Who would you change?

Just thought i would re-start this thread as firstly i didn't comment before and secondly it is a very important thread in my opinion. I don't want to go into detail on players to bring in, because the club have a better idea on that front than me. But i feel investment is needed now and we are carrying too many players who are not contributing enough or not what we need in our squad. I feel like i have been saying this for too many seasons now and every season in the summer i hope it will change, we have made some decent signings over the last few years - Ivanovic, Zhirkov and Matic are good long term investments.

We really need to look at freshening things up. I think these are the players we should look to move out:

Hilario - Not good enough for a number 2 at a club like Chelsea. We need a top class young keeper to come in and really give Cech a fight, like when we brought Cech in himself he was a young keeper and he forced his way past the excellent Cudicini immediately.

Ferreira - Seems to have long past his usefulness, a big surprise when he got his last contract which was a long one too! We do need a right back to push Bosingwa and allow Ivanovic to play in the middle.

Carvalho - Probably time for him now, especially considering the options we have with Ivanovic and Alex, both of whom are top class and already playing better than Carvalho. Not to mention we have a number of top young centre backs just itching to get their chances, Bruma being the best of these but Mancienne and Hutchinson will also fancy their chances.

Ballack - Despite his reputation it is definately time for Ballack to move on, for me (and i know a lot of people would disagree on this point) i think Matic would offer just as much as Ballack now. Our midfield needs an injection, Mikel, Essien and Lampard are the 3 main in midfield and we need to add to that and shift the rest on. Matic should be used a lot more next season.

Deco - Basically exactly the same as Ballack above.

Belletti - Similar to above. I know there is the argument for these players, good squad players etc. etc. but are they really? Are they offering us more than a player who will come in and fight for a place? Not in my opinion, Younger new blood in to build a future team around is needed.

Also a couple of players i have smaller question marks over are Soloman Kalou and Florent Malouda. Decent enough players but are they the best we could do at a club like Chelsea for the number of games they get?

As i said, as part of this discussion the players to come in is not as important. Certainly we need players with creativity and flair. Also there are the homegrown quotas to adhere to. Yes there are young players we can call upon, how many though are ready for real first team duties, obviously not regular starters, i would say Matic yes - possibles - Stoch, Bertrand, Mancienne, Bruma.

I would like to see us go for 1 big big name to build the future of the club around, personal preference would be either Aguero or Pato...

So basically, a freshen up of the squad is well overdue in my eyes.

For me i agree with most of the above. Maybe the only player i disagree with is Malouda. I think the last two seasons he has been great with us, and alot of people have been on his back. Also i know kalou is disliked by alot of people on this forum but for a player who comes on as a sub he has scored some important goals at times when we have needed him most. But i guess it depends who is brought in to replace him. For me we should be looking to sign 2 or 3 important players next season. Someone who can actually take on a player on the wing with speed and quickly catch defences off guard with a good cross. Most teams have that speedy player on the right. But the thing we lack as a team is a player like Valencia who takes a player on and quickly puts a ball into rooney. We tend to take 10 minutes to cross the ball into the box so defenders can get back and cover the likes of drogba.

For me Hilario, Ballack, Deco, Ferreira & Belletti are becoming too old/slow, injury prone and expensive (Ballack & Deco) for the club, so they should be sold next summer. The other reasons for these players to leave everybody above already explained. Just really hope we are going to see some more of our younger players next season :smiliecap1:

Two things Id like to see at the club. Legs in midfield , you notice it so much when Essien doesnt play , without Essien our midfield is slow....really slow. At Arsenal they have Denilson , Song and Fabregas all of whom are mobile players , at Mna Utd they have Fletcher and Anderson both of whom cover ground , at Liverpool they have Mascherano and Lucas both of whom cover a lot of ground , at Chelsea is you take out Essien we have Lampard , Ballack and Mikel , none of whom are really known for chasing around midfield ( and in the case of the latter two moving in general ) , Id like to see somebody brought to the club who can bring some legs to our midfield.

Also a playmaker , at the moment we just cant rely on Joe Cole or Deco to provide a creative spark consistently , we sometimes lack guile in midfield.

If you could throw in a tricky winger and a young second striker that would be great too.

I've been saying this for months now, we need a clear out this summer, we have to many 'journeymen' and players that are past their best.

Roman, its time to open the purse strings.

Out:

Hilario - for obviously reasons, he isnt good enough

Belletti - too old

Carvalho - seen better days

Mikel - personally, I think he is too lazy to play as a holding midfielder and doesnt offer the team half as much as Essien does

Ballack - past his best, gives the ball away way too much

Malouda - Wingers need pace and quick feet, he has neither

Deco - passed his best

J Cole - I hate to say it as he is a lovely lad, but he has lost his best form and as said, is very injury prone (would do well at an Aston Villa, Everton etc)

In:

A decent understudy GK that will push Cech

Shawcross - a promising young centreback

Muamba - another solid defender

2 decent young central midfielders (Stephen Ireland? James Milner? Lee Cattermole?)

Ribery - his pace and skill would be a real asset

Aguero - he is a real out and out goalscorer (in the Torres mould)

Plus - some young talent

I feel this would leave us with a good balance of experience (Lampard, Drogba, Anelka, Terry, A Cole) and youth, which is what we need I feel as we currently dont have any young, hungry players eager to win trophies.

