Because we lack leaders on the pitch. You need guys like Azpi, Rudiger, Terry, Cahill, A.Cole, Thiago Silva, Kante to help develop that culture.
You don't go around spending 250 million on a midfield setup who aren't a good match for each other.
Problem is, what happens if Enzo or Caicedo lose form, can Maresca drop them or will they continue to play due to the amount the club invested in them?

Maybe but its more nuanced than that. there are fundamental flaws from top down - the culture and cohesive nature of the club appear to have fundamentally changed, to one of individualism so agree about teamwork lacking

It is also the reality of the situation. How many of the UCL team are still here? Azpi, Rudiger, Christensen, Thiago, Alonso, Jorginho Kante Kovacic, Mount Havertz. The turn over in the squad has been crazy and I honestly don't think we've actually improved in defense or midfield from that team.
Enzo and Caicedo wouldn't be able to match the trio we had and same for the current defense against Rudiger and co.

Just watched a short documentary on Micheal Essien.. 🥲
Watching clips of that team.. and bloody hell… how has it come to this.
i know every club has its cycle… but its such a huge drop off.

Brighton have new players, new coach and they don't look like they have that many 'teamwork' issues. Even Liverpool went away from the Klopp methods and they still look good under Slot.
The main thing is, you're playing at home to a plucky team, you get 7 shots on target and you can't score the 2nd goal that would have broken the game open.
Palace will be just like Forest, Fulham and so many other sides that will come to the Bridge looking for that 1 goal as they know that may be enough to walk away with a point.
As they say, there's no point having more possession if you're not going to do anything with it.

Yeahhh didn't expect any higher we haven't got that quality to come together unless it's very well hidden...

Just got back.
Having caicedo and Enzo on the pitch together doesn't work.
Enzo made one decent pass all match other than that terrible.
Still no leader(s) -another mid table finish looms

I'm still in mine
the decision to fire poch and lose that year of reconstruction and bet on a coach who came from the championship in a medium-long term project, when the team was finally showing interesting signs, was one of the strangest decisions I can remember seeing

they are delusional
only reason there was a draw today was Rice seeing red
it COMPLETELY changed the game
look that their first 3 games
one goal allowed
and that would not have ocurred, IMHO, if no red, plus they likely would have scored another 1 or 2
to claim, (as they did) that we are 'leagues ahead' of that is just silliness

I think I’m losing the plot , but I think it’s been a total shambles.
Many deals left until the last minute — which means we don’t get the best price for selling as clubs see us as desperate to offload. As I said previously we never seem to get our preferred target and we make our interest so well known that the selling club takes us for top dollar.
Yes we have ended up shipping out some failures, but we still have a lot left I.e Badiashille,Disasi, Mudryk etc. To win the Premiership you need a strong spine - Goalkeeper, Centre Half and Centre Forward,we have none of those components

Ofc they are. They have the same manager for 7 years(and not even a crap one) who build the whole squad himself. Almost all of his key players have been there for 4+ years, they are a TEAM.
We are a large group of players, selected by several different coaches with several different styles, our longest serving players(who are in the rotation) have been here for like 1.5 seasons..
Why wouldn’t City be miles ahead us? Hard work and continuity pays off, it would be a miracle if the mess we have been doing recent years would lead into a top team instantly.

it’s making me very sad watching Man City again today — how many players have they signed/resigned in this window —3 or 4 ? And they are a million miles in front of us !!!

well, I listed the only two true deadwoods we sold (IMHO) all from this window (the Hall sale was obligated from last season)
the rest either left on frees
or, like you said, are still here or just can-kicked on no obligation/option loans (other than the very small fee Humphreys obligation plus the Broja option, and I will be shocked if Everton pay £30m for the Albanian tractor next summer, he looks truly shit since his injury)

I am not including Gallagher in the “ deadwood” as he shouldn’t have been sacrificed in the first place , to pay for some of the other bad signings we have made

I have never seen a top 20 in the world club in a more complicated mess, and we just keep digging deeper
we have huge issues on so so many levels, both on and off the pitch
in no order:
new stadium plans in shambles atm
possible bans/relegation for multiple reasons (FFP, Roman old shenanigans, dodgy co-club sales) which could result in Euro bans, transfer bans, points deduction, or even straight relelgation
potentially well fucked at CF, CB, and GKer, especially if we have a few key injuries
so so much deadwood not dealt with in terms of permanent solutions, as in so many cases we just loaned them out with no guarantee of non return, including multiple players on massive wages
no shirt main sponsor yet (truly wtf) unless something happened that I am missing
academy/youth teams spiralling down, key people sacked
absolutely foundational lack of both common sense and overall direction from the main upper management, plus the ownership
I am sure I am forgetting some things
but there is a hell of a start (or continuance if you will) to a long period of potential perdition

We don't lack a CF. Jackson is one of the best in the league already and only improving.

This is indeed bizarre. I begrudgingly accept we have to sell our academy grads for pure profit bc of PSR but loaning them out makes absolutely 0 sense. Esp when they are superior to the options we are keeping in turn.

Because of leverage? Napoli had no leverage in this deal - and now they are stuck with an asset they have to pay that won't play. They will be looking to sell in January, and it will be at a far lower price again.
You can't expect everything to go perfect. The ownership are getting rid of a lot of the dross and have upgraded the squad dramatically. They move quick, and own up to mistakes, hence the moves.
Been a very good window. We have incredible depth upfront, have options in the middle. The only area that is of concern is the CB area - and we haven't really given Fofana and Levi time to settle as a partnership. For as meh as Badi and Disasi are, Disasi is a serviceable back up. Tosin can play the part when rest is needed too.

The club and in particular our “ Sporting Directors” have just become a sad joke. Every year we announce our main target for the window — but we never get them ( last year Kounde, this year Osimhen) !! Man City keep quiet and just do their business early.
Every pundit, supporter knows the one thing we lack is a Centre Forward to lead the line - so what’s the one position we don’t fill, no surprise it’s a Centre Forward !!!!!! I truly hope Felix has improved, because last time he was here he was lightweight and bang average. The only signing that gets me even slightly excited is Neto — but then anything would be a step up from Mudryk and Sterling.
Maduake scored a great hat-trick last week — but if the Sporting Directors/Owners had their way, he would have been sold before the Wolves game.
We are just a complete mess with no joined-up plan. Very, very sad

Seymop reacted to Magic Lamps in The Next Manager?
This delusional obsession with playing possession based control football was already annoying under Roman . No team in the world can play the same way every game. Least of all our team. They tried it first half of the season and we lost most matches to teams just parking the bus. The players we have are suited to press teams and play on the break with their pace, which they did successfully towards the end of the season. Most players don’t have half a brain and could only dream of cutting through packed defenses. These players have been picked by the very same half-wits who now demand possession football. It would be funny how incompetent Eghbali and Clownlake are if it wasn’t this frustrating.
