🇪🇸 Diego Costa

I think they will sit down and come to a handshake agreement. Diego will apologize and behave the rest of the year, help us win the league then in the summer IF china is real he will go there and get paid. Its a win across the board. Diego gets more money than he can count, we get a HUGE transfer fee for a 29 yr old striker with injury issues who doesnt even want to be here. and Conte is a PL title winning coach in his first year, with 140 Millions pounds from Chinese sales PLUS however much Roman wants to spend on top of that. He can go on a shopping spree in the summer and build the juggernaut he wants to.

I cba if you two thing football is only about scoring then you are wrong.

Remember how great we were when we had Torres and  Ba with their great hold up play? A striker has 3 responsibilities, each weighted differently: 85% is to create goals (especially on a countering team like us) and Diego has been the most Clinical #9 in Europe all year. 10% is probably hold up play and he's been average at this. But for some reason you seem to think this is the most important job a striker has.

The other 5% is defending set pieces.

you just made me feel better about this whole thing with your post!! hope it plays out like that! for me, in the absolute ideal scenario, diego apologizes, everyone forgets about it and he stays for 3-4 more years without any drama and we win plenty of leagues and cups with both conte and costa but that seems farfetched at the moment

Thing is, I don't think it's gonna happen that simple. It seems Conte sees Diego has 100% in the wrong, Costa has to apologize but that alone will probably not fix the entire situation.

Conte seems to be really big on respect and that seems to have motivated the guys this year. In the past you'd see Chelsea just play on first gear for so many games, but this year that really happens. And I think it's the whole respect thing with Conte. He can't just throw that away for Costa.

100% I completely agree, I think Diego will have to fight to earn contes respect back of course. But Conte is a smooth operator and also knows that he needs Diego to truly shut down the title in the next month. It reminds me of the story about Conte yelling at GiGi Buffon who brought up Bonuses before a game and Conte LOST it on him even though they had already won the league.

it is all about winning and respect. They will work it out for the next couple months I think. Diego has created so much good will with his play and improved attitude it would be an absolute shame to destroy all of that so quickly.

It is also great to see other players and management seemingly backing the coach and not the star player. Love to see that

Why do you say we dont ?

We just aren't a club that top players magnate to and never have been. You never see the top players come out saying I dream of playing for Chelsea do you.

This may change in the not too distant future with a new generation growing up having watched us as winners tho..I see mamy more 'foreigners' wearing our shirts when I go abroad on hols etc. So a combination of marketing and us winners under Roman will have made some millenians support us which means some will be professional footbalers growing up supporting us which because we wasn't in Europe often before that, peeps that will have mainly seen us were English.

Not many players grow up wishing to ever play for Chelsea...

If he goes its not such a big deal

Oscar went for 60 million, so Diego would be at least 100 million, chuck in Mikels 20 million or whatever he went for and the Board have 200 million burning a hole in their pocket -Griezeman, Sanchez whoever they fancy is an option, so I don't see it particularly as a negative.

That said I see him still here when we lift the trophy....

Five Diego Costa flashpoints that can give Chelsea hope for a reconciliation

1. He wanted to leave Albacete after just 45 minutes

2. He was benched after rowing with an Albacete teammate

3. He threatened to leave Albacete when Martinez was sacked

4. He had to be talked out of firing Jorge Mendes

5. He turned up late and overweight at Atletico demanding to be sold

In the summer of 2009, weary from joining a new club on loan every year, Costa returned "10 days late for preseason training" with Atletico and "six or seven kilos overweight", according to Pitarch.

"The first thing he said to me was, 'Why should I bother? You obviously don't really rate me, and I'd be happier if you'd just let me go,'" Pitarch told Guillen.

Costa also informed Pitarch that he would like to join Vitoria in his native Brazil, and instructed him to begin talks. The Atletico director responded by drawing up a new long-term contract, which his headstrong striker eventually signed.

"It's unfortunate, but it's just the way he is," Pitarch told Guillen of Costa. "He sees red for 10 seconds, and then he calms down and turns back into the lovable guy he is, ready to listen to sense and make amends."
