C'mon the chels 0
Why Essien though? He isn't the only one at the club who will have won everything with Chelsea if we win the CL. Cech, Terry, Carvalho, Lampard ect...... What is it about Essien that would make him leave in the summer? I just can't see it at all As you will see in todays papers cech is asking for a pay rise, he will get it and stay at Chelsea but its different for keepers as there isn't as much choice due to it being a very specialised position. JT is Chelsea through and through if he isn't winning trophies for Chelsea then it won't be the same for him (even though he was a manure supporter when he was younger). The difference with Carvalho is his age he is content to stay where he is for the forseeable future. Lampard I believe is on his way I was absolutely certain before his mother died and not so sure just after but he will leave. Essien is ambitious to the point where that takes precedent over loyalty, he is still relatively young at 25 I think and has ambitions to play in Spain which will be accelerated if we lift the champions league this season. To say that no-one could afford him is pure nonsense, we've proved time and again that we cannot negotiate in the transfer market ie; SWP, Sheva, Paulo. The difference with Chelsea is we still aren't seen as one of the biggest clubs in the world so when Real Madrid, Barca, AC milan and the like come calling the player wants to leave so we have to all of a sudden be realistic with the transfer price as happened with Robben. If Essien was playing for Barca he would have a buy out clause of £100m because more often than not the player will not want to leave anyway and Chelsea would have to pay through the nose to prize him away. You seem to have put a lot of thought into it. Although i don't see where the comments about ambition and wanting to play in spain come from. I have never heard Essien mention about playing somewhere else let alone Spain. Also the fact that Essien is still only 25/26 is the main reason he will stay - we don't HAVE to sell him no matter how much someone offers for him. Robben was different, we knew he would be injury prone forever and made a very good deal out of that. With Maka, Ballack and Lampard all in their 30's Essien is arguably the main one we should hang onto an i believe we will..
Elliott 7
Seems to me c'mon the chels you've just surmised some theory up in your head about how players behave, how all players want to move to Spain after winning the Champions League, and it's just wrong. We can't completely rule out Essien wanting to move to Spain, but that by no means the club would let him, and anyway, he's made absolutely no statements or slips to any media outlet about that. I just don't see it. They'll probably make a rumour tomorrow after someone tips them off with this thread!
chrismada9 1,948
10. Essien - 3 years at Chelsea (I think). Awesome player but if we win the champions league will want a move to Spain. Seriously dude, are you kidding?? :ballack:

I never said anything about Essien wanting to move to Spain just because we won the Champions league (if we win it). The point is thats the last trophy for him to win with Chelsea. He will be very sought after this pre-season and whether we want to sell him or not will be irrelevant, if he wants to go we will have to cash in. And just because the player makes no 'slips' to the media means nothing....in fact how many interviews have you read, heard or seen with Essien compared to other players? He doesn't give too many. And what stupid thing to say, as if anyone in the media is going to say 'oh look some no body from talk Chelsea.net is saying he thinks Essien could leave pre-season. I think there's enough to run a story on it' What a load of bollocks. Edited May 13, 2008 by C'mon the chels
chrismada9 1,948
But why would Essien want to leave after winning the Champions League with Chelsea?? I don't get it Essien loves the club, that's why he decided to sign a five-year-contract last term.
EskWeston 696
I still can't see why he would want to go! He has always come across as being perfectly happy here! There is absolutely no reason to assume Essien will be anywhere other than right here next season.

He signed a five year deal because Chelsea offered him a fucking whopping pay rise! And why did Chelsea offer him a payrise? Because other European super clubs were sniffing around. warnie_666 1,081
Essien Aka Bison is a fucking priceless player. But I dont see him move away from Chelsea for the next 2-3 years. Ballack is 31, may be in next 2 seasons we could see Bison being our midfield mainstay. As for Lampard. I dont mind if he leaves now, as we have Bison and Ballack. But always RESPECT-----> LAMPARD!!! bombayblue™ 55
i could never not mind lampard not leaving.. a winger for me and if a striker(drogba) is leaving then an apt replacement.. villa though better than torres(imho) is a not a CF and can't play as good alone upfront.. and huntelaar doesn't create but you give him the ball and he scores... BlueLion. 21,491
Two wingers are uneccesary. Malouda will shine next season, trust me. Its typical of fans of the big clubs to want a player to leave after an average debut season. The French league is HUGELY different from the PL, it takes a season to adapt. He'll come through. I watched him for 3 years before he joined Chelsea, and he was arguably Europe's most consistent winger from 2006 to 2007.
warnie_666 1,081
hmm...could shine like Ballack did this season. You never know. So the wingers we have are: Jose Cole Malouda I would like to see Scott Sinclair and one more quality winger Strikers: Franco Di Santo Kalou Anelka Berbatov????:

There's just no indication that this might happen, that Essien might have the mindset you are thinking he has. Its complete speculation. There is a very small chance of it happening, but it is unlikely, and not something we should factor into any equation of players coming in and going out this summer. I read on another topic here that the Sun had run with that Lampard will leave because he walked to four corners of the pitch so I really wouldn't be surprised, unless of course Layla made that up, don't see why she would have though. EskWeston 696
Watching paper view on CTV last night and one of the journo's on there, not sure who it was though. Said that we will be signing Giovanni Dos Santos this summer, we was going to sign him in January but it didn't happen. This morning there are a few papers running with stories that we are going to sign Dos Santo but we will have to wait and see.... The same guy also said that he was told by Daniel Alves himself that he had agreed terms with us and it was down to the clubs to agree a fee, and he thought Alves would come. The arrival of Bosingwa means that it looks like a fee could not be agreed - unless the highly unlikely situation that we sign both.

You're boring me now. This is a forum where people discuss anything they like conected with Chelsea including news articles, interviews and pieces of information that people may have heard and believe there could be some legs in it. When someone makes a pre-season prediction on what might happen just because you don't agree with it you have to turn it into some big deal. And fucking hell 'it's not something we should factor into any equation of players coming in and going out this summer', get a life none of us have any bearing on what happens at Chelsea, I'm discussing the possibility of something happening based on pieces of information I have heard.....if you don't like it say 'I don't agree' and why. Not 'You're completely making it up' 'and it's wrong'. Fool.

Elliot, it is fine to disagree that is your choice, but you should do it in the correct way as in not make it personal buy accusing me of making things up. You could just say I disagree because I have heard nothing about this. And i would say as I did very early on in this debate 'I'll guess we will have to wait and see'. You can't attack someone personally because you don't agree and expect them not to say anything. So baisically I understand that you disagree but I can 't understand the basic summation that I am making it up simply because you have heard nothing about it, and then attacking me for it....its very immature. I wasn't attacking you, I'm sorry you got that impression. But, of course I think you are making it up, you've not provided any sort of evidence for your claims and I have myself never heard any talk of Essien wanting to leave, until you posted in this thread. Perhaps you could point me in the direction of such talk to back up your point? This isn't "personal", this is me not agreeing with you because I've heard nothing of the sort myself and you failed to provide any evidence for it either.
