All month long we’ve heard about how it was the 100m or nothing. Now we stump up the 100m and still the deal is up in the air. If what ALL of the reliable journalists yesterday reported is true (that we DID out £106m in the table) then that means the extra installments only total a few million, right? Is that small amount really holding up this deal?
-
Wonder what’s happening currently with other deals. Where’s the Ziyech deal at? And what happens with Conor? Can’t imagine multiple clubs won’t have a go at Gallagher today.
-
Btw, Jorginho seemed to be extremely well liked in the dressing room and was clearly a very vocal leader on the pitch. Selling him to another PL club (and that PL club in particular) without replacing him may cause some issues in terms of morale and players thinking “man, wtf are we doing?”
-
If a deal to bring him in now isn’t happening at least do a Nkunku/Gusto agreement and have it locked in for summer.
-
Yeah, probably Caicedo for double what he’s actually worth.
-
Exactly. Which is again why I think Rui Costa is doing this to intentionally fuck with us. String us along and make us think they’re negotiating in good faith and then refuse in the end. I mean seriously, how can they turn down £100m+ for a player who they bought for peanuts less than a year ago? What kind of business person does that? A player who has told him he WANTS to go!
-
It appears the ONLY way they will accept is if we pay all the money at once. No “payment structure,” no installments. This bastard Rui Costa is digging his heels in and fucking with us.
-
It’s nearly 6am now. I wake up at the crack of dawn everyday. “Still monitoring” options tells me that we will fucking panic buy someone for an insane fee if Enzo fails. Probably throw an absurd £80m or more at Brighton.
-
Our window will go from brilliant to super letdown if we fail to get Enzo at this point. Our attack will have gotten significantly better but our midfield will have gotten worse. And that’s not a recipe for turning our season around.
-
Replacing Jorginho, our most experienced midfielder and someone who has been essentially the heartbeat of the team, with an 18 year old kid who has never played a minute of European football makes no sense. That can’t be what the plan is here, surely. We would only allow him to go if a direct upgrade is coming in or we’re idiots. Especially as Kova and Zakaria are coming off fresh injuries and Kante hasn’t played all season so who knows how he’ll look if he returns.
-
Jorginho will do exactly what they need him to do for the remainder of the season. An extra body in midfield that they can rotate in and provide a calm, tidy passer. He’s not going to be some disaster that all the idiot Gooner’s are crying about. Good luck to him. One of my favorite Chelsea players during this last few years until he started actively harming our team with his lack of mobility.
-
This is the thing that’s preventing me from worrying too much for the time being. Surely the club wouldn’t sanction Jorginho’s move (to a hated rival!) without getting their primary replacement in.
-
It almost feels political at this point. Like Benfica is taking a stand on principal to not sell to big, bad Chelsea.
-
My God, if after we’ve all got our hopes up yesterday we fail for a second time to get Enzo I’m gonna be sick. How can they turn down €120m if that happens, ffs?
-
Feels like we’re all little kids on Christmas Eve waiting for our parents to give us a new gaming system tomorrow. Let’s hope we don’t wake up to some socks and underwear instead!
-
Todd and co wanted to save some bangers for deadline day. Chelsea is going to single-handedly give Sky Sports and all these transfer obsessed pundits stuff to talk about all day tomorrow.
-
Arse forum are absolutely melting down about the prospect of them signing Jorginho. 😂 I’ll reiterate that I think he’d do a decent job for them and they’ll come around on him after he plays a few matches for them.
-
Maybe while Todd is there he can convince Benfica to take some of our deadwood?
-
I realize this is a massive, gigantic, hugely complicated deal but damn… You’d think most of the legwork would’ve been done already since we’ve been chasing him since apparently December.
-
Doubt the club announce a record deal after midnight UK time when the home fans are asleep.
-
Same, but pretty clear whatever happens won’t happen today.
-
We don’t actually have the ideal, perfect partner for Enzo currently with Kante out. If he was 100% fit we’d have the best midfield 2 in Europe. Enzo + Kova will dominate lesser teams but I wonder if they’d have the defensive steel and discipline to hold up as a 2 against the very best teams. So you can see why we MIGHT go for a pure DM in the summer.
-
Yeah, very stupid. If he looks poor at PSG on loan then we’ll have even more trouble getting rid. We need to start getting these underperforms for good not on loan. Ziyech, Pulisic, RLC, Jorginho. Loans do us no good at all.
-
In a lot of ways PSG is literally the perfect landing spot for Ziyech. His lazy, nonchalant attitude and body language on a team that can sleepwalk through most matches is perfect. He can use his skills much more effectively with the opponents focused so much on their other attackers.
-
Yeah, I’d target him in the summer if we can clear a couple of midfielders out but it feels extremely unnecessary now if we land Enzo.
