John Terry

Won't argue about his awful performance, but I still think that he organizes our defense very. Whenever he's out, our defense looks a bit dismantled.

And whenever is in, our defense has a weakling in the inside. It is time to put our trust in Luiz's and Cahill's hands, and to prepare the future. Nowadays, Terry gets raped by any players with a decent pace/speed and who knows to dribble. Last year, he had a pretty average season and with many shocking performances (Liverpool away, off the top of my head). His pre-season and Community Shield game were bad. For an unknow reason he passes under the radar. He needs to be phased out and should only start the odd games.

The situation becomes more and more to look-a-like with what happens at Loserpool and Carragher. We need to prepare the future and try out to sttle the Cahill partnership, and it this partnership doesn't work out greatly, we should and try with Bruma (Kalas might be a bit too young) or with a very good CB we would buy (the proposition of DYC about Hummels is sweet).

We just need to pick and choose when we use him. Yeah he might be slow and can be beaten off the dribble but, there is no other player I would want in the game if we were parking the bus and defending for our lives.

Also does anyone else notice that he slips a lot? Seems to lose hit footing quite often, maybe he needs new cleats?

I wouldn't go that far. Terry is still a better defender than both D. Luiz and Cahill, who are both solid but nothing special imo (that's the way I see it that is).

Just look at his performances at the Euros. He was one of the better defenders that tournament as he's still a good defender. It's just his inconsistency issues and that's why we should be looking for a replacement as we really need a world-class option at CB.

I agree about most of that. I do think that he should start to be phased out of the starting XI. I was saying, however, that we should find a replacement to his role as organizer of the back 5. Don't think Luiz can fill that role. Maybe Cahil can after learning a few things from JT.

He played well with england defending deep and getting men behind the ball. He plays this superbly for chelsea too as people cannot get in behind him with pace.

However as we look to play more offensively this season, we will not be looking to drop so deep. This creates space behind terry which makes him extremely vulnerable. Against the big teams he still has a role to play with his experience but against smaller teams looking to play us on the counter at pace, i would choose luiz and cahill at the back.

Good point. Though I think without Terry we lack organization which still makes us vulnerable at the back.

Top priority should be getting a world-class CB.

Just look at Kompany's effect on City, Vidic for Utd and many other examples in the past.

Terry's organisation and leadership is second to none although in the barca away and bayern games it showed we had others with the mettle to step up in the big games and lead by example, particularly ashley cole.

I would love to see how Cahill and Luiz develop as a partnership and as they gain more experience playing for a big team. Especially Cahill who has only had 6 months at Chelsea, and a handful of England caps and european matches. Remember that Vidic and Kompany were not brought as world class centre backs but developed into them at united and city. I have hopes that Luiz and Cahill can similarly follow suit.

i agree, people are over-reacting big time! we were down a man, and RDM waited wayy to long to sub someone in. he had a bad game, so what?! i never knew a CS was career defining. how many times has he saved our asses?! but no that doesnt count does it, only the one game we played vs man city with 10 MEN! and dont throw that "we beat barca crap w/10men" becasue we dont have the same players for that sytem. last time i checked we bought these players so we could play attacking football, not for parking the bus when we go down to 10 men. also, that was our game-plan (parkin bus), it wasnt our strategy for vs Man city and when you loose the players for that system, and then dont gameplan for that system how are you supposed to pull it off?! and we lost 3-2 we didnt get blown to bits, so that to me is a respectful score-line when down to 10men.

whats funny is once he scores first goal or makes the last ditch block to save us the 3pts like he always fukin does week in week out, they will praise him and hail him "Legend" and "cpt Fantastic" etc. etc. to say "he's past it" is just shameful. how anyone could turn on a captain like that, is beyond me.

The way that article is written it makes even supporting Terry sound immoral. Disgusting journalism.

Absolutely.

The unwritten word in TV, newspaper 'journalism' is that Terry is an out and out cunt, and to air an alternative view is akin to being in a satanic paedophile ring
