chrismada9 1,948
Stoch raped the Dutch division to get sold. And then people wonder why we don't keep our youngsters,it is because we will never play them and John Terry being the only players for some time now that was a product from our youth system.if Kakuta leaves or McEchran i will totally lose faith in our management that we can keep quality young players and develop them to be future club superstars.you're absolutely right!! We should take a leaf out of Arsenal's book. We may call Arsene a voyeur and a pedo, but you've got to hand it to him. He's been at Arsenal since 1996, and he's extremely clever at scouting young players whom he knows can cut it. Jack Wilshere, prime example of that. Cesc Fabregas, another example.... Walcott, Song, Denilson, Djourou, Eboue, Ramsey, Gibbs, Clichy, Vela.... the list could probably go on, and you wonder why many say they play better football than us.Not to mention Ferguson's way of handling young players. Hernandez (or "Chicharito" if he's meant to be called) got signed on a pre-contract agreement... Bebe's probably going to be a big striker in a few years time. Then you have Danny Welbeck on loan at Sunderland who turned our defence inside out on Sunday... bet you he'll be a big 'un. And then you have the likes of Rafael and Fabio.Liverpool are blooding N'Gog who is turning himself into quite a lethal striker. "Lucas" when he first joined Liverpool was a young nobody until he was cemented a rotating role in their side. But what have Chelsea done??Spends Spend spend on the world's best players, and being the types of players that they are (they could be 27 or older) you want to play them because they are world class week-in-week-out, and in that time, the youth players don't stand a chance! I would be confident to predict that Man City could land themselves into the same problem in the future, if they spend so much money on players. And what about our young players?? Ermmm... Give Miroslav Stoch a couple of games and then loan him out and sell him.... give Mancienne a long-term deal, don't play him in any games whatsoever and loan him out constantly to Wolves until they say they want to permanently sign him (they've done so already I think)..... sell, I would say a very pacy and quick Scott Sinclair to Swansea (check him out nowadays...not a bad player) .... I don't think we've EVER given a game to Borini yet have we?? He'll be gone soon if that continues .... erm ... Jeffrey Bruma got preferred to by Ferreira against Sunderland who isn't even built to be a centreback, and got casually owned by Welbeck et al. Patrick van Aanholt needs a gme because I don't think he's been given one yet... and even if he had, I don't remember it, with the exception of that 4-3 defeat at home to Newcastle in the Carling Cup because he scored in that game. But my bottom line to all of this is, because we've bought so many superstars (usually old and experienced ones....Ballack, Deco) our youngsters when they get a chance play like they have never had a chance to have any playing time at all, and they're always all over the place... compared to Arsenal, United and Liverpool's youngsters, who can gel into a side and play really nice football. Badboy 1,526
The thing is its a lot easier for josh to make the step up then gael. Gael is a winger/playmaker, young centre midfielders find it so much easier because the game runs through the middle and they have the assurance of support at all times. Young forward players find it much harder because of limited space and area to move into. Look at anderson and nani at man utd, anderson started his man utd career like a house on fire because he was playing through the middle. Nani took a few years like ronaldo and now he has become one of the best wingers in our league. Edited November 18, 2010 by Badboy

"Lucas" when he first joined Liverpool was a young nobody until he was cemented a rotating role in their side. No, just no.I rarely see such bigging up even from opposition supportersThe only club that I'm willing to give credit for handling youth is ManUtd, even then they have had the same policy for over 20 years and Fergie can take risks without having to pay for them. Bebe hasn't shown half of what Sturridge has and you're already saying that he's probably going to be a big, Hernandez has shown good positioning and speed but if Borini played like he did against Villa people here would be calling him shit and claim that he doesn't deserve a contract, Welbeck ripped a defence that was begging to be ripped and he may end up being the next David Jones.Arsenal have achieved nothing with their so called academy products, Song, Nasri and Fabregas aside they are full of mediocre players that were once prospects but would never get into ours or ManUtd's first 11, Ramsey and Wilshere are promising but that's all they are.Livepool would have never played N'Gog if they had a suitable backup for Torres, they certainly haven't blooded any academy kid for years and end up selling most players who can't get a game (El Zhar,Nemeth and probably Pacheco).Chelsea's current academy is relatively new and with the way we've been changing managers for the past 5 years it's no wonder we've had no-one established. We all get so excited about a young player and expect so much that when they don't seem to deliver what everyone was naively expecting they turn against them for no actual reason. It's a complete joke.

Mário César 1,341
I absolutely disagree with Henrique about Kakuta. What would you expect? He's doing his first games and it's normal that he still hasn't showed details. He's not going to go past half a team and score. Don't demand something like that to Gael. He knows what people expect of him and that may affect his performance in the pitch. There are plenty of examples of it. Look at Cristiano Ronaldo. He arrived at United in 2003 and only in 2006 it started to be one of the best in the world. Until then, he was growing as a player and adapting. Now he is what he is.Another example is Nani. He's on United since 2007 but only now he's being truly important for them. You need patience. And only in a few years from now you'll realize the great player he is. Ignorance is bliss for people like Henrique. Even if one day Kakuta wins the Ballon d'Or, that would still not be enough for the likes of him. As long as people like you recognise the potential talent, well, it's all good then :chelsea2:

But how do you think they're able to keep themselves at the top half of the table?? Competing and Qualifying in the Champions League?? Imagine if you take out all the Chelsea superstars, Terry, Cech, Lampard, Essien, Drogba etc, all you had to work with was the youngsters... what would be the outcome?? (bearing in mind that they've not had much of a chance to prove themselves because of us having to use all of these superstars)
