Bit tricky for Lukaku as hes not in the squad -have to be Ferdinand the Wonderhorse -

Lukaku wasn't in the squad for the group stages. He'll probably be added into the squad for the knockout rounds now that Anelka is gone.

Right. I am going to contradict myself now and say Torres is the better option -experience, and as Idiot said, he could ...er...score.

:carlo: That's not entirely true. I can think of a hand full of chelsea players that have gone much longer than that without scoring: Mikel, Ashley, Romeu, Bos.....

That's true, although it's said in this article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/feb/04/fernando-torres-chelsea

Not sure what the author meant by that, you can always count on the likes of Mikel and Ferreira to have worse records :D Although comparing him to our defensive mids, full-backs and even goalkeeper tells the whole story.

I forgot Romelu is not in our CL squad. But if I remember correctly, each team is allowed to make one change to it's squad at the start of the knock out stages, am I right?

Just checked and each team can make 3 changes.

Subsequent registration

18.18 For all matches from the start of the round of 32, a club may register a maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current competition. Such registration must be completed by 1 February 2012 (24.00 CET) at the latest. This deadline cannot be extended.

Reading the last two pages I'm asking myself whether the majority of you watch our games or just highlights, quite a forward assumption I'll admit but our problems are:

1) Our midfield/Service

2) Confidence

If you want me to explain the above in more details then let me know, and before I get a reply about the chances like the 3-2 United one where he should have hit it but tried to pull it back I think its pretty simple to chalk that and the ilk of those chances to confidence.

bingo, 2 things that he's missing... but when he does get proper service, his confidence comes into play and manages to screw up. It's a downward spiral that is hard to break. His confidence at the beginning of the season was better, you just need to watch the goals against manu and swansea, the Torres of 2012 would have taken n+2 touches before attempting a shot (n being the optimal time to shoot).

I partly agree.

However I have this conversation with a lot of people, I agree with the part of 'When he does get a chance his confidence comes into play' but realistically how few and far between are those chances? Watch the games, watch his runs, watch his movement.

Put yourself in the same position, if your getting no service or you know the (certain?) players cannot play a particular pass, i.e. a nice subtle through ball or a weighted ball over the top then are you really going to keep making those darting sprinting runs? Or are you going to believe in your own ability (to take players on and such, what other choice is there?) and come deep/out wide to receive the ball in order to make something happen? I.e. Cross for Mata's goal.

They are few but ones that he should be taking much better. How often does he attempt ridiculous dribbles at 3-4 defenders? Those kind of things puzzle me.
