t immediately advanced on others in the week since. Not even a peep about us bidding for or negotiating with any clubs about midfielders. Just a vague “Chelsea really like Caicedo.” Yeah, us and about 5 other clubs. What are we actually doing about it? And still not the faintest hint about wtf we’re going to do about a striker. There have been ZERO tangible links to strikers for the one club in world football who desperately needs one more than any other.
-
Wonder what we’re waiting for to announce Nkunku. He apparently signed 6 months ago.
-
The window not officially opening yet hasn’t stopped other clubs signing players.
-
Even our outgoing business seems to have totally stalled. Felt like last week Kova, Havertz, Mount, and RLC were right on the verge of leaving and now no updates in a while.
-
I saw something yesterday or the day before about how Liverpool weren’t after Caicedo. And surely Arse can’t afford to drop £100m on Rice and also £80m or whatever on Caicedo? So it’s pretty much just United and maybe Newcastle as potential competition for him, I guess. And I haven’t really seen any links to United. I would certainly hope we are pushing for him as we speak.
-
Lavia is already nicely developed and he’s not even 20 yet. He’s not close to the finished article and obviously can’t be our only midfield target, but I’d be happy to sign him.
-
Ehh. I disagree. I think a midfield 3 of Enzo, Mac Allister, and Thuram or Koné would be pretty damn good.
-
We ain’t signing Neymar, come on.
-
With that cheap of a price for Mac Allister, Liverpool may be able to completely rebuild their midfield with 3 players for the price WH may ask for Rice or Brighton may ask for Caicedo. And neither Rice nor Caicedo are even close to as good as Enzo which shows you how massive the PL tax is.
-
After the Ugarte debacle it doesn’t really seem as though we’re close to any other deal. It’s kind of stunning that we haven’t really been linked to a striker at all. The one most dire position of need and really the only name we’ve heard is Osimhen who is completely unrealistic. The Napoli owner will ask €150m for him at this point. And then in midfield there are plenty of names we’re linked with but we don’t seem to be advancing on any of them yet. Liverpool on the other hand are pushing forward with about 3 midfielders all at once. A club we will hope to rival to get back into the top 4. Appears we’re almost paralyzed by needing to sell our deadwood.
-
So that’ll be Kante, Kova, Mount, RLC, and for whatever it’s worth Zakaria all gone in one summer. Tbh, even 2 new midfielders may not be enough unless we are 100% going to give one of the 3 teenagers we’ve signed recently a real shot at first team footy.
