The thing I really hate about the poppies/Remembrance Day is how it glorifies war.

Kieran, we are all aware of how you feel about war and anything that even remotely honors those who fight for our countries. Do us all a favor and keep your opinions to yourself, please. I am sick of being beaten over the head with them and refuse to bow down and apologize for being grateful to all those who have laid down their lives for my country and to ensure my freedom (and yours). An ounce of gratitude would go a long way for someone who lives in a country benefiting from those freedoms.

I totally agree I am disgusted that we cannot honour our passed soldiers and celebrate the living. It really makes my blood boil, I am not going to get into a debate about it I have already said my peace but I just feel very sorry for people so ignorant that they would choose not to to wear their poppies or honour the people who risked and risk their lives in the wars. Don't pull out stupid poetry and nonsense. My friend was injured in Afghanistan and it is a shocking 'new fad' to say it's all politics, I'm against war blah blah blah.

However, that specific quote is really wrong. Did the Germans disappear after losing the war? Did the Japanese? LOL!

Life and history books would definitely be different, but you would also definitely be here today!!!

I can see your point but honestly there are a few days of the year I wish people would not chose to fight their political battles. It really hurts when people chose days to honor the dead to argue about whether or not war is right or wrong. Honoring those who defend your country is always right and people should respect that. 11.11 is about remembering those who serve and protect regardless of their country of origin.

I know Kerry, but I wasnt debating if people should honor the ones who fought in the war or not. I have no knowledge nor background to agree or disagree with either one of you. To be quite honest, I really dont care.

I was simply quoting a specific line I found hilarious, because it sounded like Americans, French, Britsh would all be completely decimated if it wasnt for your soldiers. But that is not true at all! Of course things would have gone very differently (and in a bad way) for the Allies, but you would all still be here (like Germany, Japan, etc). I understood she was speaking metaphorically, but it was more of an ironic reaction I had...

I personally would honor Brazilian soldiers if we had entered some big war. I would feel obligated to pay my respects for those who defended me. But that is me in a hypothetical scenario...

I just think people should have their own opinions without the need of arguing with one another. Want to pay your respect? Then fine. Dont want to? Then dont do it. Simple as that!

I understand your point but I also think that you should be respectful and not attack others who desire to honor the dead. It's those who chose to be disrespectful I have a problem with.
