Patrick van Aanholt

Van Aanholt comes back, and does what he does.

If Ashley Young, and Valencia, can play left back for the third ranked side in the league with a defense that has only given up a goal more than us, then Aanholt can quite easily grow into one of the best in this league.

The kid is a machine.

He's really good going forward, but leaks a ton of goals.

Sunderland fans are mixed with him, but at least he is getting significant minutes now.

Just as long as 90 of those minutes are against us at The Bridge.

Started on the bench, came on, and got an assist with the 15 or so minutes he had. We've produced some good league fullbacks this year in him and Bertrand. Obviously he has more ways to go than Bertrand, but he has it in him to be a very impressive player for years to come.

Big Sam puts such a huge emphasis on defensive solidarity i can't imagine him not looking at a left back to replace this guy.

If Sunderland had a competent left back they would have got something against Arsenal yesterday.

Possibly the only defender in the PL that makes Villa's defence look like the Berlin Wall by comparison. He is utterly shit.

Offensively he is probably the second best in the league though. Always looks a threat going forward.

He's got to be played as a winger IMO

Eh, I'm not too sure about that. He may look better going forward as a fullback because he gets a lot more space coming from deep. He might not get enough room as a winger.

He's so bad defensively though there's no chance he'd be in a team I'd pick, but you're prob right
