Marco van Ginkel

Along with good performances at a young age for Vitesse, and he played really well for Chelsea when he wasn't injured.

Good and solid performances indeed but never outstanding. His move to Chelsea came as a complete surprises as he never stood out in the Eredivisie, a low level league, and only enjoyed one good full season. Never considered an exceptional talent like Ajax rookie Bazoer currently either.

Look at Bony. He killed the Eredivisie and he joined Swansea, now 2nd choice at City. Graziano Pellé, the late bloomer, is another played who dominated in his position, now a Southampton player. Suarez, probably the best Eredivisie player of the past 10 years, moved to Liverpool. Eriksen and Vertonghen (and now Alderweireld) at Spurs. They had to perform for years to earn those moves.

Van Ginkel never stood a chance tbh. And his performances for Chelsea were okay. He wasn't particularly poor but he didn't contribute much either. I really don't get what those that rated him so highly saw.

He would be smart to return to the Eredivisie for the sake of his career. They'll actually care about him there. A few good years there, a few call-ups for the Dutch NT and he could make a transfer abroad again. What's happening to him now is just sad.

Thing is, he was performing "above his age" like RLC is doing now, and look how we rate him today ;)

I think he would have been fine if not for the injuries, maybe not a starter but good enough to be getting serious minutes in the less stressful games. He was indeed getting minutes right before that injury and I'd dare so the coaching at Chelsea would have been more beneficial than wherever he has been at loan.

Another missed opportunity but it happens.

Hope he does well at PSV and earns a permanent transfer in the summer.

Think it would be best for both parties to sell him and move on,lets get the loan army down to a max of 22.Hopefully Chelsea bring in a world class cm in the summer...again!

We can hope. Too many players on the books that aren't going to make it here. Cash in and move on

Agreed re Marko, however I'm more supportive of the loan army policy than many seem to be. Twenty-two looks a reasonable enough number to set as a maximum size for the army but I'd prefer to control its numbers in a different way if possible. I'd like us to be completely honest with ourselves, as well as with the young man himself, as soon as a player's Chelsea chances are gone. Once that decision is made a move should be found for him as soon as possible. If a quicker turnover is achieved it will improve the chance that we'll get enough people into the system to find more successes.

I say we should do this if possible because wages and contracts will impact when and if a new permanent club can be found of course. It would be nice to think we could make this easier by gradually reducing the value of the contracts we offer to loan army recruits in the first place. This may not be realistic however.

Yeah agree, i would slip in a buyback clause if in doubt with some players ,but in essence i'd like to see the loan army cut, make some money on the 1's that are not going to make it and evolve the system so we actually get more Chelsea players! This summer looks good as anytime to start imho.

I never know why Chelsea bought him when they had perfectly good Chalobah after his best loan spell at Watford.

Blocking path of their own young player with slightly more established youngster, why do this ? And Marco Van Ginkel never was a super talent to explain this.

But Chelsea like to do this. Similar with Kenedy when they have Boga, Musonda and Traore and now with Miazga when they have Christansen.

5 goals in 11games for Psv,wants to stay there, think we should grant his wish, hopefully get close to what we paid for him and move on,clear alot of loaness out that are not going to be starters and give the next level of youth the chance to impress.
