Van Aanholt to Leicester

Chelsea Football Club can confirm that we have reached agreement with Leicester City for the loan of Patrick van Aanholt until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old left-back has played eight times for Chelsea, six times this season, and scored his first goal for the club against Newcastle United in the Carling Cup in September.

The Dutch Under 21 international enjoyed two loan spells last season, first with Coventry City where he made 20 appearances in a half-season deal, and a month with Newcastle, for whom he appeared seven times.

Leicester, managed by Sven Goran Eriksson, are currently 11th in the Championship, six points from the play-off places.

Is it just me that thinks that PVA is ridiculously good going forward? Like, better-than-Cole good?

We are blessed with some quality left-backs. Cole, Van Aanholt, Bertrand and Deen-Conteh.

I'm hoping Cole and Bertrand split a lot of time at LB this year and then by next year or year after it'll be Bertrand and Pat. Hell, Pat can back-up Mata in a couple of years.

Martinez done well with Tom Cleverly last season but Sinclair didn't have the best of times at Wigan. Hope Pat impresses :)

Martinez has done well with McCarthy and Moses too, Sinclair was restricted to a super-sub role so it's not the best to judge... especially because it was his last loan and he was fed up with these loans.

Wigan are really great contenders this season, like Wolves so it will be a great experience for Van Aanholt, he won't have many difficulties to put on the bench Maynor Figueroa

I would have hoped for a club/manager who would make him more disciplined defensively. His attacking threat is well known but at the end of the day a defender's primary role is to be sound at the back and it is this aspect of his play that lets him down even at Reserves level.

That is why i think he should play wide left as he has the pace and shooting ability to do it for us.

He will have the opportunity to learn a lot beside Caldwell and Ronnie Stam it's for sure.

Enough kidding, Martinez is a very clever manager and tactically he is also very very good. Several times I noticed he wanted his players to apply elaborated tactics in the game, no doubt that with huge potential materiel and even with a team which could be at his level he can do great things.

I can't help to draw a parallel between Moses and Van Aanholt, they are players with huge potential but who has to gain rigor in their play, consistency in a game etc... Martinez used to play Moses parsimoniously before allowing him a bigger time of play this season, it may be the same with PvA who would play increasingly for the first games before he would be near to be indisputable.

I see a lot of improvement in the play of Moses, I don't know why Van Aanholt could not have the same success

For me, all depends to this season ; it's make-or-break for Bertrand. I hope he will play a significant amount of games in order to convince him to stay.

If he stays, I think that the best way not to impeding the progression of Bertrand or PvA is to play one at the LB spot, and the second at the LM spot.

And I do agree, PvA should play on the wing because he has an enormous attacking potential but no defensive rigor whereas Bertrand is well experienced, is in perfect running tactically and is very well balanced between the attack and the defense
