Chelsea wideman Davide Zappacosta is keen to leave the club and return to Italy before the summer transfer window closes on Thursday, according to The Sun.

The Italy international full-back has struggled to make a consistent impact at Stamford Bridge since signing from Torino, with a lack of regular first-team football at the Blues.

With Cesar Azpilicueta the first-choice right-back at Chelsea and an important man for the Stamford Bridge outfit, Zappacosta has been resigned to appearances from the bench and in cup games.

The report suggests that the Italian wants to return to Serie A and has his eye on completing a deal to move back to his homeland this week.

From Chelsea’s perspective, youngster Reece James is seemingly set to have his breakthrough season and provide competition for places in the Blues first-team squad.

However, the report suggests that Lampard is reluctant to allow Zappacosta to leave given that the youngster is recovering from injury and the Italian being sold would leave the club short at right-back.

Honestly I dont think we should wait to that late because inevitably, wait and see a deal for him will collapse or something or a club will try and get him dirt cheap and it will be rejected. I get being short but again, if it comes to the end of the window and hes still here, like Bakayoko and maybe Kenedy, chances are it will be another guy we will have sitting about costing the club money when he clearly isnt in Franks plans, where as Reece James obviously is one player he sees as a part of his squad. I do hope we manage to bin at least 2 of Bakayoko, Kenedy and Zappcosta.

However, considering the whole Luiz situation and the fact that we have only 3 fit CBs right now, Azpi might be tried out as CB and therefore more RB cover might needed

If we offload him today/or in late august/ it means that the injured ones are ready to take his place over.

But ok, keep him as an emergency backup but don’t play him please. Seems like a nice guy but gosh this is not his level.
