Personal terms done, talks ongoing....Bayer needing the cash after the whole pandemic to keep the club ticking, Kai wanting the move...

It's all the same, he is coming but EL is important to them...agree it all, let him play, we play ball they play ball we get Kai they get the cash.

The unhappy player thing is always overblown I think. Especially with a player so young and especially when he'll only have a year on his contract if he is made to stay. Bayer forcing him to stay just fucks them. They will get nowhere near what we can offer now and they'd probably be watching their crown jewel moving to Bayern where he'd haunt them for a decade or more.

The unhappy player thing is very real. Plenty of instances where the player looking to leave never played at the same level again. Just look at Zaha from this season compared to last. Obviously every player and every situation is different. but even if Havertz is not the unprofessional type and agrees to stay. If he feels he has outgrown the team, he could unconsciously lose motivation and not try as hard which could also hinder his progress as a young player.

Bayer is trying to squeeze us for every penny they can get. If we were desperate to sign him, maybe we would have agreed to their demands but we have enough players in his position and still need to strenghten in others. They on the other hand are obligated to sell now and the player has already asked to leave. We're the only team who can pay close to what they're asking. They're not in a position of strength at all. Forcing him to play in the EL is a tactic to get Marina to offer more.

I just think back to us with Hazard. From everything I've seen and read Havertz seems like a quiet, shy, and reserved dude. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who will pull a Diego Costa or Courtois and refuse to turn up and train or kick up a massive fuss. Like Eden, I think if Bayer says they will not sell him this summer he'd just get his head down and play the next season knowing he'll move next summer.

He's not nearing 30 with one last big move before he starts to wane. There's no real pressure for him to have to move now.

The thing is though, Havertz made his wishes about leaving clear to Leverkusen already a year ago. Or at least that's what the reports are saying.

So if that's true then it's more a Hazard 2018-19 type of situation when the club had already convinced him to stay another year the summer before and he was happy to do that with the promise of a move the following year, but what would've happened if the club still refused to sell Hazard a year later? Same way Havertz might not be happy if he's been promised a move this year and Leverkusen were to go back on their word.

It's all about the EL and always has been.

Tbf if it doesn’t get done this summer it just takes a bad season from him and they could potentially lose more than 25-30m euros off his price tag. Just get it done. 70-75m euros rest in add ons. If they want him to play EL let him, heres hoping Rangers can put one over them and knock them out 🤣

This deal being dragged out is to be honest not surprising at all. I would not take it as something to be concerned about.

There is no clause, Leverkusen does not need money and wants to keep the player. They hold all the cards here, and Chelsea knows this. It was never going to be a simple negotiation.
If Chelsea believes that they can save 10-20 m or get a better structured deal by playing this longer, they will 100% value that higher than Havertz having a few more days in training with us.

Leverkusen is of course not completely invulnerable here. Havertz does not a long time left on his contract, and is apparently very interested in joining Chelsea. There is a risk that the player will be very unhappy with the club, and that his value next year will fall heavily due to the contract only having one year left at that point.

There is also the EL competition. Missing CL is of course a disaster for them, and EL is the last chance for them to get it. They will not want to lose their best player before they are finished.
My guess is that there is some heavy negotiation surrounding this issue.

Overall it is a bit of a "who blinks first" situation right now. Both sides can afford to wait a few more weeks, but the longer it goes on the more of a risk it becomes. They most likely know this, and are trying to find a compromise, which will take more than one meeting.

If you think of recent high price deals such as Maguire, Mbappe, Pogba, Griezmann, Coutinho etc they all dragged on for quite some time. These kind of high price transactions should never be rushed, even though fans like us would love our new toys asap.

I think Leverkusen will be due to play inter Milan in the next round , I doubt they have the wherewithal to progress further than that

Yep they will play Internazionale or Getafe.

Getafe were in horrible form since the La Liga restart (only 1 win in 11) so shouldn't be that hard for Inter to qualify. That QF game for Leverkusen would take place on Monday 10th August.

Are they doing 2 legs or 1 off neutral?
