I don't think him having scored 6 penalties does in any case support this laughable claim for him to win Ballon d'Or. It is more testamenent to our forwards' incapability. Also Jorginho also missed 2 which makes it quite an average pen record for the season.

Anyone who really thinks there is a chance Jorginho wins this needs to get their head checked.

Chelsea star makes Ballon d'Or admission after starring at Euro 2020

The Italian midfielder has established himself as a key player for club and country in 2021

Jorginho insists he doesn't think about winning the Ballon d'Or despite lifting the Champions League with Chelsea and starring for Italy at this summer's European Championships.

At the turn of the year, the 29-year-old's future at Stamford Bridge was uncertain. Jorginho wasn't a guaranteed starter under Frank Lampard, who favoured a 4-3-3 system with N'Golo Kante as the deepest of the three midfielders.

The arrival of Thomas Tuchel instantly transformed the Italian's campaign, however. Jorginho went from the substitutes' bench to the starting XI and established himself as a key figure in the German's 3-4-2-1 formation.

Where he really stood out was the Champions League. Throughout the knockout rounds, Jorginho produced composed and tenacious performances alongside the indefatigable Kante and Mateo Kovacic.

"Jorgi is a bit more the strategic guy who helps us in the build-up and he makes good decisions and helps us to escape the pressure," Tuchel said in April after the former Napoli midfielder had shone against Porto.

There's little doubt that Jorginho produced the best football of his career for Chelsea during the second half of last season. Even his detractors, of which there remain many, accepted he played a key role in helping the Blues finish in the top four and winning the Champions League in Porto last month.

He has taken his fine form into the European Championships with Italy, who have reached the quarter-finals of the competition with relative ease having finished top of their group with nine points and overcoming a stubborn Austria side in extra time at Wembley.

There is the genuine possibility that Jorginho ends the summer as a European champion at both club and international level. And that success would certainly put him in the conversation for the 2021 Ballon d'Or, the award given to the standout player of the year.

Yet Jorginho – who has just two years remaining on his Chelsea contract – says he is not motivated by the potential of individual glory. Instead, he is focused on celebrating any success with his teammates.

“I don’t think about it," he said during a press conference at Italy's training base, Coverciano. "Everything that is happening is the consequence of hard work.

"My priority is the group and celebrating together with my teammates and friends. This is more beautiful than celebrating alone."

While Jorginho was keen to play down his chances of clinching the Ballon d'Or – which has been dominated by both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo over the last 15 years – his Italian teammate, Lorenzo Insigne, wasn't as bashful.

I think the criticism is over the top, but at the same time, I do feel for him sometimes when no one ahead of him makes any kind of run or movement worth of anything but a side pass. I'll be interested to see what formation we settle on next season, as to what midfield we should be running with ie. if we go to a back four or stick with a three.

It'll be a 3.

Been nothing short of outstanding throughout the Euros so far.

Jorgi is an excellent player in many facets of his game. His only issue is that he has flaws that are well known and cannot really be covered (pace and physicality.)

As I have said before, 80-90% of the time he is an excellent player. The only issues come when we end up in PL 'ding, dong' games in those 10-20% times where his flaws get exposed.

If he played in Spain or Italy, no one would really ever talk about this as he wouldn't have these sort of games as much.

we all laugh at Ballon d'Or talk by the Italian players, but holy shit

he has been the best, or damn close to the best player at the Euros IMHO, and his stats this Belgium game are insane

◉ 71 passes attempted ◉ 70 passes completed ◎ Most #ITA interceptions (3) ◎ Most #ITA possession won (9)

IF this happens, Dusan Vlahovic is still probably still on the table, but if CR7 leaves, for sure (95% IMHO) he is gone to Juve.

TRANSFER NEWS - CRISTIANO RONALDO'S AGENT APPROACHES JUVENTUS OVER CONTRACT EXTENSION - REPORT

https://www.eurosport.com/football/transfers/2020-2021/transfer-news-cristiano-ronaldo-s-agent-approaches-juventus-over-contract-extension-report_sto8405132/story.shtml

Cristiano Ronaldo has asked Juventus for a new contract, according to a report in Italy.
The Juventus star has been the subject of transfer speculation since Portugal were knocked out of Euro 2020.

Ronaldo was tipped to leave Juventus in search of a new challenge, but Gazzetta dello Sport claim the forward’s agent has moved to dispel rumours his client could be on the move.

