No more mega money strikers. We need to put these new scouts and sporting directors to work on finding the next inexpensive gem that can become a superstar. Maybe that’ll be David Fofana.
-
Same exact reason Bellingham is worth so much. When you’re very young and already hugely polished and accomplished like this the price skyrockets. There are rare cases where a player’s skill set is so good that the bust potential is very low. I think Enzo (like Bellingham) is nailed on to be top class.

Wonder if we could see a flurry of outgoing’s tomorrow and Tuesday.
-
Don’t think we’ll after a traditional #9 again any time soon. If we get Enzo this month I think the only 1 or 2 things we’ll be after in the summer is perhaps a new keeper and possibly a pure DM depending on what happens with Kante.
-
If we pull this off I do indeed think we will get in trouble with UEFA or whoever. Without any sales even I don’t know how in Earth we’d be doing all this.
-
I mean, it IS new that we’re apparently willing to pay the money. That’s pretty exciting. Not going to let myself get too gassed because it‘s the hope that kills your in the end.
-
Law says story to come….well?! Is this another rehashed “Chelsea are ‘considering’ making another offer” that we’ve seen 100 times over the last month or are we actually speaking with Benfica again?
-
A huge portion of our fans are just setting themselves up for heartbreak by letting themselves believe that Enzo is still possible in the next few days.
-
Unless we hear something from Ornstein and Fabrizio then we shouldn’t believe anything regarding Enzo. Isn’t this latest update about a new bid/attempt from the same dude who said it was a done deal and signed a few weeks ago? For a transfer that’s this expensive we’d hear from multiple top English sources if anything was going on.
-
I guess I’m in “see it to believe it” mode when it comes to Liverpool spending £100m+ on any player. If they suddenly get a new ownership group perhaps.
-
Madrid already have 3 future superstar midfielders, though. Where does Bellingham fit when there’s already Camavinga, Tchouameni, and Velverde? I think he ends up at City to replace Gündogan. With the weird ownership stuff going on at Liverpool I can’t picture them spending well north of £100m on a player.
-
Nobody will go to €150m for Enzo but I absolutely think both Manchester clubs would trigger his €120m clause in the summer. That’s why it’s so crucial we do so before they decide to. Hopefully they’re preoccupied by chasing Bellingham and it leaves us to Enzo.

That’s our business done I’d say. Overall I think I’d give this January window an 7/10. Completely refreshed a stale attack in a single window, bought a young CB that I was skeptical about but has instantly settled, and have now made sure the RB position is locked down for years to come. Would’ve bumped it up to 8/10 if we could’ve brought Gusto in immediately and a 10/10 if we could’ve pulled off an Enzo deal. But those two scenarios appeared impossible due to the selling clubs.
-
I definitely thought there would be more of a panic/scramble for a midfielder right near the deadline. But I’m happy to see that Boehly apparently won’t be doing something stupid and buying some mediocre midfielder just to get a fresh body in. It’s smart to just wait for our primary target until the summer whether that’s Enzo, Rice, or whoever. Seems like Gusto will be our final deal this window.
-
I agree. Caicedo is a solid player but nothing more than that. He’d be a nice addition to any midfield but he isn’t a very top player. As I said last night, he’s a player who if we signed I’d be fine with it but if we don’t I won’t lose sleep.
-
I honestly can’t even picture Mase in any other shirt but a Chelsea one. Huge connection with the English fan base and essentially the face of Chelsea to many. I don’t think the club hierarchy will let him go. The thing is though, with all the attacking talent we’re bringing in it’ll be extremely difficult to justify paying him the £200-300k per week he’s probably asking for when he’ll no longer be a nailed on starter like he has been these past few years. Really tricky position we find ourselves in with him. I think he’d be perfect for a Klopp side and would fit Liverpool like a glove so that’s something Boehly has to take into account. He could haunt us for a decade at a direct rival. But at the same time I think if we were to sign Félix on a permanent deal he’s an upgrade in that area of the pitch.
-
Kind of insane that we haven’t sold any senior players this window despite all the money we’ve spent. I thought for sure at least a couple would go.
-
You can probably get 2 midfielders who are just as good if not better than Caicedo for £90m. Fair play to Brighton for standing firm on their price, I guess. Because nobody is laying that and that’s the idea.
-
I think there will be plenty of suitors for Lukaku but we’ll almost certainly have to pay some of his wages if it’s another loan. He’ll still score goals and he’s still a “big name” that a smaller club can sell to their supporters. I can see him at a West Ham or back at Everton to a heroes welcome for example. Sides that will need a bit of a boost after what’s going to be a shit season.
-
The idea of Mourinho under an owner like Boehly giving him whatever he asked for would’ve been intriguing a decade ago. But he’s out of touch with modern attacking football.
-
Hopefully I don’t wake up tomorrow morning to find out we’ve paid stupid money for Caicedo. 😬
-
Think they really wanted Félix, too.
-
If we get him in the end, cool. If not, I’m not bothered.
-
Yeah, him releasing that statement today after Arse bid surely means he’s off there. So hopefully we are confident in the Enzo deal either now or for summer.
-
Since Benfica are also so adamant that they won’t sell Enzo this window, why don’t we do the same there and buy him now and let him stay there until summer? They’d surely be much more open to that. Imagine the anticipation of having Gusto, Nkunku, and Enzo all to look forward to in the summer. It would be like Christmas morning!
