Wow. Conte has completely changed him with this new formation. All that dwelling on the ball, overthinking and looking so sluggish is gone, he's now playing first time passes, one touch, quick thinking.

I also wanted him gone or relegated to bench (still debatable), but now he's changing my mind. Let's wait and see, things are looking promising. One thing that is a bit worrying is that we are lacking goals from midfield, Kante and Matic can't do that (on a fairly regular basis). So all scoring responsibility falls on the front three.

The more forward role, though frustrating seems to have helped him. His passing faster and spotting runs and space more intelligently.

I'll say it again, Matic lacks versatility but in certain roles he can be a key player for any team.

The formation is helping the one footed Matic, simply because he has more options in front of, and around him, and is not getting caught on the ball. His pass for Hazard's goal on Sunday afternoon, a prime example, he didn't need to think about what he was going to do with the ball, just a simple first time ball to Hazard. Simple but effective.

The bigger issue was that the midfield was being blamed for defensive frailties -Brana and Dave playing out of kilter. Conte has resolved this with the new formation. Still buzzing after beating the Mancs

I think a lot has to do with confidence. Conte has made him believe in his abilities again after Jose destroyed all his confidence last season like when he came on as sub and then got subbed off. Same as Hazard who was a shadow of himself last season but Conte has given both these guys their man balls back.

Fair play, Nemanja, fair play. 

Wanted him gone with the quickness in the summer, as I completely despised him as a footballer. Was hoping him along with Oscar would leave Chelsea by any means necessary.  

But he's reverted back to 2014 Matic. As the ultimate wildcard in CM doing the little things very well: recycling posession, picking out the right killer passes (5 assists on the season now?!?!), making just enough passes with opposite foot to keep things fluid, and timing his tackles very well. 

Long may it continue Matic.

Great man, just like Hazard I knew they needed another season before discarding. 

That being said if you still give me the choice of getting Radja and get rid of him I still will do it. 

But let's see what Conte wants in the next transfer window after having more time with the whole squad. Because is after half a season to a full one that you have an idea of who is who.

I said when we resigned him his attack is underrated and he shown signs of that first months but then we signed Cesc so we nullifed that side of the Serb to accomodate Fabregas. This season we are starting to see the Benfica player.

The team was a headless chicken last year. The clown had 70% support here and players were getting the insults. This year spots the light on the actual headless chickens.
