The press is doing what it does: selling news and United has more fans, local and abroad. It's just natural Matic is getting more attention now than when at Chelsea.
Speak for myself of course as I never wanted Fabregas to replace Matic in the starting XI...
Let me put it this way: Baka and Drinkwarer still have to produce several!! MotM performances, in pretty tough away matches too, to properly replace matic in my book.
Yes, Matic had bad patches and a bad season, just like Hazard. It happens esp when players overextend themselves as they did in Jose's winning season.
Now he already has MotM performances for United (well at least one), which is totally unsurprising to me. Perhaps he's just a very good player? 
 

Upgrade? I'm sorry but how can you say we've upgraded on someone who was key to both our title wins in the last three years with Bakayoko who has played maybe 120 minutes of football for Chelsea? Just severely insane to even consider that, also on Drinkwater too I don't see him as a huge improvement on Nathaniel Chalobah like some are saying, yet alone even being close to Matic.
Matic was one of the midfielders in our squad who would play the ball forward quick, far quicker than Mikel, Romeu, Kante, Meireles, Essien and whoever else has played in that sort of deeper MF role in the last 5 years. It's no surprise Matic is already a key figure at United, he has freed up Pogba and given United a solid base in MF and I fear that we made a huge mistake selling him to a rival. 
Fair enough Bakayoko is a good player with potential but to say we've upgraded on somebody who was extremely key to both our title successes in the last 3 years, without him having played more than one full game, is ludicrous by all accounts. Kante got all the plaudits last year but the "wayward, inaccurate and slow" partner he had next to him was equally good I thought, playing to the standards he showed when he arrived back from Benfica. The rumour was that Conte didnt even want to sell him at all never mind to Man United.

Bakayoko is not even the D of the Dribbler that Matic is.
Matic is a fleet-footed Marshall of the Game while Bakayoko is a stomping Labourer.
Both Players have their Qualities. Matic is gone and not even worth mentioning.
Bakayoko is here. A good signing so far and I hope Conte solves the Linup Puzzle before the Season turns into that delicate Phase where every single Point counts.

I would still not play in the 11 if we had an upgrade. What is disappointing is that he is sold to not only a rival team but also into a system which is the perfect fit for him.
It is really sad and disappointing for me because the Board goofed up big time by selling to a rival.

Matic's 2015 season was some Yaya Toure level play. He was amazing.

Extremely shortsighted and plain stupid if we sell him there. Essentially completing Mourinho's midfield for him and significantly improving their squad.
He should be kept unless he forces his way out or we receive an acceptable bid from a foreign club. Think he'd 100% be a hit at United and we'd seriously regret it.

He is not the only one — me too, I have seen the epiphany.
It is like in Dragon Ball Z, where San Goku is so fast and so strong, that when he fights against opponents that are on par with him, all of his friends cannot see what is happening as it is too quick for their eyes. This is the same for Matic. What he does is so quick, so subtle and so refined that nearly nobody can appreciate what he is doing on the pitch, aside of a few connoisseurs.
Actually you should search for that interview of Pep Guardiola, where he talks in depth about his team at Barcelonna. He explains that he was desperate to sign the Serbian genius, but unfortunatly, could not. As a consequence, he was left with no other choices than to allocate Matic's role between his three midfielders (Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets). And while everyone consider this midfield-three to be one of the best midfield in history, Guardiola stresses very intensively, in his interview, that he was still not satisfied as he had to use three players (Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets) to do the job which could have been done by only one (Matic). He even admitted that he and del Bosque had a secret plan to try and fashion Sergio Busquets into the same mold as Matic — needless to say, it did failed.
Ancelotti too, has had a lot of nice words towards our Serbian Marshal. Just the other day, when he was discussing his failure here at Chelsea, he told the reporter that it was undoubtedly due to the critical mistake of having sold Matic to Benfica. To have lost Matic was what made the difference between a winning team scoring 103 goals and a team that painfully finished second ex-æquo.

You know nothing about Chelsea or it's fans mate you're talking out of your brown eye. Going back to the 70's Chelsea fans are at the player of the year presentation the audience is a mixture of members, season ticket holders and fans from various supporters groups. This is a fans forum but you seem to object to fans it's such a weird juxtaposition. Fans getting fleeced is not just unique to football it happens in music especially where the band are aimed at a young audience.
I've been to Stamford Bridge when the crowds have been 6,000 back in the early 80's. To put that into context that's what the shed holds now so yes the club needs it's fans just like Nemanja Matic needs his.

Matic set such an abnormally high Standard two Seasons ago, that whenever he performs below that Level, People feel like he's the main reason why we lose (single) Games, instead of carrying us from flawless Victory to flawless Victory - Although he still wins us Titles.
So big was his Influence back then, that People came up with Terms like the "Matic Position"
You don't play like that just by coincidence. That's not possible in Football. You are either able to perform a certain Level ore you are not.
And if Matic, fore whatever reason, is not able to release his Magic by his own, it's Conte's Job to help him find a way to do so.
Because, if Conte can't release the best Matic possible, what can we expect from him when it comes to Players who are far less talented than Matic?
