Steve 10,227
United accept Ronaldo offer
Manchester United have confirmed they have accepted a bid from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo's future at United has been the subject of constant speculation, with Real having trailed his signature for the last three summers. Real president Florentino Perez has made no secret of the fact that he would like to lure Ronaldo to El Santiago Bernabeu. The Spanish titans have now agreed an £80million offer for the Portuguese ace and United have given the World Player of the Year permission to talk to the capital club. Ronaldo will head to the Spanish capital to hold discussions with Real and undergo a medical. Real have already snapped up Brazilian superstar Kaka in a world-record deal, but a move for Ronaldo would significantly eclipse that figure. "Manchester United have received a world-record, unconditional offer of £80million for Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid," read a club statement. "At Cristiano's request - who has again expressed his desire to leave - and after discussion with the player's representatives, United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player. "Matters are expected to be concluded by 30th June. The club will not comment until further notice." Sky
EskWeston 696
Unbelievable. I have to be honest i didn't think United would let him go. Madrid are going nuts this summer, if they get Villa as well then that is going to be one hell of an attack! The should really be looking for some defensive options as well though. Fulham Broadway 17,313
Crazy money and Real madrid will probably be trophyless again next term A lot of this cash will go to the bank. The money borrowed by the Glazers to buy United was £550 million odd. Interest on these loans meant ManUtd actually made a loss of £27 million last year. All this talk of them being a rich club is built on sand...
EskWeston 696
Man Utd will be considerably weaker now after this sale. Even though they will most certainly go out and buy a big name player they still will be a weaker side. It doesn't look like Madrid's spending will stop there either, £40m+ for David Villa next in line and then who knows who else..... Real Madrid have turned this transfer window on it's head with the money that has been put out. So much money being talked about for so many players, and potentially a lot more very big signings in the pipeline form various clubs.. Aesthetic Relic 301
I cant wait to hear what Platini will come out with. He's spent the last 2 seasons spouting shit about the EPL big guns throwing their financial weight about and it was bad for the game. What Madrid have done in a couple of days has blown anything the EPL sides have done right out of the water. I hope they win fuck all

Fulham Broadway 17,313
Agree with that. Madrid are still going to ship goals at the back -cant wait for Barca to beat them. And what about all those cnuts who bought duvet covers, lampshades and ManUtd pants with his face on.

Madrid would be very stupid indeed after securing Ronaldo and Villa to not get some very reliable defenders.

EskWeston 696
They're so short sighted they probably havent thought of that one yet Your probably right. Having good defenders has never been Madrid's strong point. And they even underestimated the lynchpin of their last "Galactico" era - Makelele..... But that is one hell of an attack they will have for next season: Kaka, Ronaldo and Villa

They better not go making sillly offers for Cech ! Real Madrid is hugely subsidised by the Spanish government. That said the two strongest leages in the world are the Premier League and La Ligue mainly due to TV revenues , so this is where the worlds best players will end up and transfer fees will be broken.... EskWeston 696
How true about Makalele. Its one hell of a trio of egos to satisfy as well, as well as wages. That said the two strongest leages in the world are the Premier League and La Ligue mainly due to TV revenues , so this is where the worlds best players will end up and transfer fees will be broken.... The money the likes of Madrid and Barca make from TV revenues is a lot bigger than what we would get due to the different rules over in Spain. Fortunately Casillas is very highly thought about in Madrid and spain in general so Cech would not be a target. But someone like Essien or Alex for example could be players that Madrid might want to try and prise away from us. Madrid have smashed the world transfer record 4 times in a row without anyone getting close now. Edited June 11, 2009 by EskWeston
