I love how he plays on the half-turn and defenders don't know how to mark him. Once he really settles down we will have a superb player. Imagine him in a Chelsea team that presses well and always finds him in the spaces he picks up? It's a dream.

Our team has changed a lot in recent years. With the group of young players we have now and those emerging they have no real set formation that they can only function in. Then you throw in transfers still to be made and this team has no real default system, any new manager would have to devise formations, strategies and so on. Other than the quandary of fitting Hazard, Oscar and Mata into a 3-5-2 there is a lot of room for manoeuvre. The fullbacks aren't eliminated, they're just required to play like wingbacks. It can be argued that they practically already do right now. What I think a 3-5-2 would allow us to do is swamp the midfield and press teams up high. We don't have an ethos. We just have a formation that happens to suit some of the players we have now. And as players come and go we need to develop new ways of playing.
-
First of all, this is a hypothetical situation that would only come into play next season which would allow the new manager to sign players suited to his tactics whether that's 3-5-2 or anything else. Some of the players we have now could easily work well in a 3-5-2. Take Luiz for instance, he's almost the prototype of the defender you want in a back three; athletic, talented on the ball and intercepts well. But , as you mentioned, we also have players unsuited to that formation. The point I'm making is counting out a manager because he uses is a different formation doesn't make any sense. When Mourinho showed up with his patented 4-3-3 I'm sure people were saying it would never work in a country dominated by 4-4-2 yet we lived on that formation for the best part of a decade even after his departure.
-
That also applies to Hazard, Oscar, Mata and Ba. It's a disgrace that we have some of the best young attacking midfielders in the world and haven't yet devised a way to make sure they always have a platform to work their magic. I understand that also requires them to work hard themselves but Oscar has shown he can, Hazard has the ability and it's only Mata who struggles in that department.
-
Why not? God forbid a Chelsea manager shows some ingenuity. I recall Juve playing us off the park at their ground with a 3-5-2.
-
Strong second half and unlucky not to get the winner.
-
Why did he let Ferdinand abuse him like that? He is such a soft twat it hurts to see him wear the shirt.
-
He and Ramires are the best two midfielders at the club. That they don't start together in our most important games is a travesty.
-
Lampard rubbish again. The team vastly improved once he was hauled off. Mikel and Ramires is our best midfield duo by faaaaaaaar. You have one guy who sits and passes and another who uses his energy and speed and, despite his all his flaws, is still very effective in this current team.

Should we put our faith in the youth?

Sounds very much like the next manager has identified his main target. Guess the new man doesn't care much for the young players. -
Head and heart both say defeat so hopefully it won't be too embarrassing.

Are we going to finish in the top 4? - Achieved!

Looked totally out of his depth today against an ordinary team with no real quality. -
Hazard lost the ball because whenever he recieved it he was swarmed by at least 3 players. He was an identified dangerman and was treated as such. Lampard wasn't operating in those conditions and still put in an abject display even worse than Hazard.
-
About 10 minutes worth of good play in the whole match against a team that showed little desire for most of the game. Once West Brom decided to actually try and score a goal we were hanging on for dear life. If that match went on ten minutes longer we would have lost.
-
I'm just constantly shaking my head at; the passing, the technique, the control, the pressing, the tactics you name it. There isn't a single thing the team does to an even competent level. It's just a disjointed group of individuals jogging around aimlessly in the same colour shirt.
-
Hazard had to deal with balls smashed into him that he somehow had to control and then attempt to dribble past 3 defenders. Hazard created the ONE GOOD CHANCE we had in the ENTIRE game for Benayoun.
-
Does anybody actually enjoy watching us play anymore? It's the most boring, talentless football being served up every week.
-
He looked about 50 years old out there today. Slow, clumsy, off the pace, outmuscled and overrun. How many times was he dispossessed? I lost count.
-
Terrible football from start to finish. I feel sorry for the poor sods who travelled away to go watch that crap. Does Roman even watch this shit? Would love to hear what he thinks about the football we play.
-
Of course, tt's just a blog, I have never taken their opinions as fact or hold them in high regard because they have their own site. They post some interesting stuff from time to time but it's just a blog at the end of the day. And I know their name is tongue in cheek but it's still shit.
-
That ^^^ article was actually written because somebody posted THIS THREAD on their site and linked them to page 66. So go on own up, who did it?
-
Forgot to add that whenever I'm in need of a laugh it's nice to know I can watch his performance in the Champions League final as it fits the description. How bad was he that night? Some of those misses were hilarious
-
I would be exteremly upset if we bought this donkey. We already haver Torres to miscontrol the ball and look out of place, we don't need another technically deficient moron up top.
-
Why shouldn't I? He said a potential transfer was held up by salary demands, that is very common. What's uncommon is a player going on record and saying he will accept less than he currently earns.
-
Don't look for it because you'll never find it. I refeuse to believe anybody, let alone a footballer, would go on TV and say "yes I will accept less than I earn now". It's unheard of. Apologies for name calling. :tophat:
