Zola would be a poor choice IMO. He's one of the very best Chelsea players ever, but he's only been managing for a few years and has had limited success. A lot of the keys of management is managing players. Rotating squads through 60 games, keeping people happy, and maybe most importantly, managing the large egos of the players. I'd like to see him manage for a few more years so he can get more experience before getting a shot at Chelsea. AVB was managing at Porto and he still failed because he couldn't handle the locker room. I think having previously managed a fairly big club takes away some risk and having managed for a while takes away more risk.

Also just realised that Deschamps is included in the younger/riskier options. He shouldn't be. He's been managing for over a decade now. He managed Monaco to the CL final. Managed Juventus and Marseilles and was pretty successful everywhere he went. I doubt it will happen because he just took on the France job in the summer and I expect him to keep it until after the World Cup at least.

Yep Zola has previously been quoted saying Roman has always treated him well and a job offer was always on the table as a coach, but Zola only wants to return in the future as manager.

Jose has his beasts of burden that do all the dirty work (Khedira, Alonso, Makelele, Terry, Essien, Cambiasso, Zanetti), his powerful fowards/attackers (Lampard, Eto'o, Milito, Duff, Drogba, Gudjohnson, Ronaldo, Benzema) and his flair players (Sneijder, Ozil, Di Maria, Joe Cole).

I think Jose can do it, but it will be very hard to fit all three of them into a well oiled hard working machine.

I agree about the inexperience. Toronto what would your opinion be on someone like Michael Laudrup?

He hasn't had the opportunity to manage at the highest level but has good experience both on the continent and in Europe, has always set his teams up to play good football, always comes across well in the media and I think his playing career also demands a certain respect.

Zola would be the worst managerial appointment we could make up there with JT himself... When the inevitble bad run happens and he gets fired the backlash would be huge and most likely greater than when RDM was fired. If we are going down the younger route i would rather it be someone like laudrup who is a good manager but wouldn't be too attached to the club and the fans wouldn't be too attached to him.

I heard Le Saux say this on TV, a couple of times actually. Once in an interview I can't remember where and another time a couple of months ago (before our match against Liverpool to be exact) when he was guest on Premiere League Today on PL TV and they were having a look at that game against Liverpool in 2003. Graeme even said that Gianfranco was dying to stay but was too much of a gentleman to show it and instead made it look like he wanted to leave.

Anyway, that sounds incredibly uncharacteristic of Roman to go out of his way to the extent of offering to buy a club just to please one player of his.

He hasn't had the opportunity to manage at the highest level but has good experience both on the continent and in Europe, has always set his teams up to play good football, always comes across well in the media and I think his playing career also demands a certain respect.

Laudrup wouldn't be my first choice, but I think (if Swansea do well the rest of the year) I'd be fine with him. He's been managing for a decade and has a tremendous amount of experience as a player, playing at so many massive clubs. He's also probably one of the best players ever which automatically gives him credence with the players.
