In that article they say that the buy out clause is 24M€, the player want to play for us because he will have a salary of more than 4M€/season, and the good relations between clubs and the opinion of the player can make us pay less then the value of the buy out clause,

Would you refuse a three-year contract worth €4.5 per annum at 29?!

Especially with history of injuries. Might as well take the safe option for your career :D. I hope he doesn't pick up many injuries here though.

Good relation after we are about to get 3 of the most important players in their 1st team LOL, doesn't matter much that we loan them Courtois for 3 seasons.

According to his agent, we are interested in Luis but Atletico does not want to sell him. His release clause is 24 m.

They don't have a choice if we trigger his buy-out clause.

Why buy him? In a position where pace is important, he can only get slower as he is 29. Very strange signing IMO

There seems to be a dearth of decent options. Apart from Coentrao who seems a bit of a long shot and probably expensive, the other options seem to be youngsters like Moreno, Shaw and Rodriguez none of whom is all that proven or cheap.

It's not like we have an aversion to buying young players in that sweet spot of early-20s (Schurrle, Azpi, Hazard etc.) but there simply don't appear to be many out there. As it is we're probably getting the best one currently available. Sometimes it's too easy to get caught up in 'the future' (I'm probably as guilty of that as anyone) but two-three years is a long time. That's a lot of weekends, a lot of matches and a lot of matchday threads to post comments about how good Luis looks.

If we get three years out of him then that's only 5 months less than we got out of David Luiz. It's a deceptively long period of time.
