Madmax 9,219
For that to be true, journos would have to be writing new ideas in their articles and then people would read those articles and adopt the opinions. But that's never the case. The vast majority of the articles in papers are just recycling of what everyone is saying with slight variations based on personal opinions and biases. The influence of the general consensus on what is written in papers is much more than the influence of papers on the general consensus.People don't want to read new opinions that they don't already have. That's very scary for them. They want to read journos write what they already believe is true. Anything to sell papers. Very, very rarely. You're suggesting that people read informed, articulate articles and make judgments accordingly based on reason. They don't.People tend to read newspapers to reconfirm their pre-existing biases. Sports journos tend to just write around narratives that are already out there so people will read their articles and nod along. Occasionally you get journos who write contrary pieces to be different and gain attention that way.Hmm, come to think of it, you both are making good sense and are probably correct. I'll have to keep a keener eye on these mechanisations.Sorry Choo Choo

Chelsea Legend 11 4,062
One thing that I'm fully intrigued by is the boom/bust aspect of this signing. We essentially got Costa at 32M and about a year or two before, if he continues to progress, that price doubles. It is an interesting risk and also the type of move that could look genius in a few years. We were rumoured to be in for Cavani who went for €64m and also Falcao who went for £51m, these guys were expensive because they had at least two years of playing at an elite level and were into the prime of their careers. With Costa turning 26 in October, we get him right before he potentially becomes a world beater! Falcao's move to Atletico was his breakout year and Cavani's was his move to Napoli, with Costa I will be paying close attention to whether or not he continues with the pattern set out by the aforementioned.Firm believer if we get 75% of the player he was in La Liga we will win the league quite comfortably. Barbara 15,149
Piece by a fella on twitter. Really good read http://plainsofalmeria.co.uk/2014/07/02/diego-costa-walk-the-line/This is what gives me hope: “fantastic capacity for occupying four defenders on his own. He has this trick of not really looking as good as he actually is. “[…] doesn’t look particularly quick, or technically that good, but he is far faster and talented than it seems. Sometimes it seems that he is one step away from losing the ball, he doesn’t appear to have it under control, but he keeps it and more often than not he finishes. He also had that mala leche (attitude/edge)”.I really hope he's actually better than he looks I do like the pitbull aspect of his personality. We almost desperately need someone that won't bend to others. In simpler words, we need a cunt. We got two with him and Cesc, although they're different kinds of cunts. But we needed someone with Costa's personality. Good thing he probably won't have a chance to face Suarez, otherwise he'd be bitten to bleed . But I see that you're waiting for the actual full confirmation of it (contract signed etc.). Understandable. I suspect however the main thing holding up official confirmation is the fact that there isn't a suitable number available for him atm (9 or 19). LondonPride1905 236
The only thing that bothers me. We always right, that we are waiting for a medical. Now its only that we agreed a fee, are we that confident.

The Chels 2,502
The only thing that bothers me. We always right, that we are waiting for a medical. Now its only that we agreed a fee, are we that confident. It was widely reported before the WC that he had already passed the medical. So as mentioned above I assume it is not official yet because of the issue with shirt number. Simeone spoke about Costa's move today so it is done.http://fan.football.sony.net/england/blog/2014/07/03/simeone-costa-will-succeed-hes-wants/
BlueLyon 9,359
Better the board holds official comfirmation because they are waiting Torres to fuck off. They usualy never put fee agreed on Chelsea page, but just contract agreed. This time they did this to show world Costa is Cfc player. Not official but everyone understands it. The reason this isnt official is because Costa would then be pictured in kit with number on it, but right now both 9 and 19 are used. It might take some time to get one of those free.
