Nicco 927
Good to see him back in the team, for as shit as he is, he still has something to offer at least until we upgrade. killer1257 and Vybz Kartel
killer1257 3,282
I think he was our worst Player but he at least gave us the pen. But he has a very low Football IQ. There was a Situation where Spurs could have gotten a penalty Gesendet von meinem SM-G920F mit Tapatalk

Problem is, he's good in a back 3/5 where his defensive flaws aren't so obvious and he can focus on going forward but he's totally hopeless in a back 4 when he's tasked to do with attacking and defending. Vesper

However he shouldn't be playing (in a four) against top teams agreed. Vybz Kartel and Fernando

Otherwise, we need the entire team to turn up and dominate these smaller teams so Alonso won't be a liability for us. Don't think we want that, do we? Having 2 FBs like Liverpool do will be ideal.

Bournemouth, West Ham, Aston Villa didn't really do it, did they? Newcastle came and sit back for 0-0 but those 3 sides sat back and tried to play on the break, maintaining some sort of offensive threat. We aren't at the level where we "forced" teams to just sit back and defend for 0-0, like Man City in past 2 seasons. If Alonso's really worth the risk, we wouldn't have heard of rumors about us wanting to sell him or buying a new LB. And moreover, he turns 29 on December 28. A new replacement is needed ASAP! I think what I'm trying to say is, if he's chosen over Emerson to be the new guys back up I won't be too upset. He'd be an ideal rotation guy if we have say Newcastle at home in-between two CL ties with Barcelona. Vybz Kartel and Stats

Between Alonso and Emerson, I'd rather keep the latter. Has more years left in him than Alonso. Besides, we need competition and Alonso isn't going to provide it. ja1
NikkiCFC 8,324
We have 5 clean sheets this season and 4 of them came with him in the squad. He's not that much bad defensively comparing to Emerson. Vybz Kartel

Jase 43,479
Don't know why people keep on finding reasons to justify Alonso's inclusion in the XI. Sure, he can do a job here and there and in a back 3/5 but if we want to get to where we want to, he's not the player to help us achieve that. ja1

If we want proper competition at left back then we have to get rid of both and sign two new players as neither do or ever will cut it playing regularly. That'll likely be the case but I doubt we'll sign 2 new LBs at the same time. We'll likely sign one next summer and then another one in 2021. But between the two to choose as back-up, I'll take Emerson. Younger than Alonso, which means he potentially has room to get better (we don't need a snail in the team!) and is on lower wages than Alonso (I think).
NikkiCFC 8,324
I'm just stating facts. I'll be cool with Emerson being Chilwell's replacement from next season.
NikkiCFC 8,324
But this is so funny to me. Stats in the PL : With Alonso starting: Played 6 - won 6. Without him: played 12 - w4 - d2 - l6 Vesper, kellzfresh and 11Drogba

I agree with you, his also our most clinical player, and that Emerson chance against Bournemouth would have been buried if it was him, at this point in time I would rather have Alonso at the back than Azpi playing LB, it totally kills us when we have a right footed full back. Tomo
