Really hope we get de Ligt done quickly (as in this week) before United sew up de Jong. They’re so focused on him for now but if they wrap that up I could see them going hard for de Ligt. He’s probably great mates with Frenkie and with the obvious Ten Hag/Ajax connection, de Ligt would probably give them very serious consideration over us. All of that and United would be silly enough to offer him wages we probably wouldn’t touch.

If we can have Sterling & de Ligt done this week and also finally have complete clarity one way or the other in Dembele’s situation that would be lovely.

De Ligt may be friends with De Jong but he the lad has ambition hence why he would chose us over United regardless.

It feels Ake's rep has gone down since he joined City, however I remember when he left Bournemouth, a lot of fans wanted him and were shocked when we did not trigger the buy back option. Thing is, he has not declined, he just is behind better defenders at City, hence why he doesn't get much game time. In a back three, I think he would be really good here.

The optics just look shit. As you say, he’s behind better defenders at City. A club whose level in the league we’re trying to reach and yet we are going to buy a defender who can’t get into their side?

I was one of those people who was keen on buying him back from Bournemouth before he went to City. But buying him now after he has stagnated in the bench for ages sounds so risky.

I just hope we keep Colwill and over the course of the season he shows he is ready. I really hope Colwill, Conor, and Broja get a chance to prove their worth. Also hope Chalobah keeps developing.

A major emphasis with the Dodgers is getting young players into their farm system and developing them to starting players. I hope that emphasis follows so it is players from the academy to the first team.

One of Ten Hag's first actions in his first United presser was to suck off Harry Maguire.

They invested in Varane last summer and bizarrely are dead set in making Maguire work, CB is the last place they're investing in certainly for the price it would take for MDL.

True, that’s why we’re in the drivers seat for sure. Maguire would be basically impossible to move unless they practically gave him away for peanuts. But if for whatever reason Ten Hag didn’t fancy Varane there’s always a chance de Ligt would be an option if we haven’t sealed it.

Anyone who believes Ake is the answer is severely deluded.

I'm not advocating Ake, but a lot of people felt the same way about Rudiger when he waltzed back into the team when Tuchel came in.

Christensen stepped up, Chalobah stepped up, a 37 year old Thiago Silva looked about 25 years old.

I trust Tuchel and the system he uses to bring the best out of the defence and whilst I think there are better options available I do think Ake's skillset is well suited to a back 3.

Signing Ake wouldn’t be necesserally bad step, depends on what our plans are. Right now we have Sarr as backup CB/LB, he is awful. Ake would be huge upgrade. He is not top player but wouldn’t be worried to have him in the DEF against any team in Europe. Also can play in the midfield in case.

Still, we need one marquee signing like De Ligt, Skriniar or Coulibaly, but Ake would be a noce addition too.

I dont see it with Ake. Unless he will be a squad player.

He was part of one of the leakiest PL defences for 2 or 3 seasons with Bournemouth. How he got a move to City in the first place I will never understand because I don’t think he’s at that level to compete with Dias, Laporte, maybe even Stones. Fair enough he has more chances of playing here but again due to a shortage of numbers and not down to his actual quality if you ask me.

How come people are willing to admit that Tuchel system cover up a lot of defenders deficiencies yet are unwilling to admit that his tactics are an issue for why our attackers struggle.

I think there's arguments about his system with regards to attacking players (especially when we lost Chilwell and James last season) but all of these attackers were inconsistent under Lampard too. They've all had periods of blowing hot and cold under Tuchel which is the most frustrating aspect.

I'm not sure myself about Ake. I see him in a similar way to Kounde in that I think he is suited to a back 3 but I wouldn't trust him to be a centre back in a back 4. I think if we did go for him, he would essentially be replacing Christensen as the utility defender that can cover a couple of the positions and I think my thoughts on it would really depend on how much he would cost.

De Ligt for me is the big one we need to finalise, I think he has enormous potential to grow into one of the best centre backs of his generation. I'm not a fan of paying £80m+ for him but if we could get him for a reasonable price and Werner or a player we're willing to trade then I think it's worth going for.

Not sure what people have against buying off City, or any other great team if the player is on the bench.

With the amount of talent they have, and some other teams, the bench players can be great pieces, or players that haven't gotten a proper chance due to not fitting the current system. Kovacic is a great example of this. I'm sure Salah isn't that good either who was sitting on our bench. KDB too. Why did Liverpool and City ever buy them...

Ake is a nice piece. Not sure if he is what puts us over the top, but clearly a capable player and could shine.
