Chelsea Transfers

I guess for Raheem the sign on fee of wherever he is going next is good enough to make agreeing to terminate worth while.

Curious how it will work in PSR. On paper its a big loss to suddenly materialise, losing a player for £0. Although I know you can file with them for special circumstances to write down player values, not sure what it would be here ("he suddenly got shit" isn't really an excuse is it?)

I read many shit thrown on Sterling, but he was perfectly right in this story. Who would not expect their employer to keep the terms of the contract they mutually agreed just because they changed their mind?

Considering what kind of player he was, his injuries and the fact he was PL-regular since the age of 17, writing was all over the wall that it's a shity idea to give him a 5 year lucrative contract. We got what we deserved. We were lucky Koulibaly agreed to go to Saudis, he would also still be on our books.

Horrible player management once again.. And actually, instead of transfers like Sancho, we could have just kept him around.

He didn't have his prime here but I remember he was always pushing hard and never lazy, even 2022/23 was like the biggest shitshown around here(Potter, Lampard, Abramovich gone, whole squad being replaced after winning CL, etc.).

Why the fuck would we interrupt a great loan for Anselmino where he was comfortable and highly thought of by that club if we haven’t even definitively decided that he’s staying? Sounds like this was completely done by the directors with no real say from Rosenoir and he said yesterday that he hadn’t even spoken with the player yet.

Simply put we don't give a fuck how they are progressing, said it yesterday, it's just a joke if he isn't going to start, and I say start because you don not pull him away from there and bench him, it's criminal. Probably done as a make weight or softening tool in the JJ deal, but even then makes no sense as all the talk for JJ is for the summer and not now.

Meanwhile, Paez going to River Plate on loan..

Apparently he was caught clubbing, drinking, vaping multiple occasions.

Was hoping we find him a nice Champo loan, sending back to South America feels kind of giving up on him.

I'm pretty sure we payed out his whole remaining salary until 2027 in order to terminate.

That doesn't make any sense though. Why would we? Letting his contract expire and have him work until then is far better in PSR and financially in real terms the same. You think cause it was a lovely Christmas gift from the club because of his excellent service?

I don't know wheter it makes any difference in PSR and if it does it's significant difference or not.

I think the clubs strategy was playing hard ball on him by letting him train alone, we were expecting he will get bored and accept a move to another team and take the wage cut as no English team was ever going to pay him even 30% of his current salary.

Perhaps the club finally accepted he will not agree to move anywhere and wanted to put end to this story, not let it circulate for 18 more months. (bad publicity, pressure from Fifpro etc)

I am sure he didn't accept one penny less than he was entitled in his contract.

It should make a big difference because instead of losing a steady amount of money owning him per year, we're swallowing the entire loss on him early all in one go. Doesn't make any sense unless he's agreed to something.

Also, presumably he can discount future earnings from his new club from what he expects from us, because it will net out the same for him. That would include some kind of signing on fee.

Raheem Sterling has left the club after his contract was mutually terminated

Mutually terminated should mine one thing, both agreed to terminate. No benefit for Chelsea to payout the contract, by Chelsea holding it til now forced him to terminate to play. Time was against him (so was the big contract)!

He took a discounted pay-out, per BBC:

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/cm2yp21zjzqo

Raheem Sterling has left Chelsea by mutual consent after reaching an agreement to end his contract early.

The 31-year-old had 18 months remaining on his £325,000‑a‑week deal.

Sterling leaves after three-and-a-half seasons at Stamford Bridge following his move from Manchester City for £47.5m in 2022.

Sterling will receive a payout from Chelsea, while the club will save money as the settlement will be less than the figure of over £20m he would have been paid had he stayed for the remaining year and a half of his contract.

£50m for Strand Larsen to Palace. Fucking hell! I couldn’t tell you one thing he’s ever done and he’s going for £50m!

He has not scored a goal from open play this season in the league and they are getting relegated. Palace are obviously desperate but they should be able to negotiate that fee down.

Nah, that’s literally what they’ve agreed to pay!