Always wary of Serie A hot shot CF's. Needs to do it for 2.5 years before I would be interested. Remember Piatek?

what even is Real's footy style lol. old men lumping a ball to benzema maybe.

they seem to dislike double pivots, they basically rely on all-action man Casemiro to do most of their MF dirty work

can you imagine Jorginho and Modric paired if Casemiro is not available

eek

Kroos or Valverde (capable of it) would have to do a tonne extra legwork

they really have digressed to this

good call

and they are SO fucked atm if Benz goes down

their squad is so hollow and will only get worse barring massive moves

Thibaut Courtois  (without him, they would be so fucked)
Andriy Lunin (so untested)
Raphaël Varane    (perhaps gone as well, which would be a disaster unless they replace him with an equal level CB, I made a list in the past of the only CB's they would likely move for, it is not a large list and all are crazy expensive and/or hard to pull)
David Alaba   (barring a transfer in, and especially if Varane leaves, he is stuck at CB)
Éder Militão  overrated, I so do not rate him (RM plastics claim he is a top 10 in planet CB, LOLOLOL)
Nacho Fernández   overrated (another one the plastics think is godlike)
Jesús Vallejo   pure dregs, he could not get minutes at Wolves, ffs and was sent back early
Ferland Mendy   decent LB, but limited offensively
Marcelo    rinsed
Miguel Gutiérrez    youth player
Daniel Carvajal   had a poor year for him, and unlike many, the Plastics are on his arse hard
Álvaro Odriozola   dregs, major bust
Casemiro (only DMF in the squad, but is a top 3 in world traditional DMF)
Fede Valverde  (great young CMF)
Toni Kroos  (may retire after this coming season)
Dani Ceballos    dregs and will be sold
Luka Modric   (soon 36)
Martin Ødegaard    (up for sale, but may stay as ZZ left)
Isco   (turns 30yo this season, is a shadow of his former self)
Brahim Díaz   (meh)
Eden Hazard    (enough said, injuries have ended his career at top level more than likely)
Vinícius Júnior    a bust so far
Marco Asensio    never came close to his potential so far, meh
Rodrygo    a bust so far
Gareth Bale    (when is tee time? LOL)
Takefusa Kubo    (youth player who has not taken it up a level whilst out on loan so far)
Lucas Vázquez  (the very fact he was one of their best players last season tells it all, plus he is now 30yo)
Sergio Arribas  youth player
Karim Benzema  (they best pray 10,000 hail Mary's he stays healthy)
Luka Jovic    dregs IMHO, a bullet dodged   also up for sale
Mariano Díaz  dregs and up for sale

then these 2 come back in summer 2022 from long term loans

sub zero chance I would swap squads with them, I would be going fucking BONKERS if we had that lot

Italy players believe 'The Professor' Jorginho is a contender for the Ballon d'Or after his stellar campaign with Chelsea and his country... Roberto Mancini has built his impressive team around the midfield pass master

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9755697/Italy-players-believe-Jorginho-contender-Ballon-dOr-stellar-campaign.html

Jorginho has emerged as a Ballon d'Or candidate after a stunning rise during 2020-21

Few players in the Premier League divide opinion more than Jorginho but Italy coach Roberto Mancini has no doubts about the man they call 'the Professor'.

In three seasons at Chelsea, Jorginho has won the Europa League and the Champions League yet still not everybody is convinced.

While nobody would question the 29-year-old's intelligence or passing ability, doubters point to his lack of pace and what they deem his safety-first approach.

He was signed under Maurizio Sarri and never entirely convinced Frank Lampard before growing in importance again for Thomas Tuchel. But for Italy, who approach their first major semi-final for nine years, Jorginho is indispensable.

No player has made more appearances in Mancini's three-year reign and he is key to Italy's possession-based 4-3-3 system. It may raise eyebrows in England, but Jorginho is regarded so highly in Italy that team-mates and media believe he is a contender for the Ballon d'Or.

'It is not up to me to say who should win it, but Jorginho would deserve it,' said Italy forward Lorenzo Insigne, who played with Jorginho at Napoli from 2014-18.

'It's correct that people are talking about him. He has had some brilliant years at Chelsea and we are proud to have a player like him in our team. We call him the Professor and he is a great player.'

He is known as the 'professor' among his Italy team-mates and his knowledge is proving vital

Jorginho's display in the 2-1 quarter-final win over Belgium highlighted his importance.

Whenever an Italy player needed a passing option, Jorginho was there. When Jorginho had the ball, he didn't hang on to it for long. At times, it felt as though he was manoeuvring his team-mates around the pitch like remote-control cars.

'Honestly, I don't think about the Ballon d'Or,' said Jorginho. 'My priority is to think about the team because celebrating with your friends, all together, is much better than celebrating alone.'

If he does climb to the top step of the podium, he will have done it the hard way.

Born in Brazil, Jorginho — full name Jorge Luiz Frello Filho — left his hometown of Imbituba aged 14 to enrol at a football school more than 100 miles away.

By 17, he was playing for the academy of Italian club Hellas Verona where he lodged with other young players in an ancient monastery.

'I called my mum, crying and saying I wanted to come back and give up football but she just refused. So thanks mum, thanks dad for that because they have played a big part.'

Having survived those experiences, a Wembley semi-final will not worry Jorginho, though he will be keen to improve on his record there of two wins in eight games in the last three years.

Whatever he achieves in the remainder of Euro 2020, Jorginho will never convince everyone at Chelsea.

Yet even if Italy fall to Spain on Tuesday, nothing will shake Mancini's faith in the Professor.

He lifted the Champions League this season and team-mates feel he is among the world's best
