I like him a lot, he can do everything for a winger and is a massive upgrade on Pedro/Willian

Started the season with a goal. Who knows maybe he explodes this season.

I agree. I won't be disappointed if we don't get top4. I really don't have any expectations in terms of results. But I hope we can be a hit of the season like Ajax last season. They had 5,6 young players with breakthrough season and every football fan in the world now knows about them. So if, let's say after this season Mount is worth 70m, James 50m, CHO and Pulisic close to 100m and others too I will consider season successful. It's not really about money because we won't sell them anyway I just tried to explain it in simple words. This will mean those young players had great season and we can count on them in the future. It will save us a lot of money also.

Which is why it is absolutely marvelous you don't have any impact on the club aside from posting on here.

That’s a big myth, having possession requires a massive amount of energy to maintain the ball, not to mention covering 50+ yards of open space in transition

    Thanks DB,
This is really interesting. Do you know what the comparative stats are for the mileage covered by basketball players over the course of a game? Whatever the mileage comparison, I wonder if that really answers the question of who works harder. An example of what I mean:-
When I was reffing, especially in the early days doing park football, I would easily out run any of the players on the pitch. I would often have a jokey conversation with players about how they were struggling to keep up with me, when I should have been struggling to keep up with them. Yet, when I played, I'd be blowing hard after 20 minutes. My point is that it's not just about the miles that you run when you play football. As a referee I could judge the run that I needed to make. I could judge whether I needed to extend it, sprint it out or just jog. As a player, you're not in that much control. You can be called on to do three peak sprints in succession followed by big physical confrontations when you get there. I promise you it's harder to run half as many miles when you're playing than it is to cover twice as many when you're reffing.
I wonder if we can ever gauge the amount of work done by a footballer in comparison to that done by basketball player? I'm sure calorific expenditure has been measured in both cases but is that enough information to make a judgement?
P.S. The first result I found on Google suggests an average NBA mileage per player, per game of about 2.6 miles and claims that this is roughly one third the average distance for a footballer. My guess is that the physical strain on a footballer is also tougher because of the nature of the sport. That said, I more or less only played basketball at school, so I'm ready to be corrected on this.

There are also other things that you can't really compare to football. Like for example a basketball game lasts only 40 minutes; you can make unlimited subs and no one plays a full game; you have a break between each quarter and many timeouts; requires less running. Also imo playing with feet and head is much more draining physically than with hands. When I played basketball I could easily last full games (with subs of course), but I'd probably die in a full football game.

Are people really outraged about selling a 32 year old who obviously isnt first choice for 8m?
He is on over £100,000 a week and has a 2 year deal. Do the maths, 8m transfer fee plus not having to pay a minimum 5m salary for another 2 years.
Sure we could have maybe gotten 10m or 12m or 15m but he doesnt want to be here, isnt the managers first choice, theres 4 other CBs at the club and really other than his passing he isnt quite good enough.

The very main reason we have done poorly in Europe post the old guard era is because upto last season we couldn't cope against any form of commited pressing which would in turn lead to us being strangled out of games against elite opposition and feeding on absolute scraps. Even the likes of Roma were coming to Stamford Bridge and overwhelming us due to that.
As I've said before I've never been Willian's biggest fan but if I had to entail a list of reasons as to why we've been poor in the CL since winning it, he wouldn't even be the tip of the iceberg.

“The big strong CB is a thing of the past” The 2 best CBs in the world right now (VVD and Koulibaly) are both massive and physically imposing, and it will always be a priority for CBs regardless of era

Ricardo Carvalho had insane jumping abilities. Even when he was older at Madrid, he still outjumped most of his opponents. I highly doubt that Ampadu can jump that high
