After the events at the Copa America last year, the USA need as much preparation as possible before they welcome fans in their millions next year. I believe they've lowered the prices for the opening game three times. Maybe pricing them so they are affordable for people OUTSIDE of the States would have been smart. Uptake at the lower costs is still not pulling people in apprantly. The pricing I do not feel is an issue as the reductions have clearly not done enough in terms of pulling people in. Real are apprantlly the only team with expected uptake. Some of the minor teams/games of teams that aren't in Europe or South America are also meant to be really poor. Rather as this is a new tournament it should've been held in a location where the locals would've been most up for it to fill the stadiums and build the spectacle. This is pretty much what happened in 1930. The European teams weren't keen and it required Uruguay to step in. You can't reduce prices a week before the tournament and expect fans overseas to jump at the chance. We have no idea how much advertising has been put in place over in the States to actually promote a tournament for a sport which lags behind at least three other sports. I said it when the announcement was made, and I'll say it again - the WC shouldn't be taking place in NA. The USA & Canada aren't up to it, & Mexico has a whole load of crowd issues, from racism to homophobia. I'd be in agreement if the WC wasn't taking place next year. This is effectively the replacement for the Confederations Cup, so it's something we'll have to get used to.
ZAPHOD2319 4,814
They have reduced the price six times now. They are offering students at local colleges in and around Miami 4 tickets for $20. They still cannot put people in the stadium so people that bought the top level seats are being moved to the field and second level seats where the camera pans out to. If only they had done this from the get go. More fans from participating clubs might have made the trip. Has the tournament actually had much coverage &/or advertising in the States? It is getting coverage also from people discussing if Trump’s Ice raids will grab fans here for the games. LAM09

I thought as much. So many big players taking part that clearly aren't getting any attention. You do have to wonder if there will be similar concerns next year.
