Fulham Broadway 17,311
FB, he signed that contract three years ago and he was superb for two years of it. Can't see your point. If we're going to split hairs it was 2 and a half years ago -still two and half to go. Bloke will be edging 36 then and is clearly not that motivated for 50% of the time now. So.......my point is, it was a shrewd bit of business to ensure the millioms keep rolling in to his bank account, but not so shrewd for the club allowing a culture of complacency.I stilll say players pay at the top level, being the obscene amounts remunerated should be performance related
Madmax 9,219
He is a problem because we don't have a younger player with his qualities. If we had one then he wouldn't be a problem and I must say that it's quite dissrespectful how some people talk about him.Agreed 100%
BomTrett 50
I may aswell add that Terry is there too. His playing time should be reduced for his own sake. Not that i agree with anything else that has been said in this post, but JT is still our best defender, and is not the sort of player that will be thinking of being rested to prolong his career. He'll play until he cant play anymore, and he should stay in our team. True, he's lost his pace, and that seems to be something that is deteriating with age, but he's still our best defender, he reads the game well enough where pace isnt always an issue because he times his tackles right and the opposition dont often go past him. I'm not like a narrow-minded Chelsea fan who believes they should both be automatically starting because they are who they are, but at the end of the day JT has still got a couple more years in the starting XI in him. With David Luiz he creates a good partnership, because luiz has pace and is a fairly, more attacking carvalho-esque player. And i hope this isnt perceived as off-topic, because i'm talking about JT but i feel the point still needed to be made. As well the fact, that if not Lampard, who else you gonna bring in? We float around these big money names and expect to just plonk them in the centre of our midfield and expect them to do wonders, but at the end of the day thats not true. And to say Lampard was our worst player last night?! Wow. I was watching a different game altogether, because from the game i was watching he, and Ramires was the best two players in that first half. And even aside the fact he perhaps didnt make too much impact in the 2nd half he most definately wasnt our worst player. Taking him out of the team would be a mistake, he's struggled this season with injury and its obviously had its effect, but if you want to chuck players out of the team that have underperformed this season, then Roman's gonna have to open up his cheque book because at least 7-8 players have had a pretty bad season. And the debate with young players will always rumble on but throwing McEachran straight into our first team would also be a mistake. I agree wholeheartedly that he needs much more playing time, but as a sub maybe, yeah.Apologies if this is seen as a rant
LDN Blue 7,903
A legend for Chelsea FC. Easily player of the year in 2005, f*ck Goofydinho! But yeah, his first team role must be reduced. A great ambassador for the club, a legend in his own right along side John Terry. A mentor to Josh McEachran, a fan favourite, a potential coach one day. He's been there through all the success and all the heart break. We salute you always Frank Lampard. You will take your place alongside the elite of this club, have stand named after you one day too, they will build a statue in your honour too..Osgood, Wise, Zola, Terry, Lampard, Drogba - The Elite. TomCFC 357
He's been a fantastic servant to the club for eleven years, but I agree that his time is up. Now we need to find replacements.

chrismada9 1,948
Lampard was actually terrible against United yesterday. He virtually just stood around and did nothing.Thing is, he has had to go through a lot of twists and turns with regards to his injury, and he hasn't played enough to be in form this season, not to mention the fact that he is well into his 30s now, which just makes it a lot more difficult for him to bounce back.I still believe in Frank Lampard though! cfcfan17 7
I wouldn't say lamps is finished he can still do it but I do think he should have a role like scholes and giggs let him play in the big games, He's really unlucky as the way he plays is different from gerrard or scholes as they can play as attacking midfielders and playmakers where as lamps is only an attacking midfielder, also because of his position chelsea have no central playmaker only two attacking midfielders which wont help the strikers in the long term, he should for a half and give mceachran a chance in his postion
The Big Drog 1,110
I definitely agree that he should have the Scholes role where he plays some games but at the same time others (by that I mean McEachran) play the other games so that they are gradually being eased into the first team and they should be comfortable and able to play when called upon. Its hardly something any Chelsea fan wants to do, how could any Chelsea fan not love super Frank Lampard but he is 33, his legs probably aren't what they used to be and when we have played in a 4-4-2 it has really put a strain on his attacking qualities. We have to accept that transition for futures sake is necessary and in this case it is necessary.
NattyBlue 44
Nothing wrong with reducing his playing time imo. I love Lampard, he is one of my all time favourite players ever. All good things can come to an end though. We shouldn't be relying on our players of a seemingly older, more injury prone age to play our 50 games a season still. Him and others can easily play for much more seasons to come if managed correctly and having their playing time reduced.

The Big Drog 1,110
Lets just forget his 9 wonderful seasons with us and fuck him off in the summer shall we.Is anyone saying that? Scholes has been wonderful for Man Utd for years now, doesn't change the fact that he is getting on in years and his playing time has been reduced because he cant get around like he used to, the same should apply to Lampard. NattyBlue 44
No knee-jerk reactions like that I don't agree with. After all this time last year...NONE of us would've even dreamt of saying what we're saying atm. It's so odd

It's so oddLast year we scored 103 goals and won the league and cup double, last year Frank Lampard wasn't coming off a 4 month injury at the age of 33.
