Not sure if I agree that we don't have an ethos or formation. If you look at age group teams then they all play either 433 or increasingly 4231. If you look at our players out on loan a few of them have gone to teams who also play those formations at least some of the time, e.g. Lukaku at West Brom or Chalobah at Watford.

The younger teams have tended to reflect Mourinho's formation since he left as well, which means they've played in 433 but with a greater emphasis on breaking with speed. In fact it's interesting to see that in the last couple of years both our club and Mourinho's Madrid have moved to a 4231 although there are subtle differences in the way each play.

Our problem has been defensive stability - that's essential to the formation working because you do give your attacking 4 a lot of freedom and you also need width from your full-backs. Possession retention and transitioning into defence quickly are the most important things in this formation and it's something that Mourinho could probably be very useful instilling in our squad. It's part of the reason why I think he could be ideal for us - his ethos informed our youth development over the last 7 years and he could come back and 'upgrade' it, so to speak.

Defensively we're a shambles, there's no doubt Mourinho would improve that almost immediately. He would restore order and hold players accountable. The biggest impact he would have on the team is psychological and that goes a long way at the highest level. My biggest hope is that he wants a quicker and more dynamic back three or four having worked with the likes of Varane, Ramos, Marcelo etc. Our use of the ball from the back is rubbish and we struggle to build play.

I would love Jose. i think we would all love Jose. The media would love it if we got Jose - they want us to get Jose! but the reality is not so simple. Jose left because he wasn't getting the control he exepcted. the only way he will return is if Roman allows Jose the power, which will most likely not happen.

I hope we get a decent manager and i hope we have that manager long term. I honestly think if we still had AVB right now we would be in a good place (dont think we would have won the champions league though...).

Do people think Roman is going to stop sacking managers becasue of a few bad results? or is he going to keep going through them till he finds someone who never loses?

'Cadena SER': Mourinho to leave Madrid in the summer Speaking on Spanish radio, the journalist José Ramón de la Morena has insisted that Real Madrid coach José Mourinho is to leave the Santiago Bernabéu at the end of the season.

De la Morena also shed light on the Portuguese coach's next managerial step, saying: "He has already signed a deal with his next club. Whatever he wins this season, he isn't going to continue at Madrid."

Pellegrini would be dreadful. 3-5-2? Hell naw, that isn't going to work at Chelsea.

Chelsea's main dilemma is that the club has way too many number 10 attacking midfield/deep lying foward types. Which strangely enough the polar opposite was the problem a few years back, everyone and their dog was praying for a real number 10.

LOL what 3-5-2?

I have followed Pellegrini throughout his career, where are getting this 3-5-2 from and if he has used that formation it would be a rarity and was due to special circumstances. confused with Roberto Martinez?

Pellegrini favorite formation is 4-4-2/4-2-2-2 btw.

Bielsa, sorry.

I have also caught a good amount of games of Bilbao over the past two years, i haven't seen him use him use 3-5-2 either. If he has it would be most unorthodox 3-5-2 you have seen.

Two formation that he does like to use that could resemble 3-5-2 is his 4-3-3 and 3-3-1-3. I know he likes his DM to drop deep in 4-3-3, and give his fullbacks the freedom to move high up the pitch. I guess that does look like 3-5-2, but it is not similar to Juve for example who are the best team to exercise the 3-5-2.

If Bielsa did run 3-5-2 at Chelsea, it wouldn't be anywhere as defensive as the hypothetical XI you suggested in the last page.

Bielsa, sorry.

At times Iraola pushes up as a winger, but Bielsa does not format a 3-5-2 let alone play with two strikers on a current basis.

---------------Adruiz----------------

Munian-------------------Susaeta

--------Herrera--De Marcos-----

------------Iturraspe -------------

Aurtenetxe-----------------Iraola

----Amorebieta--San Jose-----

I wouldn't even consider Bielsa as our manager. His methods of football at times are delicate and are often apathetic in terms of creative freedom which is how they have been so infamous last year. That would never happen on a consistent basis in the Premier League without us getting exposed.
