Near-death experiences

Anyone had any near-death experiences? I was only thinking about this because I was having a conversation with a friend about whether or not I'm a religious person. I said that I must be religious, because I've been blessed with an amazing family and wonderful friends, and that the only reason I am alive right now is because I had a miraculous escape from a motorway car accident.

I was only 13, and my mum was driving us back from visiting my nan. We were driving down the motorway when, in the layby, there was a van on fire. Suddenly this cloud of black smoke descended on us, and we couldn't see anything whatsoever. We were travelling in the fast lane at the time, and yet someone in front of us had come to a complete handbrake stop and we ploughed into the back of them. How the hell nothing else hit us is a sheer miracle, and how the hell no-one was even slightly injured still confuses me. I count myself as very lucky to be alive.

I just thought it would be interesting to see if anyone else here has been in a similar situation?

Thankfully so far the closest ive came so far was when i had cramp in the swimming pool deep end.

Ive had a seizure once because of doing something that didnt agree (not related to the swimming incident) with me at-all, thankfully there was no metal poll around or i wasn't on the top of a multi story otherwise i would have been fucked.

I myself have never been in a near death experience but i once pulled a guy out of a massive car accident.

I was on my way home at around 4:00am after watching a Chelsea match and it had been raining. It wasn't raining at the time but the road was really slippery. I was going past a speed camera and a bloke pulled up beside me in a 200SX. As we cleared the speed camera, he punched it, his car fish-tailed about 4 times and then he ended up on the footpath and straight into a telegraph pole landing upside down in somebody's front yard.. I stopped beside his car, got out, and pulled his body out and away from the car. He had a gash from his forehead to the back of his neck so i took off my t-shirt and wrapped it around his head to try to close the wound. The people who's yard he had landed in came out after hearing the bang and called the ambulance. I stayed with him till the ambulance arrived and kept him awake. He had vomited and urinated on himself and with all the blood that he was losing, it wasn't pretty.

After around 10 minutes the police arrived and had the nerve to question me and ask if i had been street racing. my response was "if i had been racing, i would have been in front of him and not seen the accident". The Police officer looked at me smiled and walked away..

I have a pretty fast car which made me do stupid things in the past, but after seeing that accident, i will never speed again.

Nothing really close -but related your post Tomo 91, was swimming some lengths and as I got to the deep end there was a bloke not moving at the bottom of th e pool. Swam down and pulled him up -he'd had a seizure and the lifeguard was reading the paper !

Also similar to gary gordon, was driving in the country and there was a a powerful motorbike in the middle of the road -then i found the rider lying in a ditch making gurgling noises. Just kept him conscious by talking and asking him questions till the emergency services arrived. The cops, were useless, said ''Lets get your helmet off then, can you sit up ?'' Possibly the worst thing you can do in that situation. The third vehicle that turned up just happened to be an off duty doctor, then an ambulance. The bloke survived anyway.

A similar one i forgot to mention, when i was 10 living in Northern Ireland i was on the way to school mum was driving me and her mate was driving her kids infront of us, infront of them was a lorry (kind off) with loads of metal poles and all off a sudden the poles fell off the lorry and hit the front of the car, thankfully the poles (as in pointy sides) were pointing sideways and not directly at that car or it could have been a lot worse for the guys infront.

My brother neary died last year and I was the only one in the house with him, I'l never forget it. Came home from a Karate match and he was fine one minute and the next he starting screaming in pain and blood was coming out of his mouth, Got into hopsital just in time and he was there for a a few weeks, if he had gotten one more kick in his side that day the doctor said he would of died, it was something to do with his spleen. I was snappin, because the referee clearly didn't do his job. I stayed with him in the hospital the first night but he was knocked out on painkillers. Then when he got out of hospital he wasn't allowed to even run for 6 months. My parents won't let him take part in any more matches. It doesn't sound that bad but it still upsets me to think about it!

Yea and like the first thing thats obvious to do is go straight to hopsital but I panicked and just rang my dad and starting shouting down the phone at him telling him to come home. Thank god he got to the hospital in time.

I have a real scary one, gives goosebumps even today. In Mumbai the best mode to commute is trains but during rush hours it is just crazy. I happen to travel to my classes during rush hour and one of those days i caught the train, literally hanging outside with just 2 hands holding the rod while rest of my body suspended with my feet on the rim of the doorway. In between not sure what happened but i slowly started losing my grip and suddenly it was in slow motion that i m losing grip and i cant even do anything because my wrist were locked. I knew in another 5 seconds i would fall off on my back from a running train and i had about 2 more minutes to go for the next station. I knew i had it. And i lost my grip and i must have been suspended in air for that nano second when suddenly i had a hand around my waist supporting me from not falling. He was my fellow passenger who was very in the same state i was but he saw it and quickly put one of his hand around me to support me to again hold on to the rod. I m not religious kind of person but that day i saw actually God in my fellow passenger whom i had not even met before and have never have met after. The next station came, i was pushed inside and i couldnt even thank him because i was in the such a state of shock for the next 30 mins that i couldnt react. But that magical support i would never ever forgot, for me that was the true HAND of GOD!

not sure how near death it was ,,but just after we got married we locked ourselves out of our seconf floor flat . Attempting to walk along a plank to our

bedroom window ,,slipped off backwards ,,,had time to realise I would break my back turned to land hands first .. Worked well except for hitting the side of the marble steps . result ..two broken wrists ,,compoung fractures of fingers ,,,broken jaw and nose ,,depressed fracture of cheekbone ...

don't like heights anymore

I once fell out of a third floor balcony when I was about 1. Missed the pavement by a couple of feet and landed on the grass instead. I guess the fact that I was so young meant that I was totally relaxed when I hit the grass, hence no broken bones or injuries.

My folks still joke today that they caught me on the first bounce. Irresponsible bastards.

When I was about 10 I was playing in a field with really long grass. As I was running along I tripped down a hole in the ground and 3 wasps about 2" long came out and stung me on the back of the neck...Turns out I was allergic to bees and wasps.

I kept on passing out and my sister and cousin had to try and keep me awake. We were about a half hour walk from any contact, but luckily some guy on a bicycle came past and took me on the back of his bike and took me to the main section of the park. The ambulance came and said if it had been 10 minutes more I would've died.

I'm only alive thanks to a 50/50 decision.

I was staying at my Dad's flat (as I pop round to see him occasionally) and it was late. He offered that I stayed for the night and asked whether i'd sleep on the couch or in a separate (messy) room with a mattress. I'd often stay and usually sleep on the couch but that night I chose to sleep on the mattress.

Come 4am, the whole building is shaking and I wake up to strange sounds thinking a war was happening?!? (you know how sounds effect your dreams!). I get up, leave the room to find my dad in a complete trance looking into the lounge which it was completely in flames (half of the flat). I dragged him away and eventually all other residents safely got out of the flats before the fire fighters did a great job in putting it out.

Had I slept on the couch that night I would surely have been asphyxiated and burnt!
