Chelsea Could Now Appoint Shock Manager With Enzo Maresca Expected to Leave Today https://www.givemesport.com/Chelsea-could-now-appoint-shock-manager-with-enzo-maresca-expected-to-leave-club-today/ Enzo Maresca is ‘highly likely’ to leave Chelsea on Thursday (January 1) after a ‘complete breakdown in his relationship with the club’. This is according to a shock report from The Guardian, who understand that emergency talks are being held over the Italian manager’s position at Stamford Bridge. Maresca is no longer expected to be in charge for Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League clash against Manchester City on Sunday. Sources have indicated to The Guardian that Maresca wants to leave the Blues, although it’s unclear if he is willing to walk away without a payoff. Chelsea currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, 15 points behind leaders Arsenal, but December’s results have put Maresca under increased pressure. The west London outfit have won just one of the previous seven league matches. Maresca, 45, was appointed by Chelsea in June 2024, replacing Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge. The former Italy Under-21 international, who played for the likes of West Brom, Juventus, Fiorentina and Sevilla during his playing career got the Chelsea job after guiding Leicester City to the Championship title. While Maresca has enjoyed success at Chelsea - winning the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup titles - it appears the breakdown in relations between him and the club’s hierarchy will lead to his imminent departure. The 41-year-old Englishman, who spent most of his professional playing career with Hull City before managing the Tigers between 2022-2024, may jump at the opportunity to coach one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs. Rosenior has impressed at Strasbourg, who are Chelsea’s partner club, although his potential appointment will depend on whether his current employers are able to find a quality replacement now. Other names that currently among the bookmakers’ favourites include Como boss Cesc Fabregas, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner and Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez. In any case, it feels increasingly likely that Chelsea will now be on the hunt for their fifth permanent manager since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital completed their takeover of the club in 2022.

Again - you're comparing the team then to the team now. Yes - they both have dealt with injuries, but it was a joke at how frequently injured our players were when Pep was here. Even now, with Cole sitting out we have plenty of options. Why don't I call out the sporting directors/owners? Because they aren't going to get every call right. They've actually set us up well with Caicedo, Enzo, Palmer, Estevao, JP, etc. These are all great players. Cucu and James are great at the FB positions. Every team has holes. We have less issues than a whole bunch of teams yet they crack on and do better than us. Man United I can pick holes in for days, yet they are better than us this season... Should we talk about Everton and Sunderland? Do they have a Reece James level player? Cole? Estevao? Caicedo? These owners own other sports teams. All those teams have done is win. Its asinine trying to chat here with people who think all they want to do is flip players. Well... they aren't doing it in any other league. We have two of the best FB's in the world. We have two of the best midfielders in the world. We have Cole Palmer who is one of the best players in the world. We have Estevao who is the best young talent in the world along with Yamal. So a CB and a ST are apparently holding us back so much that we can't even beat Leeds and Bournemouth are they? How about get a decent manager who can put a team together with an actual plan? You don't outplay Barcelona and Arsenal then look shit against relegation teams because of a squad issue. You do get it playing players out of position and having a toothless plan going forward. Ignore it all you want - but when your best players like Reece James and Cole Palmer are saying they don't think the tactics are great (or its leaked - where there is smoke there is fire) - then you should probably take that as a sign. Its like I'm saying something y'all don't agree with when you actually do - because everyone in the match threads says how boring we are. That is a tactics issue. That is the manager. That is not a squad/team buying issue.

We had a season where we went from 10th to 1st the following season given a manager change... and we looked completely revitalised. Inexperience is a cop out. The youngest NBA team won a championship just recently - why? Because they're good enough. On top of that our team is plenty experienced. Played in big finals, CWC, Champions League winners, World Cup winners, etc. We have a better team than Villa - yet they look miles better. We're significantly better than United and Sunderland... yet you wouldn't know it looking at the ladder.

Ah, so the squad matters when it comes to Poch and it doesn't matter when it comes to Maresca? So the injuries to Palmer and Colwill are insignificant this season? Honestly, disregarding the condescending nature of your post, the fact is that you seem too willing to give the owners and directors a free pass at every opportunity. You rarely seem to call them out, and I was curious to know why.

There are marginal gains to be made with a different manager. We need the owners to change their policy and put together a serious squad. Some of our starting players are too young and inexperienced and they want to compete in the toughest league in the world with that squad.

