Fernando Torres

If we are to keep him, do you guys think practicing alongside Costa and watching Costa do what a striker is supposed to do, can somehow give him back his confidence or make him relearn some of his old killer instinct?

It's more likely to wreck him mentally even further. Seeing what a striker should at least remotely look like and knowing he won't ever reach that level? Blondie is probably gonna cry on his bed every night. I won't even start to talk about Drogba. He's probably still got nightmares about him.

Whenever Mou says something certain like xx player will stay, we wont buy anymore, etc. it happens exactly opposite. I look forward to next month to see Mou was troling again. I realy hope he wont go with Costa, Torres and Drogba in title chasing season. If Costa gets injured, byebye title...

Can see him staying and having his best scoring season for us. The additions of Fabregas and Costa will aid him, as will us hopefully being a better team. He seems to just get his head down and play and I can see him getting late goals in games where he comes on in winning situations for Costa.

At this point you have to ask who is realistically out there we could get?

What have you been smoking?

Personally, I dont care who we "realistically" can get. ANYONE, read ANYONE, would be better than Torres.

I don't know if I agree with that. We need a healthy squad that's for sure but we lost out on the title by 4pts last year, not 15. We should be better even with costa for part a season, we have Cesc, matic for a full year, an improving Hazard and schurrle, not to mention the best defense in the prem.

We will be better just through maturation and if costa plays 20 games that's 20 more than we had last year.

We operate in a world based on 'realism' though. Costa is the number one striker and he will have a lot of pressure on him, but I think he's mentally tough so it's not a huge problem for me. Drogba is the guy we bring on when chasing games and again, I think as a guy in the six yard box he's still a very capable operator and again he's mentally tough enough to deal with that.

Torres sits in a rather nice spot of having zero expectations on him and little pressure. He'll be the guy we bring on when games are close to being won and he'll start games where we feel we don't need Costa's presence.

I call this the 'Kalou role'.

That's why I think he'll get into double digits for Premier League goals this season and 8-12 goals elsewhere. Maybe I'm being hopelessly optimistic but I think there's enough negativity and vitriol elsewhere in this thread that you need that.

What is interesting is that hybrid 4231/4312 formation we deployed against Vitesse where he and Costa interchanged as striker and left-winger with three central midfielders and one right-winger behind them. It's an aggressive formation and one that might be productive for him (Schurrle can also fit into that role).

Can't deny that while I do want him gone, there's a tiny part that still hopes for this to happen.

Sounds like Wolfsburg are sniffing about Torres......Absolute joy if this happen then it really is game on for a new striker.

The negotiation for Torres is complicated, and at early stages. Wolfsburg is concretely trying to bring Torres to Bundesliga (via @DiMarzio)

You are. It's Torres we're talking about.
