The Skipper 20,609
Yup, Matic is under pressure to perform this season and he's been decent. Hope he keeps these sort of performances up, he can play even better. Looks like he's getting his confidence back which is good. Weird how he's got the most assists in the team, seems like we're not missing Cesc much at all.
kellzfresh 7,229
Wow. Conte has completely changed him with this new formation. All that dwelling on the ball, overthinking and looking so sluggish is gone, he's now playing first time passes, one touch, quick thinking. I officially declare that the spider beast is back. manpe 10,861
I also wanted him gone or relegated to bench (still debatable), but now he's changing my mind. Let's wait and see, things are looking promising. One thing that is a bit worrying is that we are lacking goals from midfield, Kante and Matic can't do that (on a fairly regular basis). So all scoring responsibility falls on the front three. Tomo, Despiadado.Maleante and Blue-in-me-Veins
Despiadado.Maleante 1,046
The more forward role, though frustrating seems to have helped him. His passing faster and spotting runs and space more intelligently.
CHOULO19 24,332
Keeps getting better in this new formation. Which kind of proves what many of us were saying that his horrific performances in 4-1-4-1 had a lot to do with the role he was given than personal form. I'll say it again, Matic lacks versatility but in certain roles he can be a key player for any team. kellzfresh

His pass for Hazard's goal on Sunday afternoon, a prime example, he didn't need to think about what he was going to do with the ball, just a simple first time ball to Hazard. Simple but effective. The bigger issue was that the midfield was being blamed for defensive frailties -Brana and Dave playing out of kilter. Conte has resolved this with the new formation. Popular Post! Parky 739 Posted October 30, 2016 Popular Post! Share Posted October 30, 2016 I think a lot has to do with confidence. Conte has made him believe in his abilities again after Jose destroyed all his confidence last season like when he came on as sub and then got subbed off. Same as Hazard who was a shadow of himself last season but Conte has given both these guys their man balls back.       the wes, King11Didier, Chelseabluerising and 6 others

Supermonkey92 1,428
I gave up on him. You have surpassed 2014. That 'spoon' as Mourinho called it is zipping the ball about like ive never seen him do before. First time passes are normal for him now. Take a bow Matic. Edited November 5, 2016 by Supermonkey92 Missed words manpe, kellzfresh and The Skipper
manpe 10,861
Playing against Matic in this form and Kante who only ever has known one form with 3 other monsters waiting behind them must be a nightmare to play against. 11Drogba, Blue-in-me-Veins and Cosmin
Popular Post! Blue-in-me-Veins 4,067 Posted November 5, 2016 Popular Post! Share Posted November 5, 2016 Fair play, Nemanja, fair play. Wanted him gone with the quickness in the summer, as I completely despised him as a footballer. Was hoping him along with Oscar would leave Chelsea by any means necessary.  But he's reverted back to 2014 Matic. As the ultimate wildcard in CM doing the little things very well: recycling posession, picking out the right killer passes (5 assists on the season now?!?!), making just enough passes with opposite foot to keep things fluid, and timing his tackles very well. Long may it continue Matic.  bababoom, Hybrid Angel, The Skipper and 2 others
Fernando 6,585
Great man, just like Hazard I knew they needed another season before discarding. That being said if you still give me the choice of getting Radja and get rid of him I still will do it. But let's see what Conte wants in the next transfer window after having more time with the whole squad. Because is after half a season to a full one that you have an idea of who is who.
Tomo 21,751
I said when we resigned him his attack is underrated and he shown signs of that first months but then we signed Cesc so we nullifed that side of the Serb to accomodate Fabregas. This season we are starting to see the Benfica player. Fernando

Our manager, who people worshipped and adored for obvious reasons, kept throwing his players under the bus. We see the same happening at United now and their fans falling for it the same way we did, and they don't even worship the man like we do/did. We were misguided by an egocentric manipulator and can now see what really was happening. However, last season, calling him an headless chicken was justified based on the performances and human psychology. He wasn't the only one being called names so the "the whole team were shit last year" point is moot to this discussion as everybody got their fair share of stick in their respective threads. And it still doesn't change the fact that Mourinho or no Mourinho, they still played like crap. Hindsight is a great way to be all smart.