Always remember “We are two windows into a four window strategy” It has now been six windows since they made that statement

🗯💥I compared which coaches Chelsea could sign and am interested to see whether they would also rely heavily on attacking full-backs like Guardiola and Maresca in their formation. ✅️ -Xabi Alonso does not allow his full-backs to inverted; they remain glued to the line in his system. -Rosenior does not allow his full-backs to inverted; they remain glued to the line in his system. -Filipe Luis does not allow his full-backs to inverted; they remain glued to the line in his system. -Nagelsmann does not allow his full-backs to inverted; they remain glued to the line in his system. -Marco Silva does not allow his full-backs to inverted; they remain glued to the line in his system. -Lampard does not allow his full-backs to inverted; they remain glued to their lines in his system. -McKenna does not allow his full-backs to inverted; they remain glued to their lines in his system. -A. Ferreira does not allow his full-backs to inverted; they remain glued to their lines in his system. -Glasner does not allow his full-backs to inverted; they remain glued to their lines in his system. -Jaissle does not allow his full-backs to inverted; they remain glued to their lines in his system. ⚫️Unfortunately, the following coaches also prefer a formation with attacking wingers in midfield, as Pep and Maresca love to do: -Fabregas⛔️ -De Zerbi⛔️ -Farioli⛔️ -Iraola⛔️ -Xavi⛔️ Since I no longer want to see a Maresca formation at Chelsea that only limits players, I would prefer one of the above names and no more inverted managers!

I can't believe this is happening again. Another two years of "believe in process". Maresca won two titles in his first season. Why do you think City wants him? And these clowns fired him instead of buying him a new CB

TheHulk spitting truth. A guy with our offensive firepower can't even get close to a competent offence. "Its the sporting directors!!!" Brentford, Brighton, Bournemouth... all similar goals to us. Man United with all their problems... more goals than us. Get real. Stop blaming the squad. Every team has gaps. We need a CB, a LW and maybe a ST (I'm not convinced seeing as Maresca stagnates any offensive movement). Plenty of teams out there need as much if not more and are competing with us.
-
Are you seriously comparing the current team to the one Poch had, and the injuries he had to deal with? Are we actually pretending to have this conversation. Honestly. Holy balls this forum is ass now.

Seeing Xavi being touted as a possible candidate! I couldn’t be assed to keep track on his management of Barca but seen a few things around the web that it didn’t end well and Barca fans were really not happy with him. Anyone rate his managerial stint??
-
It will be a temporary deal announced mid-season until the end of the season, when they will look for a new, better, ultimate sponsor.
-
No worries by the time the 9th year rolls in they might announce a shirt deal.
-
I think his plan B was to get another CB after the Colwill injury, but honestly he should have just given Acheampong more opportunities ar CB instead of deploying him at RB or leaving him on the bench.
-
Chelsea no longer have the spending power because of how Clearlake have made us fall within fouling of UEFA FFP rules. Havent even secured a shirt sponsor to help amend matters.
-
That sounds like a manager problem. If your going to play a CB with limited passing ability and your obsession/tactic is to have possession of the ball, then that is a glaring hole in your tactical system. We used to have guys like Zouma at CB and the managers didn't really force them to carry the ball out as they knew they had limited passing skills. Maresca should have a plan B for when his 'preferred' CB's aren't available.

💣🔥Maresca and Chelsea could part ways in next hours. Very tense. (@FabrizioRomano)
-
As part of his compensation package, he probably won't. Wish these things were open though. Like the Torres transfer under Ancelotti.
-
The biggest thing about Arsenal recently has been their ruthless buying in the transfer market. That's something we used to do at Chelsea under Roman! From memory, they were all over the Caicedo deal (think it was 75 million at the time) but then Brighton didn't agree to the transfer. They went and got young Mosquera and Hincapie as defensive depth and they already have arguably the best CB partnership in the league. Also getting Madueke was a good deal for them as he won't be starting every game
-
Don't have much hope with Rosenior but least we have that tiny bit of hope he might turn good, with Maresca we have nothing, guy isn't good enough for a top team and never will be.
-
this will be a big mistake
-
lol they said that he is very inexperient and young
-
Trust the process for another 2 years before Liam is sacked … then do it all over again! Fun, Fun, Fun. The only way this ends well for us as fans is the next manager which i reckon will be Liam pulls of a miracle and gets us playing put of our skin and surprises everyone. I see no evidence of that happening with any of the managers on our shortlist.
-
The next yes-man Just hope we don't freefall into mid table.

Liam Rosenoir 😂 Happy New Year Chels!!
