Also, I think what Terry has said is disappointing. Are we adopting a small club mentality and thinking a top four finish is the equivalent of a trophy? We're the defending European champions, and to go out of this tournament on a whim after the way we were unceremoniously dumped out of the UCL, albeit on a technicality, would be even more embarrassing for this club. Think about it - we've fucked up in the League Cup, the league has been out of reach since early November and we've blown three relatively decent chances of silverware in the Community Shield, the UEFA Supercup and then the Club World Cup. We can't afford to put all of our eggs in the Premier League-or-nothing basket. This competition, along with the FA Cup - they are the only chances of silverware we have this season. If we go out there and don't put any effort in, it will be an absolute disrespect towards the supporters and another layer of disappointment on this catastrophe of a season.

The quotes were taken out of context as always. In fact the same quotes were used in another article title something like: "Chelsea won't slack off in the EL if Terry has something to say about it"

Totally forgot Ba can't play, but he's travelled with the squad according to the pictures. But take him out and that means 17, so two more mystery members. Has Marin travelled despite playing for the U21s?

Yes. He tweeted that he just arrived in Prague.

Judging from the pictures from the coaches and plane, the following have travelled:

  • Goalkeepers - Cech, Turnbull
  • Defenders - Terry, Ake, Ferreira, Bertrand, Cahill, Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Cole
  • Midfielders - Oscar, Hazard, Mata, Lampard, Ramires, Benayoun
  • Forwards - Ba, Torres

That's 18. Probably also Hilario has travelled as a back-up keeper.

Marin is 19 he took a pic and posted it to twitter

Story here, there & everywhere.

The recent one I read by B. Zenden:

He stressed that Chelsea must be prepared for an energetic performance by the RUSSIANS. Duh ?

Either some UK expert wrote it wrong or Zenden does not even know whom Chelsea are playing against.

Man United came to Prague to play Sparta a couple of years ago and it ended 0-0. Liverpool came to Prague to play Sparta two years ago and it ended 0-0. Sparta is not capable of doing anything special and the other team simply know they will have no problems at home. I believe this will be another 0-0 game.

True but then, Arsenal won there 2-0 on both occasions in 2005 and 2007.

Completely forgot about that team! But, Arsenal also went to Prague to play Slavia and it ended 0-0

Worth remembering that the last time we played a team in FC Copenhagen just after their long winter break, we comfortably won 2-0 in Denmark in the CL. Sparta Prague could be feeling rusty or perhaps not too rusty. We shall see but if we do our job properly, then we should win this.

In winter, they bought the best goal scorer in the league in the last two or three years but that's probably the only thing worth saying, also they didn't have time and opportunities to try the new formation with him. The break will play a big role surely.
