🇷🇸 Branislav Ivanovic

I think he is still the presence in the squad. You know the guy who you dont fuck with. The guy who trains hard etc.

Thats why he is getting selected over and over. Because he is professional. Its not that he doesnt give a fuck or anything. He probably still has hunger and desire to play and shows it more than Aina and others.

However he is way past it and it shows on the pitch.

I don't really buy this rubbish about Roman keeping a player in the team because he's a favourite of his. The only thing he cares about is results and I seriously doubt he'd encourage a player who's costing us a place in the champions league and therefore money to be allowed to keep playing simply because he likes him. The managers have a free reign on who they pick.

If Ivanovic starts the next match then at least we'll know where we stand with Conte. I fear this will be the case and we'll have been lumbered with yet another manager who comes from the school of thought that prioritises "balls, attitude, fighters" and other such overly emotional nonsense instead of developing a technically and tactically strong eleven. I hope I'm wrong.

I agree but I bet any money on it, the board tell him he has to start.

I'm getting the feeling he can't be dropped at this point. Not sure what his and Roman's relationship is.

He gives Roman his arse and Roman gives him a job on the pitch even if he gets a red card and 5 own goals he'd still start. It really is getting pathetic.

That would be pretty ironic. Wanting your team to "have balls", yet being afraid of dropping underperforming players.

Mourinho has benched Rooney within two months but didn't bench Ivan in two and a half years.

Maybe he actually is better than the alternatives, frightening thought but hey.

Would only confirm the utter lack of vision of those in charge and the horrible management of the squad. Rarely seen such an obvious liability in a top team. Along with his sidekick Stimpy Cahill.

Edit: Bellerin wasn't a better player than Debuchy when he started playing. But he surprised and started to develop rapidly after getting regular game time. We'll never see that at Chelsea because young, raw players never get that chance. It doesn't always work of course but that's part of the game.

Why do you think Torres played over and over and over again? You think the managers saw something in him? Or do you consider it more likely that there was pressure from Roman to make it work? I believe the latter.

Whose choice do you think it was to employ 'out with the old, in with the new' and ensure that Courtois would be our starting goalkeeper, regardless of the fact Cech still performed better? It wasn't the managers buddy.

Either there is no meritocracy, or the managers are hopeless at picking lineups. Either way it's no good

But Torres was different because we had spent that huge money and wanted him to work. Ivanovic is old and past it so I really don't see the point in the board destroying their relationship with a manager just to see him play. Both situations are completely different.