People like Ballack and Deco have been there, seen it and done it, they really are just here seeing out their playing days on megabucks.

To Go

Hilario - Getting too old

Turnball - Not Chelsea quality

Carvalho - Past it

Belletti - Past it

Ferriera - Past it

Deco - Past it

Ballack - Got one season left in him max and that would be as an sub player

Kalou - Shocking player

To Come In

Asenjo/Neuer/Adler

A decent young defender perhaps Camacho

Hamsik

A decent right winger

Aguero/Pato

To Promote

Mancienne

Bruma

Bertrand

Kakuta

Stoch

And then I turn off football manager...........

Yeah I forgot about Ferreira, seems CA has as well lol.

Kalou is a strange kind of player, I cant really decide if we need him or not.

I would love to see Kakuta get more games in the first team but were in a situation now where we need a full strength team out in every game, perhaps a few sub appearances at home would do him some good.

Mancienne will be part of the first team squad next season without a doubt, as will Bruma and Katuta.

Pato would be an excellent signing, I think we need a combatitive midfielder in the shape of a Mascherano/Gattuso as well.

I guess one thing we might be forced to consider is a new LB if the NOTW get their way and Ashely Cole ends up going abroad, off the top of my head I'd think, Phillipe Lahm, Leighton Baines, Kieron Gibbs.

couldn't agree with you more ...... i remember when i first said that a lot were making fun of me ......

also i would like to highlight how much a player with real skill like ribery will be vital for Chelsea as he will give drogba more freedom as teams right now know he and lampard are our only threat .......he wll give Chelsea real pace specially on the counterattack also he would be a very good option for our midfield to pass the ball to in hard times ... lampard can put players like ribery and aguero using thier pace to 1 on 1 situations with goalkeepers a lot ..... also we need someone who knows how to move with the ball when other opponents are just parking the bus and when we have possesion ...... that will be someone who gives us the edge in big matches when we are better but still we lose ..... i cant imagine losing to inter or man city if w had someone like that in the team......

finally please please please give kakuta and matic thier chances the will do better than a lot of our first team options like kalou joecole and ballack i definitly know that .....

Hillario, cause of his age

Bollocks, hes to slow, he dosent move at all in the midfield

Deco, a genius of a player but just over his top

Belletti, I love his shooting (sharpshooter) but just seems not to be in the plans any more and sometimes semms to be to old for the speed at the EPL

Carv, great Defender, but his time is over and it isnt likely seeing him performe at the standards from 2004 to 2007 anymore

Ferreira, I liked his squadplayermentality but its just over, he cant deliver anything to the team anymore...

Turnbull or Taylor, for another GK at a high standard, like Cudicini was for us such a long time, and keep one of them as the next or 3rd-Choice Goalie, until we get delac back as top class goalie, whats up with jan sebek esk? Thought he should be the next cech, what has happened to him?

Get in:

-Dembele or sessegnon

-Gourcuff

Promote:

Jack Cork

Mancienne

Kakuta

Bruma/Hutch

Borini

a lot of people keep saying that carvahlo is not any good anymore but i still think he is not doing a bad job and i even like him to pair with terry than alex or ivanovic ...... i know most of you will disagree but thats my opinion ....

all who came here and left their thoughts agreed that we need to get rid of 8 or 9 players mainly they are (hilario-turnbull -carvahlo(i disagree)-belleti - feriera - ballack - deco -j.cole - kalou - malouda)

and then promote or get in (kakuta - matic - borini - bruma - stoch - cork - ribery - aguero )

as much as i hope that really happens but lets face it ..... it wont ... because that will be enormous change in the team which i dont think people in Chelsea are ready to do ..... so do we have to get our head to the fact that we are stuck with those old useless players till they retire ?????????

our results lately showed how desperately we need to make changes but do you think ancelotti noticed that or its true that he still thinks we just an off match as he said and that all the players will be back on form very soon and that its good enough for him that we are top of the league even though we are so far from being a good team ......

so keeping all that in mind who do you think will actually leave and who will actually come or get promoted and start getting chances in first team ... ????? and this time i am not asking who do you think should leave or hope they leave .... i am saying that massive changes we all have been recommending will never take place so pick some logical changes this time ......

There is no way we're going to sell 9 players. Not a chance. It wouldn't make any sense to make such wholesale changes when we have a balanced and stable squad. The only players that need replacing are the likes of Ballack and Deco, who should be replaced with the likes of Miralem Pjanic, Adem Ljajic or Riccardo Montolivo.

Adem Ljajic is way to similar to miroslav stoch. pjanic is very similar in style to steven ireland i like him and i think he will be a good player but i think he would hamper kakuta's progress. Ricardo montolivo would die in the premiership, in this league if your an attacking midfielder you must have a little bit of pace, he is as slow as deco !

For real, Joe Cole? He got back from injury not too long ago, and if I'm not mistaken, he played quite well against Inter and he looked like one of the only players who actually gave a shit against Man City.

Joe Cole didn't play against inter ............ and i don't think we can just keep waiting for a good flick or a good pass every now and then to say he is coming back to his form because obviously he is not
