People have very different opinions on things. The people who you spoke to maybe have had issues in the field doesn't mean that you will. Whatever makes it soul crushing in their description and opinion of it might actually be amazing to you. Remember every one is different. If it is something you really want to do I say go for it. It does not make sense to waste time, energy, effort and money to do something that you have little to no interest in. Look and see if there are any internships/practicums etc where you can experience it for yourself and then make a judgement. See if you can sit in a lecture for the course you want to do basically find a way where you can analyze the situation firsthand and not rely on other people's judgement.

Maybe...Does anyone have experience in the world of architecture?

What will I do? I hate the Uni course I'm in and the one I wanted to do, I spoke with some peope with actual experience in the field and it sounds soul crushing.

I finish at uni 3 years ago... I did not like it. It was fun to get drunk all the time and make friends, but what they make us learn was boring. School was better.

My brother works in an architectural firm as a Autocad technician. One of his friend was interested in doing the degree but decided not too since our university does not offer the programme and the expense involved to study abroad was too much for her.

What does he think of it?

He's actually thinking of getting out  but for a number of reasons. The entire construction industry right now has declined so his company has not been awarded with many tenders for the past couple months. He's more interested in computer science, something he didn't really pursue from before since he got into drafting/autocad almost immediately after leaving school after being recommended and persuaded by his teacher. The only thing that might make him stay in the field is 3D rendering. He likes that better than doing technical drawings.

However, when he talks about good architects he's consulted and worked with he always says that those guys have a talent and vision in designing. From their perspective architecture is rewarding in terms of seeing your design "come to life"

My real Elder brother is an Architect. Been working for 6 years now and he is quite happy that he became an architect. Although he is working in an office right now and handling some big clients, he wants to start his own work now. The only thing i can say about Architecture from his experience is, it takes time to settle down in it like a lawyer but once you make a name for yourself, you can be living a pretty good life! He still hasn't bagged any "personal project" and hence is working in an office but he says that while working within the office he has now established contacts with big builders and he could be starting his own work in about 2-3 years time! Some travelling involved as well, within the country as well as abroad! All in all, a good profession if you are patient and can wait for the right moment!!

@spike have you or can you do an internship or co-op? Doing a work experience would truly tell you if you like it or not.

It is worth looking into even if you could do a part-time job at a local firm.

It's all about how you see yourself as an Architect. He knew nobody when he graduated, he went to New Delhi, got a job in a good office and worked his ass off for the first couple of years. "Knowing someone" isn't part of your job, it's what you do for yourself and for your future. You know, like build a good relations with the concerned authorities! Lots of people tend to take Architecture lightly, but it's not! And like in any office, if you want to make progress, you have to stand out from the rest in a good way!
